So, in context, it's worth kind of looking at this passage, you'll notice that a couple of things that it doesn't say that money is the root of all evil, it's the love of money, greed. It also doesn't say that if you're rich, you're going to fall into temptation. It doesn't mean that you won't fall into temptation. But it says in verse nine for those who desire to be rich, you'll fall into temptation, into a snare.
And I, I don't think we have to really wonder too much about the veracity of that statement.

Trying to observe desire, the interior of my Castle, the conversation in prayer, with the Saints, Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament, and Our Lady, I observe: Money, chocolates, laughter, joy, beauty, and anything/everything that amounts to pleasure in life. If you measure all that within the limits and proximity of yourself, those all become short lived. Because, instead of being outward from yourself as Christ's body, blood, soul, and divinity is the outward sign of an inward grace, which our part is to share in that eternal glory: love itself. Instead, the condition set upon us through death and sin is an inward sign onto ourselves. Not outward, but onto ourselves. Love of money is only measured by the love of what people get out of it for themselves: their want and selfishness. Though, most might be convinced, that, even to do any good, must come from want and love of money. Yet, Mammon is short serving. Mammon doesn't last forever. Why love of Mammon over God, the true nature of love itself? Contigent on three necessary loves that of a Father, that of a Son, and in and between Them, in that love transcends, the Holy Spirit. Why each though of one love, characterizes that love by Three Persons of the same divine reality of that love? Can Mammon be greater and far more powerful than Them that do love? Does Mammon offer itself in death for the sake of one soul not to gain the world and lose their soul to the fires of Gahenna? I think not. For Mammon does not save a single soul from damnation and Hell. What does love of money do to save a soul from Hell? Nothing. Though, if money follows its' hierarchical relationship like paying a tithe, or placed before the foot of Christ Whose hands are nailed and held to the Crucifix, then money serves rather than being served. To love something is to serve it, and know it. Does one come to know, to love, and to serve Mammon? Or to come to love the Father as does the Son? The Holy Spirit serving both the Father and the Son? Or the knowledge They have intimately of that love? The Son knows, loves, and serves His Father in a dimension of true charity. Incumbent to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. But Mammon cannot carry any of these traits of that caricature of love. Because, by reality and existence, it is none existing, but dead. Like the perishable leaves that fall from a tree. None of it can save a soul or an entire nation. Let alone can Mammon or money save itself. However, money can be saved. Both in practical prudent reason of savings, and under the extraordinary resolve/act of Salvation. You can give money to something productive and good for the merit and achievement of the proper noble good of society. You can give money to Missions for the poor, the sick, and the dying. There is a good wholesome view and merit to use money. Where its' full worth and value gains appreciation for what it was used for: like saving an unborn child from abortion, and assisting the woman to live well and take care of her child. Money does have in the ordinary virtue of life some sanctifying value. However, love of it does not. But love of neighbor does. No greater love than to lay down your life for a friend. Lay down your wealth for Christ and His Church for the salvation of souls.
