"Ah yes, let's provide every bit of system information even when it's not necessary and when the service that uses it was long dead."

it's unfortunate that privacy is not the default when it comes to tech but i suppose they have spent unimaginable amounts of money to shape it that way.

i think the reason the Brave browser still has it on by default is that due to how things were done in chrome and chromium legacy bits... components of the hangouts extension HAVE to be used if you have a webapp running on Brave requiring a sharescreen function

This is the last straw, I’m fully switching to Firefox and deleting chrome Edit: ok I am definitely over exaggerating, I don’t think it’s the last straw I’ve been using ff for a while now, the reason is I just don’t want to use chromium browsers, safari isn’t available on windows and tor is just too slow. Technically, Hangouts became Google Chat. Meet is a little different. With Chat, all of my conversations from Hangouts from the past decade are still there; and my gamer friends and I still use it as we don’t need video as an option.

My version of Google Chrome has option to turn off Google Hangouts and even remove the extension.

That extension is allegedly used for screen sharing and can be disabled in the Brave options. I have disabled it and I can still share my screen

If course it is. Anything by Google is harvesting as much information as they possibly can. This is why I don't use Google (or Microsoft or Apple or Facebook, et al) products. All of my PCs run Linux based operating systems (mostly Gentoo) and all of my phones run AOSP based operating systems. With exception to the occasional video game (I don't play many or often), every program that I use on those systems/devices is open source. As far as Google services, it's just RU-vid. My account here dates back to long before Google was outwardly evil, and I have been actively moving away to other video platforms and standalone web sites. I'm at a point where most of the stuff I watch is on other sites, along with videos from a couple of luddites still using RU-vid-only.
