I have this from 2003 with Win XP. I have it still and use once a year out of nostalgia. The keyboard on this is one to die for!

@@AICvideo The second ram slot doesn't work, so right now it has 1 GB ram installed and its a bit beat up but it works. Also I have Windows 7 on it right now and it's just my go to laptop for if something doesn't work on my main PC.

I just got one Locally yesterday with the original HDD . for $40 that I upgraded to a 512gb SSD via IDE to MSATA for less then $80. I also upgraded the ram from 2x 256mb to 2x 512mb I find MSATA to be a lot more reliable and cheaper then compact flash,

Would you Necessarily say it would be easy to fix.I found this same model around a year ago and didn’t know what to do with it ,so i want to restore it so I can see if i can do basic programming on this old PC (if even possible).I would love to work with old technology.

It comes down to what is wrong with it. If it's a replaceable part like a hard drive it's pretty easy, but if the caps are blown, that's a lot harder. It makes a great windows xp machine, or a dos machine. I plan on putting Linux on it, and see what it can do.

I loved this laptop too! With Windows XP media center edition. I had the hp media remote, that used to slide into the expansion slot!

Wow that's a ways back. I have kept a Sony Vaio laptop circa 2010 alive and usable with upgrades (SSD and RAM), but I'm not sure I would want to go further back than that. Some of the things that will hold you back are: 1. That IDE interface. A laptop with a SATA (pref SATA 3) interface can be outfitted with a 128 SSD drive for about the same price as that 32GB IDE SSD cost. 2. No USB 3.0. Does it even have USB 2.0? 3. The WiFi will be awful, since it will be using a very early band. In any case, good luck, and I'm curious to see how the rest of this goes.

I know, this was partially for fun, partially because I thought it would be interesting. The USB ports are USB 2, and yes, the storage presents an expensive problem. Will it be worth the time and effort? probably not, but its fun to see how it will turn out. I have already taken it apart, and almost immideatly broke the bios battery off... So having to solder that back on. the CPU works, and I have memory on order. I'm going to install a few different operating systems, to see how they perform, XP, Vista business, 7pro, and windows 10.

AICproductions I'd be curious if Linux would work better than Windows. As you know, that box was designed for XP. My guess is that it will bail on Vista, run Windows 7 decently enough, and Windows 10 in some limited way (such as not much multitasking, etc.).

yeah, I'm sad that it doesn't have a S1 socket, since the turion 64 x2 and ultras were dual core processors, and would be a lot more relevant. I'm sure a linux distro would run way better, other than ubuntu I'm not too familiar with normal desktop versions, just REL, and even just touch that occasionally, when I have to.

@@AICvideo those old laptops are more capibale then one would think im useing a 2007 dell latitude from 2007 upgraded the ram and put windows 10 on it 64 bit and it came with xp no problems can do any multi tasking i want

@@ryzenplayergamer8196 This one is a bit too old, it can do stuff from the time it came from, but it is showing its age. Anything with a later gen core 2 duo though? still quite capable for basic tasks. My high recommendation for anybody wanting to buy a cheap laptop, a 4th gen core i5/i7 laptop. They can be had for under $200 (often well under $150), and have modern ports like USB type 3, some even already come with SSDs, especially if you use a business class (thinkpad/elietebook, etc).

Hi. Can you confirm the maximum RAM memory is 2 gigas? Some guys in other videos says it take like the double...which I highly doubt. Do you think is posible to upgrade storage to NVME technology using some sort of adapter or conector? What is the most powerful processor I can swap in this laptop? Thanks in advance

most old laptops are better than today ones only thing making them slow is windows and the hard drive wich you can replace also some of those play better games than modern ones with no dedicated graphic card i would say they are better and you should buy them used if you want a better laptop than what is done today keyboard build quality dvd reader ports everything is better in old laptops and screen are better in some models

This was my first laptop and loved it but it shut down in the middle of running it back in 2012. Is there any way i can salvage it? This thing lasted forever!

No idea, it depends on what is wrong with it. Mine had a bad system board, so I just bought a whole new one on ebay for a few bucks.
