VIDEO INTRODUCTION:
2 weeks back I had gone to assist Nikhil Kamath with the research of his podcast on the Electric vehicle revolution, and because of that we ended up reading 500 pages of research and we found something absolutely fascinating!! The electric revolution is gathering pace with each passing day!! And while most people might think this is yet another business trend, what they dont realise that just like Oil determined the power of nations in the 20th Century, in the 21st century who ever controls the resources to build an electric vehicle and Solar panels will go on to control the world itself!! And just like Oil this is one such industry where both business and geopolitics come hand in hand, so while on one side, Tesla, ford and Volkswagen have been pouring in billions of dollars to crack the EV market, on the other side, China and United states are in a geopolitical war to dominate the most essential materials to build an electric vehicle s.
Similarly in India we are seeing giant companies like Ola electric, ather energy, TVS, TATAs and even Hero pushing their boundaries to capture the EV industry of India!! And lastly just like any other business revolution even the EV revolution has some wonderful opportunities to invest and build a business!!
So in this indepth episode of 30mins, we are going to take you into deep dive and give you a snap shot of the entire EV industry!! And this is the only 30 minute explainer that you would need to get a macro view of the Electric revolution!!
So lets dive into this case study and understand,
Why are US China and India so crazy about EVs?
Where does the power game of Electric vehicle lie??
How will EVs determine the next superpowers of the 21st century?
Where does India stand in this race?
And how are the legends like Ambani and TATAs catapolting India into the EV revolution? How is the economics of EVs changing with time?
And most importantly, as entreprenurs and students of business where do the golden opportunties in the electric revolution lie?

2 more cold start problems. A) Battery charging time (1-2 hrs even with fast chargers) vs Refueling time (10-20mins max) while covering longer distances. And I'm not even accounting for the fact that the solar panels and batteries required to produce and store that electricity are not made in india.

The real reason why most consumers would buy an EV is not because it is environment friendly, but because 1. It has better acceleration which you could dream only in sports cars 2. It is less noisy and has less vibration. You would never want to step into a diesel car again. 3. Cost of maintenance and operation is low Only thing to change is a little more reduction in purchase cost and availability of many more options. That's happening sooner than anyone expected.

For problem #3, aggregators like plugshare can be made more mainstream and integrated into vehicle themselves. People obsess over EV range but anything in the ballpark of 300 is more than enough for most city uses for a week or a short run of 150 kms on inter city highway. What is more surprising is that evs are getting common in smaller indian cities with lesser infra like in UP, Bihar as home charging it in few days are sufficient.

The domination and ability to foresee important future events by China is INSANE! Every step involved in the production of an EV, even the miniscule parts of the process is supervised by them! We, as Indians, have a long long way before we even imagine displacing China from it's position. With that said, the journey looks tough but isn't impossible. Fantastic presentation yet again by the team behind Think School, thanks for this!

I don't understand what is so surprising and astonishing in that...China started EV adoption as a state wide policy after its infamous air pollution caught headlines worldwide especially after its grand Olympics event...Being ambitious and a emerging, aspiring superpower it was only imperative to work in that direction in the interest of its large population of 1.4 billion people...Australia, Chile , Argentina have no human population as chunk of humanity lies in India , China and Europe!!...Now that US has thrown its marketing and hype around EV and all these China conspiracy theories start to emerge🤦‍♂️...Suddenly EV trend has become aspirational and high social status symbol....Nobody had stopped India or US to catch up early in the EV race...It's better for the planet!!❤❤

Around 70 - 75% of world's EV batteries are manufactured in China only. 12% by US, rest 13% by Europe & rest of the world. 7 out of 10 world's EV battery manufacturers are from China (among these 7 mostly dominated by 2 top Lithium battery producers CATL & BYD). In the rest, 2 are from South Korea(LG & Samsung) & 1 from Japan (Panasonic). Not only that, in Lithium mining too around 51% of world's Lithium mines are reserved by China only (ie., Lithium mines in Australia, Chile, Bolivia & Argentina). That is the dominance of China in the EV domain. 🤗 India is no where in the EV picture at all..🙄🙄🙄

Lithium can be replaced with Sodium which very abundant in India in the form of table salt but we need to comprise little bit on energy density. @morganangel340 5 месяцев назад
@@AdityaKumar-uf8zp there is about 2-3 kg of lithium in the entire battery pack. Even if is sodium is 10x heavier, it will weight like 20-30 kg more from a 400-600kg battery. (sodium is just 3x times heavier)
@ashayadav664
@ashayadav664 5 месяцев назад
@@morganangel340 May be it's heavy like four Times of lithium ( if it's is )but what if it's cheaper than lithium and we have abundance so we don't have to depend on any country and this is more helpful for us Like we take an example - 1kg lithium is of 1400+ and have mass production of sodium and we can get it less than 300 rs per kg but now it is of 325-350rs per kilogram so it's like four times cheaper than sodium and can have same energy that an lithium have in it in 1 kg so if we make a battery of 10kg of lithium we have to pay 14,000 and if it's of sodium it's only 3,500rs. And if the capacity of sodium is 160W-H/kg and lithium have 200W-H/kg ( both are average they lies in 160-200 and 200-250) so if we have to gain energy of 2000W-h/kg we have to pay 14,000rs in (10 kg of lithium) And if it's sodium than it's 2000W-H/kg in 4,375rs in (12.5 kg of sodium) Data given by Google if someone want to check please verify from Google Quora and other sources... And I am not an professional this is just I typed I get from the knowledge of EVs What I know about them So ignore all mistakes and get the facts 😅.....😊

Biggest problem is electricity production itself. To fully charge An electric car battery you need almost twice the amount of energy that an average house consumes in a day. And in a country like india and other developing countries where we still don't have consistent supply of energy at many places, it will be a difficult transition to go all electric.

I drive 40km daily and barely use 4-5kWh of electricity This is about same as consumption of 1.5T AC over 2-3h of running. More driving means more charging - what you’re quoting is the battery size - nobody is using up the entire battery of their car or bike in daily usage. In my case, my EV will last an entire week of driving on single charge ie ~1000km per month. Besides, what you’re not realising is that the fuel used by your car is also transported in some way or other for example through trains (electric or diesel) from refinery to depot Then via truck to each petrol pump. Even refining of the fuel at refinery is using some energy in some form. By not using ICE cars, you’re also eliminating this background emissions and energy usage Let’s say all tanker trains are eliminated once we shift to ev’s, the energy saved from not having to drive those trains to transport oil will more than cover for the electricity needs of charging ev’s We are substituting one for another so obviously the resources used by the former will be freed up.
