Great Job. As a black person in the Engineering world, I make a living by analyzing efficiencies within the Engineering Product design and manufacturing processes in NY/NJ area. I then Identify opportunities that companies will usually leverage to achieve cost savings. The same template can be used to identify countless Job creations, cost saving, career building opportunities in Africa. I will be more than glad to be a guest at your Podcast. I can pin point countless opportunities that can be used to drive crazy change.

The questions need nuance and a bit of context Oshay. For example if someone is working McDonald’s and has no savings and went to Africa they wil turn back asap. There are almost zero assistance programs so you are on your own Africa has opportunities to make money for those with a business mindset and cash in hand. Opportunities mean nothing if you don’t have money or capital to make things work. Obviously there will always be outliers who make it starting with little money. Those people would make it anywhere in the world. The majority of people migrate just to get a job and guarantee a good living and only those who save can go back to Africa and take advantage of the opportunities.

So with listening to that… I’m all for coming back to an African country and building. But if we’re successful in the west and move back to the continent to relax and live life/retire… why would we try to “build” when it’s so difficult and native Africans don’t even want it for the most part? Or not conscious of it yet. Will us building communities be sabotaged by governments or the people? Will it wake people up to support each other and do for self? Is it an obligation for all Diaspora to build if they come back? As I said I will be a builder in Africa. But I’m exploring every angle of this because it’s not a simple issue obviously. Loved this episode! Keep going y’all.

I loved Dr Js points too. Overall great podcast. Shout out to Jonita & DJ M. These conversations are healthy for the diaspora. I’d like to add if your going to be a lawyer, engineer, doctor or an accountant then yeah life can be smooth . It’s when you want to join the entertainment industry - that’s where the problem begins. That industry is run by the white power structure. You have to learn how to get a share of the market without selling out. Shakir J. Z. Oshay dominated the conversation, he had profound points but it was a bit unbalanced. Dr. Juliet had some interesting things to say but she is too soft spoken, hard to hear. Some African leaders invite their citizens abroad to come home, at least, from time to time to join in the building of their countries. In Ghana, successive governments have invited Ghanaians abroad to come from time to time to join in the building of mother Ghana. Many Ghanaian professionals come home from time to time to help. The Ghanaian government is helping in this area. Ghana, Nigeria and many other African countries have many professionals, those trained overseas and those trained in their own countries. Africa is open for business, wherever you come from, African Diaspora, China, Sweden, USA, Canada, England, Australia, France, Germany etc.

I enjoy this show very much; and apparently I'm a "pan-Afrikanist" (which is fine I'm cool with dat). Having said that; my first ambition for any/all Afrikan is to extricate themselves from their Colonizer. Sanitization is needed from Top/Bottom; especially foreign soldiers. After that, I'd look for a Return of ALL artifacts sitting in Foreign museums/libraries etc. Following that; re-pair-actions for each/all colonized remnants. Lastly, govn cleaning; if your not there to Serve the People and their desires you gotta go. The challenges are large and complex to a degree; but with those four fundamentals return of diaspora as well as brain drain folks would be stronger. NoBody, wants to live in an environment where overnight your govn/society could change. Removing the interlopers will begin the process. For the naysayers of Re-Pair-Actions; eazy, turn off the Tap. The world Needs what Afrika has; NOT the other way around. Turn off the Tap; then make the demands clear/concise. Watch any all requests manifest before you; then management and work, ta dow; new Afrika, new day... just mho...

Dam girl moved from China and saying skin color matters more in America, nobody is fooled in America. Jealousy runs deep most people see it nowadays, it's no wonder some people are the way they are instead of blaming the skin color for what everyone does regardless. Go any countries and it's same with anything jobs and skin color, sex, religions,schools, buyin selling Africans don't give other white or black Americans a better deal, in fact in America black and white Americans get the same deal.

It is amazing to me that we r all r still colonize most of us do not know it. Why I say this when our children go in fear but we laugh the laugh is fear not understand what that do to the mind the war is in the mind. We have to understand it war to these people they know it we do not. Most of our people r in a delusional state not recognizing it is not reality .

Joanita I usually agree with what you say. But in this episode you sounded narrow minded: you (Joanita) have no idea of how most Ugandans are living in USA. I almost sense a bit of resentment from you (Joanita) when you talk about Ugandans living in USA or Europe. I noticed you are always sneak dissing the Ugandans that are living in USA or Europe by assuming they are "cleaners" or "garbage collectors" or "they are excited at the site of snow." I never met any Ugandans in USA or Europe that are cleaners or garbage collectors. I never been a cleaner or garbage collector a day in my life. The family I was born into work in the corporate world, own businesses, are doctors or diplomats in USA. From listening to Oshay Duke Jackson (a Black American aka African American) speak on the Repat Podcast he knows/understands Ugandans that were born/grew up in USA better than you (Joanita) do. In this episode, Oshay said everything I would have said about Ugandans living in the diaspora to counter what Joanita said. You should continue bringing on Dr. Juliet because she is a wealth of wisdom too.
@evaallen9728
@evaallen9728 Год назад
Not to take away from what you replied, since that is your "narrow" scope of experience. I have met and worked with Ugandans here in Canada and met a few when visiting UK. Most are unfortunately working in low level jobs (cleaners, security guard, coffee shop server etc.), perhaps they tell their family back home something else but reality is harsh in the Western countries. The cost of living is high and people do what they have to do. In general, hard working people and the ones I had the opportunity to meet were polite and friendly.
@RealStellaStella
@RealStellaStella Год назад
@@evaallen9728 one of my petpeeves are some people peddle a certain narrative that the "only Ugandans living abroad are working in low level jobs, cleaners, garbage collectors." And then when people like me, my family, or friends coming from USA are in Uganda they ASSume ALL Ugandans abroad are working/living in "low level jobs, cleaners, garbage collectors" until we show them proof that's never been our reality. If you are going to mention what Joanita mentioned on air at least have a balanced view by also mentioning the other side because what Joanita said isn't every Ugandan's reality. I'm glad Oshay is on the Repat Podcast to push back on the narrative "only Ugandans working/living abroad are in low level jobs, cleaners, and garbage collectors" because he echoed my sentiments.

Im say something being a garbage man aint that bad of a job most i know, now make close to 20 dollars an hour might not be alot to some but you can support a family off that and at the end of the day that should be the goal for every one. Thats a solid blue collar job and it respectable profession.
@RealStellaStella
@RealStellaStella Год назад
@Purple_Orca40 I hear you. I'm not knocking people that are garbage collectors or in blue collar jobs. In fact, some of the people I'm grateful for include garbage collectors because without garbage collectors, garbage would be backed up in homes and on the streets. Garbage collectors help us keep homes clean and streets clean.
@monicanamarome2446
@monicanamarome2446 Год назад
It's just a discussion and she only sighted a few examples to show that it always appears greener on the other side irrespective of how seemingly ordinary the job maybe. If you've had a relative living in the U.S or UK cleaning, when they return home, its them that are buying the mansions. Unlike someone doing the same job back in Uganda, they seem better off. I don't think she meant any disrespect in any way. That's just how most people see it. I'm sure your would get the same assumptions if you asked locals from within Uganda.
