Oh no! I hate no hood scoops. I’ve had an ‘04, ‘09 and ‘21 Cooper S. All manual transmissions. The final year of gas/petrol engines will be my next MINI…as long as a manual transmission is available.
...And you were a good boy by keeping your hands where they should be, unlike your latest bike review! Your vids always a real pleasure Tim, v much apprec'd.
I love Minis as I've had a few, but I'm having a hard time with the lack of buttons. If you have a family though, I'd go with the countryman. Still plenty of pep.
Great review with humor and (for me) honestly. I don't care about the bad comments cause I drove both s and c and I loved them. I was going to buy the aF56 but thankfully I ordered the F66 which is a step up in all fields for me. Ok I wanted the visible exhaust but I can live without it at the time till I decide to do something about it. Thanks again for your perspective!
As someone who's spent far too long in the mini configurator recently a quick note on the option pack prices: the costs in the video are for the base Cooper. The Cooper S gets the Level 1 pack as standard on all trim levels and knocks £2k off the price of the level 2 and 3 packs. As a result Cooper S gets Level 2 as an option on the Classic and Level 3 on Exclusive or above while the base Cooper is Level 1 only for the Classic, up to 2 for Exclusive, 3 for Sport. Had a poke around one of these last weekends and was honestly impressed. Interior feels very spacious though why BMW / Mini reflexively insist on calling the rear bag holders seats is beyond me. Love the material switch away from leather and the fake version they're using on seats and wheel feels pretty damn good. That screen really works and after seeing a lot of the BMW bits show up in the new 1 series (and then seeing the 1 series pricing) the Cooper suddenly looks like a bit of a bargain. My only real concern is the ride as this would have to do daily hundred-mile round trip motorway commutes so have to get one out on the road sometime soon.
I enjoyed your review. I was originally turned off by there not being a drivers display, but seems like that optional head up thing makes up for it. Actually prefer the look to the old one as well, which I thought always looked a bit too overdone. Good to see a nippy mini is still an option
If you Google pics of the original Mini (OG I believe the kids say) you'll see how retro the new interior design actually is.... hence the lack of drivers display.
I don't hate them, but having sat in one, it feels so much cheaper than my 2015 F56 with black leather seats(not an ad). The plastics feel a lot worse and the overally minimalist design makes them seem incredible basic. Would love to drive one though
I really don’t understand why they removed the exhaust. Also mini are supposed to be fun, removing the manual is fine but include paddles on all models if you’re not going to offer a manual.
Well what do sou expect bump up prices leave all switchgear from old one which are costly and charge more money and all paid “reviews”are positiv but we al know it will look complitly shite after ten years and screen is already laggy
I agree i dont understand the strategy behind it. Have the current JCW convertible and looks so much more premium than the new one..pitty would have bought the new one but not with this interior…
7:40 I'm from the USA and really appreciate your video. Are Racoons indigenous to the UK, or are they an invasive species? I kinda though the US was the home of the Racoon.
How many kg of downforce does the rear diffuser and en-vogue double roof spoiler (stolen from mg4 Xpower) add? Oh, ok. I still approve of the 3dr and really quite like it. Cheers Tim, glad you had some fun in it
So now nearly every Mini is a John Cooper Works just like nearly every BMW is an ///M-car... I was very interested to learn about the different models - the Chinese one vs the Oxford one.
if they did a hybrid self charging 2.0 CVT with a launcher gear, I would be game, but pure combustion and pure electric are not what young people want now, and before boomers come at me saying how minis are supposed to be 'fun' remember that CVTs are banned in lots of racing formats because of how much better than standard gearboxes they are with a launcher and proper calibration.
So a what £36k Cooper S. 😮 with tarty works badges when it’s not. Slowly chipping away the character. We have had five two currently on the drive. Experience mode, I’d rather have Sport, Normal, Eco and obviously there is no manual option now. I have heard the box is not too bad. This Car in Electric guise is £43k. Why is the key phob a TV control. 😢 Same S engine with a different map? Thinking Electric next so will wait to see what the new Electric Renault 5 comes in at. Mini just too expensive for what they are.
