@@HalcyonEXI feel like if Sub gets more damage and a good few plus on block moves he'll be pretty good. His damage seems to be the main issue since he has decent combos rn
Top tier editing on this video and the commentary is actually enjoyable. As for Sub-Zero, it’s not impossible to reach demigod, but the amount of effort will test your patience. His kit is fine aside from the near uselessness of Ice Klone and Ice Ball. His strings are also very unsafe and slow, so he’s easily punished. Until Sub gets a buff, you need to pay very close attention to your opponent.
Thanks for the kind words! And yeah, I don't think I've hit a single ice ball in the hundreds of sets I've played with Sub lol - I do get some decent mileage out of the klone though
@@FlashyyGamingYou’re very welcome! Ice ball is actually more useless than Ice Klone. The latter can be used to catch jumpers and for stylish corner combos, especially the amplified version.
I thought I was crazy when I saw the speed of his Ice Ball. Tried to just throw it out raw in a match once and it got stuffed before ice could even form in his hands. That for sure needs a buff.
Yeah it's disappointing for sure how hard sub has yo work for damage. Just not quite as satisfying as in mk11. I used yo be a sub main but I barely touched him in this one.
I really wanna check this character out more as he’s made stronger. Character wise I really like him, making Bi Han a villain akin to the shredder is a great choice for the new era, and I like how he plays off his younger brother. But damn you really gotta put in the effort for any reward
A little tip, at the end of the ashra match, when she was coming at you aggressively it wouldve been smart to 1. Ice Clone is meant to stop opponents from advancing towards you. And 2. BF3 EX is armored slide it wouldve killed
Been using him in my own Kombat League grind and, I dunno he just feels REALLY fun, but you can also really feel the struggle. It feels like a lot of his specials scale really badly, so you HAVE to use your kameo more than your own abilities. His ice ball comes out too slow so you can't effectively counter-zone half the time. And maybe I'm bad, or my opponents are just smart, but his overhead - low starters just feel...predictable? Even though he has a solid mid and the aforementioned starters. Not to say it's impossible to win, but it's like you said in your vid; you have to work extra hard for the same pay out.
@@wadewilson-xi1zsI really don’t think it’s a coincidence either! They just saw during the tournament how so many people were saying buff sub zero and then he gets this mysterious “bug” they are trolling sub zero fans. I’m surprised he’s even had a skin in the store yet! To get a deception sub zero is probably gonna be impossible
He's the weakest most likely, however he's also got the most fun kit I'd argue. Problem is I have too much pride to use Sareena so I'm really not getting much easy damage or pressure, haha
The more you delay that promised Kenshi video, the more I get hyped for all the Sento nonsense you gonna show us! Flashyy, It's gonna be a plus one hour video, ain't it?
Block low until he does back 2 and punch combos. When he does punch combos, block low until you see the slightly delayed attack since it's slow enough to stand up and still block it. If people kept a level head and didn't play so aggressively, there is NOTHING you can do to open an opponent unless you're running a Kung Lao cameo. All Subs Oki's can be low blocked except his back+2 which is easily identifiable and easy to react to. In fact, it's so easy to react to, I would suggest you NEVER start with it unless you want to cancel it into an ice slide. His combo strings do not change up mid-combo. This means, all you have to do is block low until he gets to his last hit. Worst yet, his last hit does not combo anything unless you're running Goro. To add, all his combo strings are simple, short, and hella punishable. He has no overhead special unless he's in the air, which can be up-blocked. If you play Sub-Zero, you also have to play with a third of your kit compared to 90% of the roster. His only mix-up attack is hella slow, easy to react, and extremely punishable. So all people have to do is block low to avoid ANY combo string. To top it off, his damage is sub-par compared to the rest of the roster. Most players have a hard time with Sub-Zero because they're not used to fighting him, but he is a troll character right now if you're serious about winning games. Edit: Do not cancel B+2 into an ice slide. If anything, cancel it into a clone. After the first hit is blocked, they can just immediately low block after.
