Full car review of Cupra Formentor 2024 1.5 TSI Diesel with 150 hp, front-wheel drive and 7-speed DSG transmission. Four years after its 2020 launch, does it still hold its own against SUVs in its class? So in this review we will look at fuel consumption, interior, design, how it drives and how much it costs!
The Cupra Formentor's design is the first thing that jumps out at you, unmistakable starting with its dimensions: 4 meters 45 long by 1 meter 51 high make it extremely streamlined and sporty. In fact, it is a coupe SUV with a racy silhouette and remarkable road presence, with standard FULL-LED headlights and functional aerodynamic air intakes. The generous rear spoiler also helps.
Cupra Formentor 2024 is available in gasoline, diesel and plug-in hybrid: power outputs range from 150 hp of the 1.5 TSI in the Formentor under test, up to 390 hp in the VZ5 with 5-cylinder engine. In between we find the 2.0 TDI diesel with 150 hp, the 2.0 TSI with 190 hp or of the VZ with 245 hp, and the plug-in hybrid with 204 or 245 hp. In short, there is still something for all tastes and mobility needs
Of course, on Formentor there can be no shortage of references to Cupra's typical copper color, on the logo and 19" diameter copper-plated wheels, as well as the stitching and stitching we find in the interior.
The interior of Cupra Formentor gives a pleasant idea of solidity and sportiness. The wraparound sports seats with integrated headrest and Cupra logo, heated, electrically adjustable with 3-way memory, stand out, as do the well-made assemblies and quality of the plastics. Formentor 2024's infotainment system includes a large 12-inch display that is fully finger-controllable, menu-rich, quite fluid and intuitive. The touch controls for the climate do not disfigure either, but they are not backlit. The Cupra ambient lights are spectacular, with different selectable colors creating a very eye-catching effect
The real star of the new Formentor, however, is the 10.25-inch Cupra Virtual Cockpit, one of the most configurable displays on the market. Packed with information, it can really be set to your liking, scrolling through many screens and selecting your favorite widgets via the physical controls on the right side of the sports steering wheel, cut below and redeemable as well.
The Cupra button on the steering wheel is unfortunately not here; Formentor's driving modes are changed from the touchscreen. The ride is right up Formentor's alley, really enjoyable thanks to the chassis tuned excellently by Cupra. The setup is just stiff enough without sacrificing comfort, and the steering is among the most communicative and engaging on the market, all combined with a low center of gravity and perfect weight balance.
On the Cupra Formentor one travels well even with five passengers, the space on board is more than sufficient, and the tri-zone climate makes it possible to regulate the temperature of the rear seats, where we find the dashboard and two USB sockets. Its styling, however, slightly sacrifices the Formentor's trunk, which is 450 liters minimum, but it has a well-maintained compartment, with practical seat folding and through-loading
How much does the Cupra Formentor 1.5 TSI consume? The 4-cylinder engine features a cylinder on demand mode whereby under certain conditions (including on the highway) it can shut off 2 cylinders. On the highway, it averages around 13 kilometers to a liter, which increases on medium-distance roads where it averages around 18 kilometers to a liter. This guarantees between 750 and 850 kilometers of range on a full tank of gasoline
Cupra Formentor 2024 starts at a price of 36,350 euros in the 150-horsepower 1.5 TSI version, 38,300 with the automatic transmission. The diesel starts at 38,500 euros, 43,000 with DSG and all-wheel drive. Formentor plug-in hybrid starts at 43,850 euros, while Formentor VZ raises the price over 50,000 euros. The more extreme VZ5 BAT limited edition version, on the other hand, approaches 80,000 euros. Finally, new is the Tribe Edition trim of Cupra Formentor, a rich trim of the VZ version.