That interior makes the FIAT 500 look like a luxury car. Congrats BMW, you´ve succeded in making this new Mini uglier than the previous gen, just to keep up with tradition
Not even close. I am sure you are judging only by the video. It's perfect and nicer, especially the seats, wheel, buttons ( I hated the glossy plastic and cheap buttons on the wheel of f56) from the previous fat and old interior.
@@thanasisbert564 Sorry, but it looks cheap. Shares the same interior as the EV. They save weight in EV´s by making simpler interiors, with less quality materials. They look too basic. The previous MINI was miles ahead from this in terms of quality of materials and design
Lets make cheap interior in all laggy screen lets remove all the nice feeling switches from old one lets put cheap fabric charge more money and yes lets do back and of a suzuki swift from 6 years ago sure its much better then f56 lci… this reviews have to be positiv they wont get another car back
what a poor interior compare to F56. materials are rubbish, plastic inside so much worse. looks and feels very cheap. surprised so few people point this out, you have to be blind not to notice the drop of quality. vegan leather and recycled knit fabric like wtf really, far from premium
My hamster is currently missing, is he in a BMW steering wheel? You've got to hand it to BMW for the 20 year-plus success of the Mini revival. The 3-door still remains the best and by far the most charming; the other versions are clumsy and Mini in name only.
I’ll stick with my 2024 USA version with the manual transmission. Got it because I wanted a Mini, your new one is too modern for me. Maybe for the younger driver. Good video.
It's a fun hot/warm light class of hatch so automatically a 👍🏻 from me as they are now sadly a rarity (one reason of many i have no plans on selling my swift sport). Rear end isnt terrible, i don't mind it. Is it a pass for the lift off oversteer segment of the hooliganism through a roundabout test? 🤣 JCW badging, just like amg/M badges on non AMG/M cars lol. Also good video 👍🏻
@albertlira7443 If you can, you should. They are loads of fun! I bought a 2023 Cooper S about 2 years ago and I do not regret it. Some of the most fun I’ve had in a car :) feels like a literal go cart!
You can shut the fake engine noise and believe or not it was only in the Go-Kart Mode that the fake engine noises come on. It called MINI Sound. Turn it off and it sounds great.
Agreed the i20N interior isn't as 'nice' (mainly due to use of some hard plastics on dash/doors) as the Cooper S but all the 'touch points' (e.g. wheel, seats, pedals, gearshift, buttons) are lovely/feel solid and the dual screen tech works really well. It would be interesting to compare to the base Cooper S interior though, as reviewing top spec models adds thousands of pounds extra to the price of the mini. So, you pays your money and takes your choice.. I've had my i20n for 6 months and am absolutely delighted with it. Really glad I got one before supplies dried up. It's a cracking little car and an epic drive. I prefer the looks to those of the Cooper S and also wanted a 5-door after tiring of the 3-door layout on my previous Swift Sport It's super versatile too - being equally happy as a shopping trolley, kid's taxi or track weapon. Track use is even covered by the Hyundau 5-year warranty!. Far better than the 3-year warranty BMW offers on the Mini Cooper.
Glad you had fun. A few nights away from the kids have clearly had some effects 😀 They’ve never been my thing at all, but I can’t believe there is no man-box! i20n is gone already 😢😢😢 Btw, the Mini has a longer wheelbase than a 911 😮
If you own a F66 you’d probably leave the physical keys at home and just use the andriod / apple wallet unlock feature which I do with my MINI J01 electric.
In the states we won't get JCW _TRIM_ only legit JCWs later on this year - and less deceit (we leave the deceit to our government)... all the F66 are '25 model years we have 2024 as the F56. I'd love to replace my bonnet stripes with those on my 2024 (F56) JCW and the new JCW logo is growing on me....
My f55 is so much better imo, I’ve got aluminium switches, diamond stitched leather, much higher quality and prevalent ambient lighting and I preferred the bmw I drive display
They just made the special car (Mini) to a normal car. Too clinical, lack of personality, cheap looking but very expensive. Poor choices Mini. Glad we have the previous generation and we'll cherish it.
