IRON MAIDEN to me is the best live band, regardless of genre. I have sen them 17 times, they never fail to give you everything. Keep in mind Maiden has been selling out arenas, venues around the world for 40 years, with practically no radio air play. I dont think any band has a more loyal fan base. Going to a Maiden show is like you visiting 50 thousand friends that you never knew you had.
Got to see Maiden twice. They have rarely been where I lived. Even when other bands were performing nearby I was always working. They did not disappoint. Sounded as good or better live. Great show. Most fun at a concert will be ~nine months from this video. Saw Band-Maid and they were a blast. Most unique show I have been to.
I've seen them at least 20 times but its because I've had a really cool dad ever since I was little not trying to out do you or anything with maiden they were my first actual metal band and ive never been the same since
@@ChuckJansenII it doesn't matter at all actually I even said only because I had a really cool dad when it comes to maiden were all fans no matter how many times we see them I dont like being rude but also don't like someone starting shit for no reason
I mean, I've been listening to Maiden for a while now (im only 23 but ive been listening to them since around 13). So most of these most popular songs i stay away from, just due to how many times ive heard them. Id say some of my favourite Maiden tracks have to be: Phantom of the Opera, 2AM, Dance of Death, Holy Smoke (this one just always makes me smile xD), The Evil than Men Do oh and the Wicker Man (the "Your time will come" riff is just...)
Love that tune! Machine Head killed it too. The lyrical themes blend so well w their best songs. The beginning of the solo in Aces High reminds me of a machine gunner on a warplane. ...And the Trooper, an iconic badass riff and probably the most influential gallop of all time. It fits the prose of cavalry.
All of this makes me more sad about the fact that Iron Maiden is coming to Graspop this year (together with a ton of other great metal bands) a, about a 30 minute drive from my home and I can't go because of exams...
The last time I saw them live, I got exhausted just watching Bruce running about. He was epiic and the band's energy carried the same. Wonderful band live. Bruce's pants remind me of a ghilie suit camo/leaves pants.
Both bands Metallica and Iron Maiden are great. U know Metallica loves Iron Maiden too. Both band are incredibly energetic. Bruce Dickson is a great and highly technical vocal , on the other hand James has moderately technical and beautiful thrash vocal. Bruce gets point for his high note James gets point for his idolic posture with his iconic explorer in his lap.
I'm sure Metallica wishes that they were on Iron Maiden's level. When they had Cliff Burton and Dave Mustane's influence, they might have been somewhat closer
@@michaelhassler7446 you evidently ain't seen too much of their more recent live performances they've been killing it lately. Just the same ol typical Metallica sucks since the 80s bs. So original.
I'm a Metal Dad. I've taken my kids to see all the greats of my youth. Metallica, Maiden, Priest, Sabbath, Alice Cooper even Uriah HEEP . I am a diehard 35 year Metallica fanclub member but both my kids say the Alice Cooper show is their favorite. They do agree that "Fear of the Dark" live is pretty awesome. Between you and me Nita is my son's favorite guitarist. My daughter is a musical theater performer so it makes sense the Alice Cooper show hits her. We all loved the performance of this song when we joined in with it.
Totally agree this album is a classic. It's just awesome from start to finish. Unpopular opinion but the title track may be the weakest track on the album.
Bruce Dickinson's Chemical Wedding is possibly the greatest metal concept album of all time. Honorable mentions? Neon Black Mind Crime any King Diamond album What else ?
I’m 48, have been a Maiden fan since 83. Everything up to Seventh Son was incredible. Having said that, I never understood the hype about this song, especially compared to their catalog of material. It’s a good song, but far from their best.
Absolutely agree..... even 7th son was bloated. It's a good song on a mediocre album. I'll take pretty much every song from number of the beast, piece of mind, and powerslave over this.
It is impossible to determine which is the best metal band...it is also impossible to establish which band puts the best live show - There are no objective, measurable parameters to decide. Let us just enjoy what many talented metal musicians compose and, regarding live shows, let us respect the hard work of so many people involved. Just sayin'.
