I just bought the Yamaha Pacifica PAC012; the least expensive guitar in Yamaha's line-up. I'm totally impressed with how nice a guitar Yamaha makes. Nice action, nice tone, no sharp fret edges, a comfortable neck. I was also considering the Squier Affinity Jazzmaster and Affinity Stratocaster. So glad I chose the Yamaha instead after reading so many positive reviews on not only this guitar; but all their guitars in general. I've not really heard anyone say anything bad about them.
Kyle…been waiting for this vid for a while…I’ve been looking for one of these but can’t find them anywhere, its always a pre-oder or something else…great review as always my man!!!!
Apparently Revstars are hot items, even before this model. I had no idea either haha! I ordered this one in May I think, and originally Sweetwater told me it would be November. They ended up getting some early. I’ve kept an eye on them and they have never changed from the preorder status since launch. I guess it’s a join-the-line kind of thing, but maybe it won’t take too long.
That's a killer looking guitar, really like the green on that one. This Yamaha seems to be a pretty versatile instrument and seems like I could have saved me a lot of money if I just got one like this. I probably wouldn't have 2 Epiphones, a PRS SE and a Gretsch 5220, nah, I think I would have gotten those too anyway, you know how it goes when it comes to gear addiction. Btw, I didn't get a Ibanez acoustic but got a Martin 000-X2e instead so I'll just have to watch with envy all of your new guitar reviews until the coast is clear for me to get another one if any. I was checking these Revstars out when you first mentioned them and as usual, they didn't make one with the P90s in a lefty model, only humbuckers but at least they have lefty versions available.
Haha I have to admit I keep thinking this does everything I need a humbucker guitar to do 😂. With this and the V I could be set, but like you I just enjoy guitars too much to stick to 1 or 2 lol. Congrats on the Martin! Martin makes my favorite acoustics, I want to get one eventually.
I have a standard model with humbuckers and it was flawless when I got it I didn't even have to do any set up on it. It plays fantastic, but I'm thinking about switching out the pick ups for PAFs, which is what I normally prefer. The Yamaha pick ups are a bit too dark, but that's a matter of taste, obviously :)
Hope you’ve been doing well man! I love this thing haha! I was shocked at the quality level really. Yeah that Jazzmaster is in heavy rotation here too, that’s a fun guitar. Take care!
FWIW, both the standard and Pro use actual Mother of Pearl on the inlays. Shine a flashlight on them, look how varied they are inlay to inla, and even within an inlay.
I really like your demo, thanks. Do the jumbo frets feel big to you, taller than medium jumbo frets? I really like tall frets, so hoping these feel big.
I have the P90 version of the standard. It is ... OK. I have not really bonded with it. Something about the tone just feels off to me, like it's a little thin and hollow. I have decided to keep it and keep trying to love it.
Interesting, one of my biggest hesitations on the P90 version was that it sounded kind of thin in the demos I heard at the time. It’s can be tough to record audio so I wasn’t sure if it was the guitar or another factor. Good to hear an opinion from someone who has one. Maybe I can check one out some day. Thanks for sharing!
The way it feels holding and playing it definitely gives you Gibson vibes, but it doesn’t have any of the awkward quirks that the Gibson shapes have. It’s balanced like a strat. It feels familiar like a Gibson but like something different at the same time. I dig it!
The fretmarkers are underwhelming, they should stand out more against the dark background, especially considering Yamaha are using Rosewood not laurel or Pau ferro that tend to be lighter woods, on this model. The headstock shape and size looks too small to me compared to the width of the neck, so looks like an after thought. Shame the green wasn't a darker shade like British racing green, would have looked better IMHO.
Yeah when I first saw the inlays I thought they were small too. I would like to have seen some blocks but maybe they wanted a different look. That darker green would look cool too!
It's the reflections and lighting that makes the neck look pale here. The neck looks much more contrasty and sharp actually. The contrasting bindings too. A different and modern look.
I've sent back TWO Yamaha Revstar Standard's because of poor workmanship and non-existent quality control. GUITAR 1 had a G-string and top E-string that sounded like a banjo - clearly a badly cut nut. Not acceptable. GUITAR 2 had an 'adjustable' bridge that wouldn't adjust. Someone had tightened the screws so much that it was impossible to shift. Not acceptable. I WON'T BE BUYING FROM YAMAHA AGAIN. I never had this problem with my brilliant Fender Player Plus Telecaster - Mexico is clearly better than Indonesia for quality control.
