Andy is so fuckin nice! I got lucky and saw a few of thr nka guys at Venice. Made my whole summer. All of em were dapping me up after tricks. They were all cool, just don't bug em when there filming.

I had the same issue with the adhesive on my gen 1 DKL, and was kind of frustrated because I bought a three pack back in the day and had two unused sheets---I reached out to them on Instagram, and they sent me a new three pack to replace the old stuff I had, and I haven't had any of the same problems with it curling off the board the way that it used to. I think my local climate messes up boards when you store them in the car, though, so I don't know how well the gen 8 griptape handles hot/cold/damp/dry cycles like that. DKL does take a little extra time to adjust to, but it's completely worth the bit of extra cost for how much it saves the wear on your shoes. The only issue that I still have problems with from time to time is that concrete dust completely kills its grip until you wipe/brush/blow it off with an air compressor. Also, I find that a scalpel blade or taped-up safety razor blade works much better for cutting DKL than a standard utility knife. If you have friends that work in healthcare at all, clinics often end up throwing out entire boxes of blades because the packaging has an expiration date, so I ask them to hook me up whenever they are turning over their storerooms.
Same here with experiencing the curling with the early version of their grip but having no issues with recent versions. After how badly it curled on me originally, I'm kinda extra amazed when I see my board now, with the more recent grip, as it looks so pristine and has no curling. :)
It took me 20 years to learn kickflips. I always did heelflips. I had a bad habit of kicking my leg out too far with kickflips. I finally learned them after I stopped skating for a few years and came back to it without the incorrect muscle memory. The funny thing is that I struggle with heeflips now instead, and I used to have them on lock.
It took me 17 years to learn how to kickflip. I finally landed one at 27 years old. I'm now 33 and am still not great at them, but I can land them in games of skate, both offense and defense so I'm content with the trick. Generally, I preferred doing back-foot scooping tricks (impossibles, shove its, pressure flips, etc.) but in recent years I've learned a lot of traditional pop & flick tricks (heelflips, half-cab flips, varialflips) and it's exciting!
i’ve never been able to get front pops down and it’s been about 10 yrs worth of skating. i can land one here n there but nowhere as consistently as hardflips, varial heels, late fs shuvs etc

I never got competitions, but man i live for a good demo. Pros hardly do them outside the big cities now, which is such a bummer. Closest thing you get these days are local rippers at shop events.
That's been happening for over 40 years. This type of griptape has been in development for less than 10 and even then will eventually wear down your shoes.
@@NoahGower People were ruining their shoes with sandpaper before non-abrasive grip came about - so it's sensible to keep ruining your shoes with sandpaper now. That's very interesting logic.