Totally agree, I love Maiden, there are so many awesome metal bands out there, I stumble across a new band at least once a week, and I'm like this band is fucking awesome. I should say I'm 48 and I love metal more now than when I was 13.
Rammstein definitely has one of the best stage theatrics out there for sure, pyrotechnics, costume changes, and all around stage presence is through the roof
I love the passion they incite in their fans, like that crowd is absolutely electric.. it's honestly moving how much they give to their fans and what the fans give back. Up the Irons forever!
I found Trivium’s “Shadow of the Abattoir” to be very Maiden-like and melodic … one of my fav songs from 2021 for sure!! ( Check it out perhaps Muhahaha )
I'd put other songs forward from that album other than Fear of The Dark. "Be Quick or Be Dead" or "From Here to Eternity" are the hottest tracks "Afraid to Shoot Strangers" has that great harmony part that sticks in your brain for days. That album is HIGHLY underrated. Although its not a "put it on and let it play" album so much as a "get into this track and play it over and over and over, then move on to the next one that plays right after that one that you hear cuz you're late on skipping back." I've been in love with pretty much every song on that album at one time or another.
Absolutely, even tracks like Wasting Love, Judas Be My Guide and Weekend Warriors are scorching hot. Great, great album with such well constructed songs
I’ve seen live: Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax, Slayer, Black Sabbath, A7X, Judas Priest, Muse, U2, Iron Maiden, GNR (92) , Def Leppard, The Police (2007) and some other bands. And the best sound/performance believe it or not was Def Leppard, 2nd I’d put Anthrax/Slayer, 3rd Metallica/Muse/U2 and the rest are equally matched except for GNR who really sucks live 😂
This really got me to metal genre, I almost cried how damn good that riff is at the end of the soft part at the start, I really said to myself, " how a song can be this fucking good"
Shred you are correct. This is the best metal song ever written. I must have been 12 in a record store with my dad and his friend. I walk by and an album art catches my attention. It’s Eddie on a throne surrounded by a bunch of demonic looking dogs. I had no idea what it was but I had to have it. The rest is history! The live version of Fear of the Dark on there completely reorganized my young brain and got me into metal Edit: it’s Edward the Great - Iron Maiden’s Greatest hits
So glad this video popped up in my search. Love the analysis. I submit that Rammstein is a very impressive live performing band and, if you haven't done so, I would love to see this kind of analysis on what I consider in incredible metal song is Mein Teil by Rammstein. Metallica is by far the best performing live band, in my opinion. Slipknot also has crazy live performances. Sevendust also has incredibly live performance energy.
"I am a man who walks with . . . . toads . . . . " Good point about this being a great introduction to metal. I got smacked in the face with metal. My introduction to metal was Black Sabbath 'Turn Up The Night.' That's just a full force blast of sound with no let up. No wonder I'm bald! Thanks Tony. Thanks Geezer. Thanks Ronnie. Thanks Vinny. Anyway, I was hooked!!! Irony Maiden is my favorite band. Harris wrote this songs (music and lyrics) and a majority of their catalogue, but Bruce Bruce and Adrian also have a lot of contributions in writing. Janick has some credits, too. Nicko and Dave may have the least.
I am 48 I have been a metal fan since I was 13, I love Maiden, but for me the best 2 Metal songs of all time, in My opinion are NightWish The Greatest Show on Earth and Mortification Envision Evangelene Period
The live performance of FOTD really elevated its status. Good song on the album but hearing it in concert with everyone singing along and then it kicks into the main fast part is simply awesome.
My favorite songs are: 1) The number of the beast 2) Be quick or be dead 3) Phantom of the opera... Technically, the best album is Powerslave, followed by Peace of Mind. Greetings from Serbia!
In response to your "Who puts on the best show?" question, I would say Anthrax. I've seen them I don't even know how many times over the past 30 years and they've got as much energy now as they've always had.
