One note: only our melee attacks have a 1.5 second global cooldown. All spell GCDs are lowered by haste. So 7.5 does not directly match a typical rotation of GCDs
I just recently started playing wow again after several years break… I started in vanilla and stopped in legion… I was blood dk main back in retail during this time and without haste I felt like I was constantly waiting to hit anything… i intermixed some haste pieces and gemmed mastery/Stam and not only is it closer to retail now but my damage is insane, my healing is on par with our healers and allows them to focus on the raid vs only when I need it myself… but I will say back in retail if I recall … I never had much Dodge/parry and stacked all mastery>haste at 2:1 or 3:1 and NEVER died
Hey , when you mention you were at 88% Mastery , where do you get that % from? When I check my Mastery on my BDK, its shown as 23.31 (2744 [+15.31%]), not sure how you see yours to get the 88% figure?
@@Riyaniwow thanks for the reply. I figured it out later on in your vid, you have to times 6.5% by your mastery (mine was 23.31) to get the blood shield value (151% blood shield for me). I've since dropped it down a bit to go for a bit more haste. Sitting at 7.81s rune regeneration and hit and exp cap. Let's see how that does in tonights heroic 10 man!
I run with 2400+ haste and 2 dps trinkets and never have any issues. Rarely ill put on a tank trinket if we are doing a specific fight that requires a bit tankier setup (such as tanking adds on nef, where damage doesnt matter)
The best voice, the best mindset, and the smartest DK tank player... Yeah, you were for suuuure not born to be the best tank streamer in EU. Banger video, fam. Glad it is long
My guild is 3/13 heroic. I’ve been running haste and I find myself dying, probably because I’m bad. I switched over to mastery stam after last weeks raid and I’m excited to see how I do this week. I think it can cover up some of my newb mistakes and allow me to learn the fights better before going back to haste after some more progression. I’m very bummed out about having to do this.
The starting point should always be stamina and mastery, while valuing haste behind those stats. You can pick up haste along side mastery, but you’d only swap mastery for haste once you’re no longer benefitting from the added mastery. Hop into my stream one day and we can look at some things to improve on if you have some logged fights ☺️
I MT in a 10m guild that's recently gotten 13/13 heroic, have been 'soft capped' on haste (lol) since like week 2 I'm consistently 3rd/4th on total damage for a raid night, and I have never once died for any reason other than me playing bad. You cannot underestimate the impact of having another half of a dps for free to the raid (long as you're not falling over ofc).
Good ol’ soft cap! Yeah bdk sure does pump, and especially in a 10 man setting where you’re proportionally responsibility for more of the damage and the incoming damage is not as high.
Ive played both builds a fair bit, i was never dying with mastery stam build, swapping to haste i didnt much feel of a difference defensive wise. The only difference was i was actually doing more dps. Seems kind of simple though i dont see why theres such a debate on this topic. if your dying a lot go mastery stam. If its no longer an issue go haste and do more damage.
That 7.5 seconds example rotation... I am a bit confused. Why only one death strike until 7.5 point? And why do you blood boil instead of heart strike every 7.5 seconds? I was expecting something like: 0.00 DS 1.30 HS 3.00 RS (Don't we have 1UH 1Frost runes still, so I thought we could DS once more at this point) 4.30 DS 6.00 HS 7.30 DS I am missing something I think.
Hi, you may not reply to this but maybe someone else will. I am wondering why we need to keep RP at or above 100 before using rune strike? Saw it on your complete dk guide. Thanks
It’s because we have glyph of death strike which gives us 40% extra DS damage whenever we’re at or over 100 RP, so we want to stay around as high a level as possible.
I main tank in a 10 man HC guild Blood dk 368 ilvl i have 7.5 rune speed and around 2k mastery and feel super tanky, our holy pala keeps me topped up easy with just beacon, im not focusing on parsing with 2x dps trinkets and stuff, i was full mastery / tank gear with Dodge / parry earlier into the phase and the scaling on dodge / parry as blood sucks, if that 1400 haste goes into dodge / parry its like 2% not worth
I'm the main tank in 10 man raid group. We're pretty dad guild - only a handful of heroics down so far. You and Subtle convinced me to follow the way of the Undead Haste Warrior.. Trying to parse is another way of making the game more interesting (like speed runs, or achievements). In a 10 man raid, my damage matters even more than in 25, and the more damage I do the quicker and easier it can make fights. It feels like gearing haste hasn't compromised my survivability to the point where it's hurting the raid. Whether we run two or three healers on a given encounter never has anything to do with how much damage I'm taking. It's all about how much raid damage there is, and whether there are any dps checks we have to hit. If your raid group is full of highly aware players who are good at minimizing avoidable damage, then you can run less healers. If not you run more. Clarifying something for my own information: The 7.5 second rune recharge breakpoint is significant because it lines up with 5 GCDs. Above that amount, the rune recharge benefit is minimal unless you could get enough haste for 6 second rune recharge where it would line up with 4 GCDs. I assume 6 second rune recharge (ignoring temporary buffs like Bloodlust) is impossible in Tier 11 gear. Do you think it would be possible at any point in Cata Classic to get that much haste? I could potentially see a scenario where it's technically possible, but requires such an extreme amount of haste that you might be compromising survivability.
If my math is correct, you'd need something like 5100 haste rating to get to 40% haste to get to a 6 second rune recharge. That might be a stretch even in tier 13.
As a BDK you're prob fine running spirit in heroic dungeons, but yeah it's pretty good since you're responsible for more of the damage + more minimum DS heals, which is where haste performs the best as a defensive stat.
Parry and dodge is like lowest on priority list regardless of what state you're in. So you'd always prio haste over dodge & parry, even when super undergeared.
But if you were progression in early heroic raiding and had normal gear would you drop the mastery for haste, more of a balance between the two, stack just mastery?
I wouldn't drop mastery for haste until I had some data on how I perform in the raid through logs. But mastery and haste aren't mutually exclusive, they work well together and would aim to pick up haste in slots where stam, mast, hit cap, and soft expertise cap is already taken care of. If you notice you're way too tanky, make some swaps to help with output.
Quick tip, don t take 10 seconds each word you are sayng.. thats why the video is 45 mins and not 20 mins.. love the content anyway, keep up the great work!
Bro it’s hard to watch your video with how inefficient you speak and the length of time. People are busy and have things to do. Please Optimize for your audience. Have notes ready to go on the main points you want to emphasize so as not to recall them in real time. Again, really hard to watch this video but genuinely interested in what you have to say
pretty sure its a clipped portion from a longer stream in which he wants to fill the time up. If you're interested in what he has to say just have it on the background while u game or something.
Bro he making a video about stuff no one else is. Be grateful, we k my got like 2 good bdk content creators for cata. I personally love these in-depth dives and thoughtful discussions
Imagine that he is doing this in stream with no script and also doing it in a second language. It seems at times he is translating himself in his head before speaking.
Appreciate the comments here boys, but I agree that I am talking way too slow and is something I have to work on. But yeah this was from the stream where I, for obvious reasons, don't use a script. I try to be deliberate and precise when I speak as a habit, but it also has the consequence of sometimes taking a bit too long between sentences as I gather my thoughts. I appreciate your feedback as well, especially as I tried something I've never done before (uploading an unedited stream highlight like this).
