Jeff is Canadian. He was blind. Lost his sight to cancer as a child and died of cancer in his 40s. He is considered one of the greatest on guitar and he had a great voice too. His biography is certainly worth a read. A very special person.
Like a lot of people commenting or liking comments you obviously skip over the bits where she speaks. You're just repeating exactly what she said at 3:36. You really should listen to her, she's smart and funny.
Yes but... My favorite "Look at Littel Sister" is the one where SRV breaks a string and makes THE most effortless guitar switch. As someone said: SRV: 5 out of 5 Guitar strings 5 out of 6 Guitar techie: 10 out of 5
The first time I saw the Jeff Healey band was in the movie, "Road House". Yes, Jeff is blind and very unique in how he plays his guitar on his lap. Great band.
Jeff Healey may have been blind, and he died young, but he lived a full life and left us with a lot of great music. In addition to rock and blues music, he also loved big band and swing music. In addition to the guitar, he also played the trumpet, trombone, clarinet, and saxophone. He also made 3 big band/swing albums before he died. He was also famous for his record collection which included more than 10,000 78 RPM records. He is very missed.
One of my favorite things in Roadhouse is when he's playing behind the wire a bottle comes towards the wire and before it hits it Jeff again who's blind ducks early... blind man spidey sense.
His drummer gave an interview and talked about how Jeff did what he wanted. You never told Jeff that he couldn't do something. He talked about while they were on tour, he woke up a little after midnight and heard Jeff talking. He walked to the front of the bus. Jeff was driving the tour bus. The bus driver was sitting right behind him, coaching him. "A little right, left, straighten it up. Just a little faster. Good." Jeff was having the time of his life.
I remember reading about that story in a book about Jeff. I just imagined that great smile on Jeff's face while driving down the road. What an image. Awesomeness!!
Jeff was a highly talented artist, playing, singing, performing. One of the best. I got to work lighting for a show with him at a local casino here and he was great to work with. He gave me a set of new guitar strings from his sponsor, DR strings, and signed a cd for me. A real great guy. So sad he left us too soon.
More Sammy Davis please....have you seen him tap dance or do his impressions? There is a clip on youtube that shows him playing many musical instruments!
I saw Healey live in Winnipeg, and the whole band was great. During really intense guitar solos, Healey would get up and start walking around the stage with his bass player occasionally bumping him to give him course corrections so he wouldn't fall off the stage! It was awesome.
His biggest radio hit here in Canada was "Angel Eyes", another ironic song for a blind man. By reputation he had a great sense of humour to go with his musical talent. He also hosted a radio show about the blues that featured tracks from his personal collection of 78s. In this video he's only 22 and got better along the way.
In an age where everyone has to blast their handicap, anxiety, or mental disorder in your face in the name of "awareness". it is so refreshing for a human not to use their handicap to garner 'likes' and credibility. That is truly a hero. He wants you to judge him on his music, not the handicap. There is something just so refreshing about that.
Another GREAT Canadian musician from Toronto. Someone putt a guitar in his lap when he was 2. Someone tried to teach him to play the "normal" way. But it never felt right to him. He had his own band and was playing bars in Toronto when he was 15. His band was the "house band" in the Original "Road House" movie with Patrick Swayze. He toured a lot with the great SRV. Cancer took his life 2 weeks before his 42 birthday and 4 weeks before the release of his 1st studio album in 11yrs.
as someone born and raised in Toronto... the hometown of the legend Jeff Healey... we are ALL blown away.......his talent and ability.. and he was the most under rated under appreciated musician of his time .. this performance with these other megamusicians will stand the test of time of many millenia
Jeff Healey yes he is blind. I believe he died some years ago. Did you ever see the movie roadhouse with Patrick Swayze? Jeff Healey was the house band in that club He was fantastic sure was very soulful And very talented
Jeff Healey was diagnosed with retinoblastoma before his first birthday which cost him his eyes. He loved music and decided to play the guitar. Since he was self taught no one told him how a guitar was held and he just started learning holding it the it felt most natural. I am always thankful no one showed him how to hold it. It might have ruined one of the best blues guitarists styles. He is still an inspiration in my playing. For another look at Jeff's talent, watch the movie "Road House" (1989) with Patrick Swayze & Sam Elliott. Jeff plays a supporting roll as the front man playing in a club called The Double Deuce. It's one of the top favorite movies with Patrick Swayze. You might also want to check out "Angel Eyes" from The Jeff Healey Band's album "See the Light". You will love it.
