Is it possible to beat Super Mario Bros. (in Super Mario Maker 2) without touching a single coin? 

This is the coolest thing ever. Thanks so much for this. And yeah, this has some inaccuracies but this was the best I was able to do. I am working on Lost Levels too for anyone wondering, but I need a bit of a break from copying blocks one by one haha. Edit: I'm not sure if you guys watched the video but Nico made it very clear that the physics are different in SMM2 and he never treated them as the same game :p

You know, It's super easy to do in Super Mario Maker, when you have no lives to worry about! Also the physics in SMM2 make it a lot easier to jump off of enemies!

I've done this myself, and I can personally vouch that the original SMB is not only also possible to beat coinless, but considerably more challenging to pull off ;) For one thing, mushroom platforms aren't semisolid, so you can't jump up through them and have to go over the top of those coins in 1-3. The koopas in 8-4 don't jump high enough to reach the pipe so if you don't wall clip you're forced to hit a kaizo block with a coin. 4-3 is damn near impossible with pixel-precise jumps at every turn, and the tight jumps you mentioned in 8-1 are even tighter.

This is the best remake of Super Mario Bros. 1 in Super Mario Maker 2. I have a few questions regarding the theming in some levels/worlds. World 3 is at night time. Is there a full playthrough of Mayro's remake of Super Mario Bros. 1? I would love to see it!

My only problem with this video is that it’s re-created in Mario Maker and the result might be different due to things we can’t re-create, game mechanics and other quirks that are different on the original version. Sure they are probably similar enough and it’s definitely a good video but the title is pretty misleading

There's only one majorly tricky spot in the original SMB when doing a coinless run. You can see it in a coinless speedrun. But that part doesn't even get mentioned here, so I'm guessing that particular jump is negligible in the recreation.

Before I start watching the video, I can immediately say "yes", because you have to avoid coins when going for a low-score run, and the only really tricky coins to avoid are in 8-1, with one pair requiring you to either bounce off of a falling Goomba or do a frame-perfect wall jump on the right edge of the pit that the coins are over. (1:11) Ah, so you're using Mayro's remade levels for this. (2:23) That pair of coins you're dodging there should be slightly to the left, so you wouldn't normally need to utilize the fact that SMM2's mushroom platforms are semi-solid. (3:40) Actually, that lonely brick block is empty and breakable, at least in the original SMB. (IDK if Mayro put any coins in it.) (4:40) Seriously, Mayro? But, at least they're easily dodgeable. (5:05) Semi-solid mushroom platforms FTW here, because in the original SMB1, this would be a really tricky jump to dodge all the coins. (6:45) LOL! Alright, Mayro remembered to place the hidden coin blocks there! (7:00) Wow, all those X-es... (7:24) Normally, falling would be fatal here, but not in Mayro's remade version, apparently. (7:41) And yet, this "garbo" somehow has 209 likes. Whoops. (8:10) Despite the pits being wider than in the original SMB, those jumps look easier to make without collecting a coin here. (8:45) Wow, that was a pretty sweet Hammer Bro. stomp there!
