there's also a few other things to consider- starting out as a beginner salon employee is fairly low wage imo. In most states it is minimum wage PLUS tips. So until you're ready to make the move into booth rental/business ownership, it might make sense as an older nail tech to hold onto a first job or some side source of income. I'm 38 and a nail tech and a bartender but I been working restaurants my whole adult life, nails I'm still less than 4 full years in. I still don' t feel fully confident in transitioning to nails full time bc the bar money is VERY good and I'm not quite ready to take that kind of pay cut yet. The plan is to widdle away my time at the bar and do nails more until I'm good enough to go full time. I've worked with a few nail techs that didn't stay on and I always wonder if they were honestly making enough money without a FULL, consistent clientele....
i had this exact same thought when i saw the title & pressed play. i'm not a tech, just a hobbyist/nail artist/content creator (i also do my momma's nails twice a month), but i have psoriatic arthritis. there are some days when the sheer *thought* of pickin up my efile has me like newwwwp. lol i can't imagine workin on multiple clients every day. 💙
I’m 41 and the answer is no. Also, I’m in school getting my business degree. I’m more than excited. I know I won’t love it forever but with AI taking over many jobs, this is a craft that will always get recognized. Just my opinion.
I know I'm not talented enough to do this on others. I do a great job on just gel polish but designs, extensions, tips are just not my thing. I do think to be successful you have to embrace all of it and do it well.
So I'm building a custom Press On Nails and I'm a beginner and learning. Im looking to hire outsource to build my vision were can I find great nail techs in Calgary ab 🇨🇦
Interesting take on things. It has nothing to do with being an older person going into nail technology in my opinion. As an older person who is pursuing being a nail tech I totally understand the ins and outs of business and changing dynamics. Don’t sell us short sistah. Your cynicism is showing. 😉
She said age had nothing to do with it. The bulk of the short video was about people who get into it as a career because they find it exciting as a hobby.
