Not technically a part of the weapon itself, but it should also be noted that the Spinal Beam Cannon only has a 20% overheat chance when BSed because of the Keystone hull mods, making it safer to use This turns an already terrifying weapon into something that can deal the highest alpha damage currently in the game and sustain that alpha for a surprisingly long time If a beam Keystone gets the drop on your ship, it *will* die

Beam Keystones really are terrifying, the apex predators of the Nebulous Battlespace. Your only hope is to keep them at bay. And yeah I will need to do a video on hull quirks etc. Thanks for pointing this out.

Thank you for making this video. I liked how you gave context to the raw numbers. I hope you continue this series. As a future idea perhaps a radar video covering the different types, can/should you stack different/similar radar modules, effectiveness vs jams, or whatever strikes you as worth pointing out? Or maybe something on stacking penalties? Keep up the good work!

Vauxhall now has 300mm armor protection, providing some protection against HE shellfire and potentially glancing a few AP hits here and there. Also, 250RPF has been boosted to 13mm piercing power per fragment.

Great video! Just wanted to point out that there are some typos in the DD beam weapon text (24000 m instead of 6000 m). Otherwise, great video! Learn a lot

Great video! Thanks for breaking down all that data. A few notes, as I understand things: the external parts of the turrets are not part of the damage model. So while I love the idea of using RPF to damage them you still need to pen the armor to get to the hit box that is directly under the turrets to damage them. One other important thing is that there is a negative damage modifier for over penetration that significantly reduces damage, somewhere around .3 iirc. So rails do a lot less damage at close range since they almost always over pen.

@@crashtestproductions6609 they are anti corvette, but yeah it's generally better to hit them with HE. But RPF will hit more often so 🤷‍♂️

Oh really, the information I had was different. It sounds like I am probably wrong though. It is easy to test. That is frustrating, I thought it was a really cool niche use for RPF rounds. Thanks for the info.

Fantastic video! Answered a lot of questions that I had. It's helpful to know there doesn't seem to be any penalties to over pen from rail guns. I would love to see break downs on all the other modules like the others have requested. Also, I love the background footage switching to the appropriate ship based on the turret of discussion. Awesome!

I would love if you started a series on this game. But if you do please don't mute the background music! I would also love to see you play some of the latest fade games like Dome Romantik. Been missing your comments! I am doing a few things with Nebulous, you are right the music is amazing, but the lack of campaign makes it hard to do videos on. Multiplayer matches are very frantic and not great for content! I had never heard of Dome Romantik, looks interesting.

450s, when mounted on a fast battleship, are unabashed Beam ship killers. The range advantage that they have over Beams puts them at just the sweet spot for their accuracy, and with their severe damage profile, they can and will start killing components quickly. Their low cost also means that numerous supporting components to up fire rate and accuracy are available to them, while also letting you install numerous drives to really min-max your speed and maneuverability, compared to Beam ships which might not have such options. Now, make no mistake, this also puts them at severe risk. It's a literal knife edge to keep a beam battleship at range while pummeling it with your guns. But if you pull it off, you will wreck their face.

I need to play with this more. The 450 build you mention sounds a lot of fun but very micro intensive. At the moment I am holding back from playing a little until carriers and fighters get added to the game, as I think that will change the meta a lot.

@@Phrosphor Fighters and Carrires won't be around for a solid year at the least. The next big meta changing update is missile customization, which also will come with procedural VLS launchers (including size 3 launchers), and vastly improved guidance for missiles and firecontrol for PDTs to compensate. Right now, missiles are best used in spam, but easily defeated by properly deployed chaff. In the future, that will become much less certain, but there'll be fewer missiles for PD to have to beat. I'd still play around with a Fast Battleship in skirmish, as the details shouldn't change that much for such ships.

great vid! You mentioned that the beam weapons are "lasers," but I thought the game refers to them as particle beams. Those two things are definitely different items and different physics. Do you know which the developers intended them to be....lasers or particle beams?

120mm and 250mm look good on paper, but i really struggle to understand how to use them. I tested 7 corvette fleet with 120 and 250 against base heavy cruiser fleet (TF Oak). At minimum range they would shoot at one HC until they are out of both AP and HE without ANY visible effect. Post battle report shows orange and yellow modules on HC, but nothing too serious. All while second HC easily hits maneuvering at flank speed corvette with 450mm. At like 500 meters too. Seems like 120mm and 250mm are only good as secondary guns on missile ships. Finishing off strugglers after the alfa strike and to occasionally poke at some frigate.

The only places I see 120 performing well in the current meta is overwhelming Keystone Railgun fleets. Possibly, with some intense brinksmanship you could also outturn a Keystone Beam fleet but one mistake and you would go down fast. The hope would be with the sheer volume of fire you would get some HE penetration and deal catastrophic damage. My theory crafting for how to beat Keystone battlegroups is still in a very early stage. I personally haven't found a good use for 120 and 250, but the numbers suggest they may have good uses. Sad to hear they underperform in your testing.

I have been running the CL's with 250's (5 guns per CL) with 2 loaders, 2 gyros. Gives about 48% faster relad and 48% faster gyros. They mince CL's and down. But its importaint to carry missiles on either a secondary ship or on the CL's as it will take ages to down a CH or BB without them. CH's will loose alot of modules getting hammered by 10 250's but ods of killing the ship is low. I often get 30k damage done with each ships in the post battle repport. Often it comes down to surviving the initial missile barrages and avoiding railgun BB's with spotters. With HE or Proxy rounds corvettes are dead before they can run away or launch any significant ammount of missiles. CLs got a nice boost and are really fast for their size and punch.

@@jmkhenka since you seem to have quite a bit of experience, can you explain some things about armour? Do you use 250 AP or HE on HC and above? Do missiles reduce the armour in some way or they just there to cripple the target? I'm still figuring out how to use 2 torp 2 250 build effectively. It works sometimes, but usually one LC getting peppered with the long range fire and whole torp volley thing kinda stop working.

@@Phrosphor Yeah, I can see why. I just discovered Nebulous a couple months ago and am really loving it. It has tremendous potential. I am impressed with how smoothly it runs. I hope the developers eventually create a campaign mode.

Does the 120mm HE RPF work against missiles? I mean, the 120 and 127mm gun was the standard dual purpose gun in WW 2 (fires at air and surface targets), and proximity fuses made flak fire much more effective. RPF is still used in US destroyer deck guns for use against incoming aircraft and missiles.

As of the latest update not only does it work really well against missiles, but the 120mm guns when loaded with RPF will auto track and fire on incoming missiles when they are idle! The larger guns won't do this but you can still manually target incoming missiles with them.

@@The_Viscount I'm not sure if this works with naval history, but there is a new faction being added soon in which all of their ships are repurposed civilian ships. Either cutters with spinal mounted weapons or cargo ships with turrets!

Doesn't armor weaken during fights too? AP shreds it making it easier for HE to sear the insides? Cause if that's the case it's probably not a bad idea to bring AP on the 450's just to wreck the armor

Sadly this has been changed and now RPF doesn't really have a role. The components use the ships internal defense numbers. They will be adding fighters and carriers in the next update so that will hopefully add a use for them.

I will cover this in an upcoming video, but your best bet is to overwhelm the PD. Either fire so many missiles they can't shoot them all down (extremally wasteful) or coordinate missile attacks from multiple directions at the same time. The PD weapons will not be able to track to new angles fast enough to stop incoming fire.
