Considering HW3 decides to dumb things down with how quick the TTK is, no flanking damage and no attack move, this game i think can pull in some more of the Homeworld playerbase with how in depth it is. It's basically hardcore Homeworld. By the way the campaign that people is playing is likely the 'Exception to the Rule' campaign. THat's not an in development thing that is actually a mod you can download right away from Steam workshop.
I have been keeping my eye on Nebulous and I have seen people recommending it in the Homeworld 3 discussions. I am honestly not sure how I feel about the state of Homeworld, I was hyped when it was announced and after the demo my fears where confirmed. I am very sad to see Homeworld go this route but a part of me hopes that it can rest in piece like C&C does.
My hopes with HW3 are after no well received demo they are taking a step back after post-poning launch and reverting back to something more like the original at least in terms of controls and such.
Looks awesome really... However, my suggestion to dev's would be to try and make UI (ship commands and such) more streamlined/cleaner. For someone like me that loves deep strategy/complex games it's not a problem, but I'm sure it would be a turn off for an average gamer seeing a bunch of letters/abbreviations instead of a "clear" command (takes too long to learn what is what).
well.. the main dev is an ex us navy (officer?) so i am pretty sure this system is pretty streamlined already. In his most recent dev blog spoke about introducing officer roles and about the developing of the "campaign" were you will have also to manage also production, ammo, fuel and maintenance of your fleets in addiction to merely "battles"
@@andrews.5212 True, but as you said, he is an officer(?), so it might be streamlined for hardcore players, but for an average joe, he's just gonna look at all the "weird letters" and give up before even trying to figure it out. It all depends on what the dev is going for, if he is going only for the hardcore players, than there is nothing wrong with it if you ask me :)
@@DarkSorrow29 People has to stop beeing so lazy. I learned, and played, english games entire childhood and it was well before I was able to even READ english. Trial and error, press a button. Learn what it does. Its not that hard. Its mostly abbrevations, not another language.
I often use F key to center-in the subject or target that I want to ingage, and it became my primary way of navigating around the map in 3 dimentional space, other then using number keys for you own ships. Using WASDEC to pan the camera just feels a bit awkward imo. But hey at least this game allow you to change keybinds.
Yeah I'm definitely going to play some more and work on it. That was only like day two for me so I'll be learning some more. Watching the dev play you can make it feel much smoother for sure.
I got used to wasdec in nebulous very quickly. I recently went back to play tactical fleet sim mod for HW2 and changed the controls to match Neb and I find I move and react to things much faster than the last time I played HW. I only use the F key in Neb when I want to quickly zoom in on an enemy to try and figure out what kind of ship it is from the spread of the shots hitting it.
@@MrSlvr2000 likely, a forgotten unique gem. BSG mod is super immersive in Nexus, also there some upscaling mods available through Steam for main campaign
It can be pretty easy to manage a lot of ships if you have them arranged in appropriate formations (unless you have some ship builds that need to spin to bring more weapons to bare or launch out of line of sight missile strikes without accidentally launching the missiles into asteroids). The main limitation to huge swarms of ships is the lack of game engine optimization and the netcode. Even good set ups struggle to make it playable when the numbers get high and players start getting disconnected.
I have spent 2k plus hours in that game and most of it was in the shipbuilder mode alone, its a damn good game. Also, i'll be stealing the name, ANS Moral Failing and Value Judgement.
It's an interesting game, but the community is just so damn sweaty. You will often see veterans with gold ranks stack a team to seal club newbies and refuse to balance matches. It really doesn't help that the game is very obtuse or is outrights hiding critical information about gameplay mechanics, e.g. missile behavior. Or that veteran players are attacking & insulting newcomers for trying out builds, which they just can't know are "bad", e.g. railgun battleships. The game desperately needs a rework on its mechanics, but even moreso on its UI and information visibility.
HW3 had a good platform - all they had to do was take what was there and improve and add to it. But in today's world that's just to much to ask. Hopefully the patches and new content can redeem some of it.
"they"? there is one developer.. and no, the coquest campaign is moving forward. Latest devlog was released yesterday. Its quite working allready in testing.
@@MrSlvr2000They will not have a singleplayer campaign, it's an online campaign only, where you can play against AI or do PvP. There is no story and singleplayer missions planned.