If they buff him they should give him above average damage but not change much else, so he's an extreme high risk high reward. It wouldn't make him top tier by any means, but it would at least give him a fighting chance.
@unlimited_power7666 giving him high damage won't make up for the fact that his kit has more weaknesses than the rest of the roster aside from MAYBE Reptile. Every character, minus a handful, is high risk and high reward. I don't think Sub-Zero needs more damage. I think he does the right amount of damage. I believe everyone else's damage needs to be tuned down closer to Sub's. But that's just MY philosophy on game pace. I'd settle for either or tbh.
Lol at saying SZ B2 is easy to react to. Stop lying. It’s easy to react to in training, but in a match with stuff going on and if you mix them up properly? No. Sikander easily reached EG rank with SZ and he used b2 every now and then at the highest level. Did people consistently block it? No.
@PetterNe He lands hits first, freezes them, and then uses B+2. That's not opening someone up with B+2. You won't get a chance to react to it because it's a combo string unless you combo break. Again, unless you're running Kung Lao for the low-high mix-ups, you won't open anyone up with B+2. It's very easy tto react to. If you can't, you're just not good at the game.
@PetterNe I'd also like to point out he made it to EG with more characters than Sub-Zero. And I've seen his games. His opponents were just too aggressive and looked like they never played against Sub.
I’m a SZ main in demi god. Sub just has way too much negative edge, 15 frame mid? Ultra punishable pop up? That may seem deserved but Rains double overhead pop up isn’t punishable, Ashrahs overhead is plus on block, scorpions pop up is only punishable if the high is ducked. Now put the fact that his ultra reactable ultra punishable pop up leads to a maximum damage of 40% which is heavily dependent on your kameo, and if you do bring a kameo like sareena or sonya instead of Kung Lao or Goro, you have absolutely no options but to just go for the overhead pop up on a yolo, Lao & Goro can help keep it safe & Goro can make your double low a pop up for a meterless 30% so not bringing goro with sub is basically throwing anyway. Biggest gaps in the game besides geras too. Sub is basically a character that is so bad he relies on a kameo to make him usable, the rest of the cast can use kameos to enhance what already works.
Id be totally fine with subs damamge if they revert the frame data changes they made from the stress test. Its so hard to make an actual punish with him thats worthwile.
Yeah Sub probably the worst character right now and Growing up with Midway and ending up with nrs today, I don't think they'll ever buff Sub they never did to begin with, We just had to wait for dlc kameos and lap, Tho the Kung Lao kameo is the best for Bi Han right now it really doesn't offer that much, And Sareena is more of a logical choice since she was his love interest in the old games where it always made since, anyways nice video bruv and keep the good work.
I'm a god rank Sub and it's awkward because i play super defensively and safe and i have 75% win rate however its pretty much run the timer and play till the enemy mess up i do safe pokes (you can armor through all his neutral strings) and play patently most people get impatient and try something then you respond accordingly, it's not the most exciting game play but subs always played more defensivle in mk x and mk 9... his clone is fairly bad, the recovery iots self is way to long to make it viable to use as a defensive pressure tool, like in mk x you could set it up then pressure with mix or strings since the enemy would always fear the clone but in mk 1 the clone is good to throw in neutral in case the enemy advances but not great to use to say safe because of the active frames its too easy too react and armour through. i think his dmg is okay not great but in the corner with some meter he hits decent numbers... maybe some less scaling would be nice but id rather have NRS buff his pressure, clone, gaps a lot more it's awful using 1,2. 2,1 then being armored through every-time... you can't risk pressuring with strings that much. Personally i use either Kung lao (Good pressure and unblockable corner mix if you set it up right) or cyrax if i want to stlye on the enemy with big dmg. I think he is the weakest but i think the balancing isnt too bad in this game, i'd but Shao arguably equal to sub tbh
So. Sub 0 can win if used correctly, the trick is, you have to zone and jump a lot, and basically train your opponent to think you’re going to jump in, but actually you jump out and freeze their wiff, you dash in, than you dash out, from here you can freeze, or jump in, or fake jump freeze, or slide in. You force them to work their way in. The reason this is a problem is because you’re usually always on defense, his damage is minimal, and you have to work and think a lot harder than your opponent to get the upper hand, and it can easily be turned around if they catch you with a quick start up combo or a teleport.
