Pablo’s cofounder, Laurence, has been working on the business in the background and learning Spanish in the meantime. Let’s ask him about his experience with both!
At Dreaming Spanish, you will learn Spanish the way you learned your native language, namely, through immersion. Simply start watching content at a level that is comprehensible to you, and gradually work your way towards more and more advanced videos.
As researchers like Dr. Stephen Krashen have shown over the past 40+ years, receiving comprehensible input, that is, messages that you can understand in the target language, is what actually results in language acquisition.
By listening to our stories, cultural expositions, conversations and games, you will get used to real Spanish as it's used in context, and develop a native-like intuition for the grammar and the vocabulary, together with a clear pronunciation.
Experience the language. Become the language.

I guess if you choose to do Dreaming English next you would have to start from scratch and generate a whole new audience, but if you chose a language other than English you would be able to take many of the current subscribers - who are already die hard converts of your method - with you. there is an excellent channel it's called Comprehensible Mandarin and it has nearly 1k videos and uploads daily, there's nothing better than it BUT there's also a ton of other wonderful CI channels for Chinese, frankly there are more than for Spanish so I am surprised so many people are voting for Chinese.. I suppose no one here is actually learning Chinese.

Yes!! Anna’s channel is great but there is so little high quality content for German. I watched everything that was comprehensible for me and then got stuck. The OIF states that there has been a decline in the number of learners of French in Europe, as this language is beginning to lose its cultural prestige in the west. The large overall number of speakers is because of its presence in African countries: of the 350 million who use French daily, 73.9% are living in Africa.

🔥🔥🔥I usually skip podcast episodes that invite a student or non-native speaker since their accents are difficult for me to understand at this point in my learning, but Laurence sounds great and is easy on the ears! And super interesting point about how AI today learns with input vs how they learned in the 90s with grammar and rules. Loved this video, very insightful.

I would enjoy the most Dreaming Turkish. I really want to know that language and as I'll be starting later this year, if nothing CI-based appears, I'll have to do that with complete immersion which may not be the most pleasant experience, especially for first couple hundred of hours... Turkish language is not easily accessible for speakers of Indo-European languages and I'm pretty sure there is sufficient demand. Moreover, it's a pretty exotic language. Dreaming Danish/Swedish would be also nice as it would gave possibility to many people to enter the world of Scandinavian languages. They share a lot of common vocabulary with English and other Germanic languages so it could be also an important factor to consider by Dreaming Languages when taking decision. Other considerable languages could be: Korean, Japanese, Russian, Chinese and Arabic. Romance languages could also be nice but I think it's not a way to go for now as most of the current Dreaming Spanish consumers can have easy start in them so many of us could be a bit disappointed. German could also be a one of the next languages but I don't think it should be a priority for now.

Since it was mentioned in the video, I just want to mention that DS's "older content" is why I'm still watching. The "soul" of DS is, imo, the way Pablo started with the laminated pages of fruits and vegetables, the whiteboard drawings, and, of course, the butt cancer. The method works and I'm in favor of improved production values, but sometimes that can come at the expense of being too sterile. The presenters have identifiable personalities and bring their own takes and as long as the "better content" doesn't lead to DS being just a generic Spanish-speaking endeavor that sounds awesome. A good example was Andres' take on being a "real man" with the cuts of heavy guitar mixed in. I was listening to that as a podcast and walking down the street laughing like a crazy person. Honest entertainment and engagement hooked me, so I'm hoping that doesn't get lost in the quest for more polish.

In Dreaming Spanish’s system of Comprehensible Input, we should focus our attention primarily on videos in which we understand the vast majority of what we hear. In that way, we receive reinforcement of what we’ve learned and just a bit of new material at a time. Pablo has done a complete series on how this works and why it’s important to follow the roadmap. If I were trying to watch videos far above my level of comprehension, my brain would “zone out.” Instead of actually listening, the material would be nothing more than background noise. And that would be the opposite of comprehensible input

I'd be very interested in Dreaming German. A friend of mine is learning German. I introduced him to comprehensible input and found a few channels that do it in German. They've helped him a lot and he's now moving more into native content, but his biggest struggle starting out was that there aren't a lot of comprehendible input channels and not a lot of videos. I think the Dreaming Spanish treatment on German would be very welcome. Edit: also, while it obviously wouldn't be useful for a lot of your current users, Dreaming English seems like a huge market. I was curious about English comprehensible input channels but whenever I've gone looking for them there don't seem to be many.