Yes, steve writes most songs, he'd the foundig father of maiden, Bruce said in an interview saying: if steve wants a song on the album, it will be. He commands what goes and what doesn't. Also, fun fact, once went to a maiden show and my uncle booked us in the same hotel maiden was staying, we found Bruce running on the treadmill in the hotel's gym, it was morning, when he stopped, it was evening, we weren't there all day to see if he had stop any time, and even if he did, old guy was on complete fire
"Who puts on the best show?" That's another video in itself, I think. Maiden are definitely up there, like you say. I've seen bands that I'm not particularly a big fan of, but the show they put on I have to admit was f#*king great!!! For example, I went to see Bruce Springsteen because my girlfriend is a massive fan. I'm not, but the show he put on was amazing and made me want to check him out more. Good topic for a discussion, maybe even a video!!!
Steve writes alot of songs but every one puts in ideas he oversees it alot It's in a documentary they all put it together but at the end of the day he says if it's acceptable or not Bcuz he is the Founding member of Iron maiden
I think fod is one of the best live song. First offical live version was 1992 Helsinkin Icehall and that shows how perfect song it is in live. Groud can singalong for whole song. UP TO THE IRONS fan since 1982
Steve writes most of the music and lyrics (and works a lot with Dave and Janick on their songs). He's great at writing super catchy melodies. I think Bruce writes the best stuff though, and Adrian is the best at writing the simple rocker tunes.
love Rick's videos, he has a good insight as a producer and, more than theory, I appreciate all those clues as to why something is "perceived" the way it is.
This song brings back so many memories of the days I used to play with my college band... I don't know if it's the best metal song or not, but I know it's one of the legendary ones!
id say enisferum puts on the best live shows, a good mix of riverdancing ,headbanging, flawless ability to nail the songs live, stage presence, and the ability to have a huge sound with just 5 dudes in the band
The decline of modern music, few reasons (I think): Yes, the memorable melodies. Imo todays music is more created on pre-existing templates so they can make quick songs, its allright when the song is popular for a short amount of time, so not for a longer amount of time, because the follow up to that song is coming really quick. In the old days songs, were really crafted and most of them became timeless songs. Another reason. The more the time goes by, the more old music there is.
Favorite Iron Maiden song. I always loved that they have 3 guitars + 1 Bass, instead of the synthesizer. It does makes a difference how their Heavy Rock/Metal sounds. I'm a big fan. To me they are the ultimate, timeless icons of British Metal. Another impressive LIVE version of this song is a duo with Doro Pesh & (ex Maiden) Blaze Bailey at the 2004 Wacken accompanied by a classical orchestra. Check the crazy huge crowd reactions. Some RU-vid vids of that are better than others, find the best audio/video. The quality is so-so given it was early 2000's.
That crowd...... DAMN. 80k people? We need to get LOVEBITES down there. ( Rock in RIO festival would be the hot ticket. ) You know who puts on an amazing show? WAGAKKI BAND.
ITs funny now I’m in my early 50s will 4 kids and a grandkid and feel so lucky to have seen all the late 70s - 90s bands my kids say there jealous of me when they see my stacks of concert tickets. And you know what they should be 🤘😎🤘
This may not be the best Maiden song but live it is a killer. Their ability to get the fans to bounce at will is better than anyone. Best show I ever seen was Queen. Front row at the Igloo in Pittsburgh during The Game tour. Freddie was the best. My eldest Son and I have seen Priest and Maiden together. That’s how you bond with your Son. By the way I think they are the best guitar team in Metal.
Hey I am 31 and I have to much arthritis to do the things Dickinson is doing on the scene there. And he is like 80 or 90 or something at that time, and now a dacede or two later he has recovered from cancer and hes still as young as he ever was, just a bit more skinny. Iron Maiden has been my favorite band since I was 12
Is it is it just me or when Shed was breaking down the music like when he was talking about Bruce Dickerson's age, it sounds a lot like Bathory Blood and Ice, long live metal, my 15 year old son got me watching this that boy can shred Iron maiden -Rolling stones! We both have tought our selves and not the right way but man, when you walk in and hear your son playing Prowler from Iron Maiden or Six Feet Under it's like. WOW!!
