Earlier this week, wildlife presenter Chris Packham revealed he had been sent death threats after campaigning against the shooting of “pest” birds. His support of Natural England’s decision to revoke the licence to kill 16 species including crows, magpies, Canada geese and feral and wood pigeons has been met with aggression and frustration from farmers whose livelihoods depend on protecting their livestock. TV presenter Selina Scott regularly shoots crows on her farm in order to save the baby chicks who are at their mercy. Meanwhile, wildlife reporter Mike Dilger thinks birds need our protection and there are more humane ways to keep them away from your garden.
