As a musician (bass player) for over 60 years, IMHO I think Gary Moore it the greatest guitar player that ever lived and I consider this to be the greatest guitar performance ever recorded. And I've heard many of the GREATS live - Jimi Hendrix, BB King, Jeff Beck, Ted Nugent and many more but none of them are his equal.

Gary Moore's guitar, Greeny, is a legend too. Greeny is a 1959 Gibson Les Paul Standard, named after its original owner, Peter Green. He used it during his time in John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers and Fleetwood Mac, before selling it to Gary Moore in the early 1970s. Moore used the guitar throughout his career, both as a solo artist and in bands, such as Thin Lizzy. Due to financial troubles, he was forced to sell it in 2006, after which it passed through several private collectors and guitar dealers. In 2014, Greeny was acquired by Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett apparently for around $2 million dollars and has since been used it both in the studio and during live Metallica performances.

Gary is playing Greeny in this clip - it's a Les paul he got from Peter Green of Fleetwood Mac. Kirk Hammett of Metallica recently bought it for a reputed $2,000,000.

My biggest influence as a (semi-pro) guitarist. For that glorious tone, and the amount of feeling he could inject into his solos, whether simple or complex. But I could not hope to get anywhere close to his amazing technique. A huge loss.

If you want to hear another incredible guitarist, you should react to "Joe Satriani". He is the most successful solo guitarist ever. A good song to start with is "Flying in a blue dream", the live in san Francisco version. He was the reason I started playing guitar 30 years ago.

You forgot to mention Ritchie Blackmore from Deep Purple amongst the greats, but kudos for discovering Gary Moore. Like any great, the live versions of any of his songs are always better. Check out 'Still Got the Blues' or a live video he did with BB King and Albert Collins. Gary started as a hard rock guitarist with Thin Lizzy before becoming a solo artist as a 'guitarist's guitarist', capped off by an amazing reign as 'King of the Blues' before sadly leaving us too early. Current Deep Purple keyboard maestro Don Airey performed with him in this video, and Deep Purple drum wizard Ian Paice used to play with him with nothing but praise.

I'm a big fan of Gary Moore's song Parisienne Walkways. There's a 14 yr old guitar prodigy Taj Farrant that says Gary Moore is his favorite guitar player. When he plays, he sounds like he's embodying Gary Moore and Stevie Ray Vaughn. He's released 2 songs, Crossroads and Cruz, that debuted #1 on the iTunes blues charts. You should check him out. His live performances are incredible.

Gary was so versatile rock ,Jazz and blues ..he played with BB King ( the frill is gone ) live and amazing and with many many more musicians ( Thin Lizzy) BEING THE MOST WELL KNOWN ,i loved Gary doing the Blues .he understood the Blues deeply .

As good as this is I think it had much more emotional impact when Roy played it. Wish I could have seen both Roy and Gary live.

I'd like to suggest you now react to another amazing guitarist whom Gary counted as a friend and looked up to-the legendary Rory Gallagher. There are so many great FB videos of Rory, but I'd say a place to start would be the very bluesy "Calling Card" played 1977 at the Hammersmith Odeon. Rory was a multi-instrumentalist who played many different types of blues, rock and a bit of anything else that caught his interest. Gary once said of Rory " We all knew how good he was. He had a real charisma and presence about him on stage". Please check out Rory!

You didnt. Because he is a forgotten guitarist. But those who grew up with him, like myself, they know. He was also a very talented composer and singer.
