Is High Mileage Oil Worth It? Learn the truth about high mileage engine oil In this video, I address the question: Does high mileage oil really work? As your trusted Honest Mechanic, I'll break down the facts and share my expert insights on whether high mileage oil is worth the investment for your vehicle.
I've seen firsthand how high mileage oil can make a difference in older engines. But is it always necessary? When should you start using high mileage oil? I'll address these questions and more, helping you make an informed decision for your vehicle's maintenance.
High mileage oil is specially formulated for vehicles with 75,000+ miles, but its benefits might surprise you. I'll explain the unique additives in high mileage oil and how they can potentially extend your engine's life. From reducing oil consumption to minimizing leaks, I'll cover the pros and cons of transitioning to a high mileage oil formula.
But does high mileage oil really work for every vehicle? I'll share my professional opinion on when high mileage oil is most effective and when it might not be necessary. Whether you're driving a well-maintained older vehicle or a car that's just hit the 75,000-mile mark, this video will help you determine if high mileage oil is the right choice for you.
As part of my comprehensive approach to vehicle maintenance, I'll also touch on the importance of other engine components. For instance, I'll explain the purpose of a vacuum pump in your engine. This crucial component creates negative pressure in the engine, which is essential for proper fuel economy, emissions control, and overall engine performance. Understanding how a vacuum pump works can help you appreciate the role of high-quality oil in maintaining your engine's health.
Throughout the video, I'll address common questions like: "When should I start using high mileage oil?" and "Does the premium price of high mileage oil justify its benefits?" I'll provide clear, actionable advice based on my years of experience working with all types of vehicles.
Remember, while high mileage oil can be beneficial, it's not a magic solution for all engine problems. I'll discuss the limitations of high mileage oil and explain why regular maintenance and timely repairs are still crucial for your vehicle's longevity.
Whether you're a car enthusiast or simply want to keep your high-mileage vehicle running smoothly, this video will equip you with the knowledge you need to make informed decisions about your engine oil. Don't miss out on these valuable insights that could save you money and extend the life of your vehicle.

My first ford galaxy had 60,000 miles. New gaskets and water and oil pump. Every 3,000 miles of highway and coastal hills, I could hear the valves. I used Portland Oregon- airolube sounding name 1974 memory. I used 30w winter to 40w summer. The oil was refinery fresh parafene base. At oil change the coast to coast brand filter was magic. No lifter noise for over 2,000 miles! Lol my how I miss the candle wax fumes from the valve cover vent. Oozing oil out of cork gaskets to singe on exhaust manifold! Hoho! My 2018 toyo taco 4 cyl will not go 100 miles per hour on 7% grade, but is so quite and smells like fresh tossted bugs! Lol 6 month/ 2,000 mile oil changes with purolator filter. Votex drain tube. Yogurt 1qt. Tub trimmed to taste around loosteded filter.unscrewed to catch all dribbles. Yes I still miss the parafene stench! Lol