He had eye cancer as a baby and been blind since about one year old. I watched him play, about 5 feet away watching his fingers on the guitar was unbelievable. One of his last videos was “I Tried” Beautiful song. Rest gently Jeff 🇨🇦❤️
I wrote that before I saw you look it up. If you have time, look into his catalogue. As a Canadian myself, we were so proud of his amazing talent that never got global recognition to the degree he deserved. I love seeing him getting noticed. ❤️
I've been to a few concerts in my day but out of all of them, easily the best one was when I saw Jeff Healy and ZZ Top together back in 1984. It was unbelievable!
R.I.P. Jeff. Roadhouse was my mom's second favorite movie, after National Lampoons Christmas Vacation. And Patrick Swayze was my mom's #2 crush, after Rod Stewart.
The piano man is Mac Rebennack, aka Doctor John, a major talent on his own.. Jeff H could bend a note until the whole audience was stank-facing. Another lesser known hot blues guitarist is Eric Gales - "Insane" is a good hardcore cut by him
I'm from Vancouver and I always do that search every few months on reacts for Jeff just to see how the generations future react. I used to sit on the edge of the Yale bar in downtown Van. many years ago and see this young blind kid play and his name was Jeff Healey. Of course at the time we knew he was special but to play with the likes of Stevie Ray Vaughan and B.B King. My only regret if I'm allowed is I wish Jeff and The Tragically Hip could have done a colab as now both are gone from this world. The Yale Pub is still there but it's been resold and renovated gentrifications where it's not the same anymore. I still take the bus past The Yale and wonder if ghosts of past performers still haunt that bar still.
Jeff Healey is a Legend!! One of the best guitar players on the planet, in my opinion, and an incredible musician. Jeff was a huge lover of Jazz!! Check out Jeff Healey and The Jazz Wizards "I WOULD DO ANYTHING FOR YOU" and "SWEET GEORGIA BROWN". RIP Jeff.
Jeff's cover of Albert King's "As the Years Go Passing By". from the 1995 Stuttgart Jazz Festival is amazing. Amazing blues performance. If 'See The LIght' is all about excitement, As The Years Go PA
Jeff Healey was an amazing guitar player. In the original Road House movie. There's a great video of him playing with Stevie Ray Vaughan. Yes, he was blind. He passed in 2008.
We have some cool blues artists in Canada, including Healey, Colin James, Blackie And The Rodeo Kings, Big Sugar, and David Wilcox. Healey did everything from blues, to pop/rock. Angel Eyes was his biggest hit, but had many other great songs, including I Think I Love You Too Much, Cruel Little Number, Macon Georgia Blue, and I Tried, which based on this reaction, I think you would get a kick out of the video, despite the sadness of the song.
That is one awesomely heavy duty band. Four incredibly incomparable musicians Jeff Healey - guitar, Dr.John - piano, Marcus Miller - Bass, and Omar Hakim= Drums.
Yes, 1988 was a good year. That was the year my wife and I were married. We were together for 30 years until she passed away from cancer in 2018. Our children and I miss her dearly 💔
When he was almost one year old, Healey lost his sight due to retinoblastoma, a rare cancer of the eyes.[2] His eyes had to be surgically removed, and he was given ocular prostheses. On January 11, 2007, Healey underwent surgery to remove metastatic cancer tissue from both lungs. In the previous 18 months, he had two sarcomas removed from his legs.[21] On March 2, 2008, Healey died of sarcoma in his home town of Toronto at the age of 41
Yes, Jeff Healey is blind & he was in the movie "Road House"...I love your reactions to songs & I bet all your patrons / followers would love to see you react to the 1956 - Ruth Wallis - "Pop-up Song"... Thanks & Your welcome for this...
Yes, he IS blind... Cancer of the eye, since early childhood... He can also be seen as the leader of the house band in the movie "Roadhouse" with Patrick Swayze and Sam Elliot... He had several relapses with cancer, which eventually was the cause of his passing... BTW.. The word is Jugular...
If u like that guitar playing from him listen to when the night comes falling from the sky or as the years go passing by live. Absolutely amazingly talented man.
Great choice of a song to do. Yeah, Healey was amazing. I saw him open up for Bonnie Raitt years back and most the people there didn't even know him, heck, they didn't really know much of Bonnie's music because she'd just had a hit on MTV and they weren't even aware of her being around for years, but it was great. The audience response to his playing, standing up while soloing (without a guitar strap!) was way quieter than should have been, so I yelled at the top of my lungs "Thanks Jeff!!!" and he had to have heard me. Great player and yes, don't let anyone tell you that you can't do what you want to do. Peace.
Patrick Swayze tells jeff Healey in Road House: "You Play Pretty Good for a Blind White Boy" YES, Yes he does... An Incredible Guitar Player!! RIP Some hits worth listening too: Well my Guitar Gently Weeps, Angel Eyes, Confidence Man, Roadhouse Blues, Hoochie Coochie Man to name a few... A very talented man!