Maybe I'm just bad at the game but when I try to start some of subs combos and it gets blocked I get punished so much like if a combo starts and gets blocked the opponent has so much freedom to do a major combo
I love Sub-Zero always have always will but I watched the latest mortal Kombat tournament and I think especially compared to the even now nerfed cyrax not a single Sub-Zero made it 64th place
Is cloning close range unsafe? I feel like that would have the highest likelihood of success. I only play SF6 but similar to DI you could bait into a clone
If your opponent doesn’t have meter you can usually get away with it. But there are armored moves in MK1 so they can go right through it & punish. Just depends on the situation!
SubZero is my character I use him all the time. I don't think he is a bad character but I do think he is kinda slow and don't have enough combos to do. That means your opponent learns your repeated moves
The irony in all of this is Sub gets so much hate for being slow, and still the most rewarding and fun characters in the game. He may he considered low tier but that same challenge is what pushes you to be so competitive against other top level players. The developers should have sped up Sub IMO. If he was fast he'd be S tier easily. And to land his combos is the most satisfying. Even if the damage isnt crazy compared to others, the very fact thay you can land these combos against better players mske it worth it. The other players are suppose to be better than Sub, it clearly shows that players tend to rely on faster players with got 50/50s, Safe Overheads, Easy Mids and command grabs to bail them out instead of relying on skill to make up for it. Sub-Zero is the true testament of patience and hard work. To be competitive with Sub-Zero you have be ultra-agressive and patient at the same time to make up for his lack of speed and tools. All of these challeges make it worth it to master Sub and quiete honestly the main reason why he's my main and keeps me on the game.
Idk. I completely rock with sub zero. His ground to air to ground combos are just naaaaasty. You can tell your not familair with him but you still did well. Imagine knowing how to play him.
I use darrius with sub to keep my unsafe strings safe, or to continue my pressure. Sub has really good mix ups if you like playing mind games with your opponent. For example. B2 is an overhead, mid, but you can cancel that into db3 that way its overhead-low. Same with some of his other strings. Just keep messing with them and eventually youll win the match
The number 1 Elder God on Xbox plays sub. He doesn't need a buff. With cameos, all the characters are kinda broken. This is a party game. It's not meant to be competitive.
Yea subs not a bad character at all has good mix up definitely needs a damage buff tho but then u think that %40 combo he has might just go up to like %60 then he’ll get nerfed again
am i the only one that feels like sub doesn't need to be able to do 45% combos? i feel like he has so many tools that give him really strong pressure and some pretty damn good 50-50's im always scared to take my turn from him. I'd say instead of buffing sub, nerf people who have just as strong 50-50/block pressure pressure like kenshi, johnny and baraka. they just didn't get nerfed like sub because baraka and most of the kameos weren't in the beta, and there definitely was not enough time to mess around with kenshi and johnny to unlock their full potential (along with the lack of practice mode to even get there)
The fact that everyone basically wins fireball warts against sub zero is absolutely ridiculous! Make his close first full screen or his ice ball faster... COME ON!!!!
I see people arguing he’s not the worst character in the game saying he’s still usable, we’re not saying he’s bad no character in the game is bad they’re all usable but when you play against super good competitive players using the cheesiest and meta characters and kameos you see how less viable he is against these combos.
They nerfed a lot of characters damage output in the latest patch, but with the right kameo most characters in the game can get close to 40%+ damage. Raiden, Baraka, Kenshi, Johnny can still pretty easily get big combos
