On September 27, J. Cole dropped his second feature of the week, this time on Tee Gzrizzley's "Blow For Blow." On the song Cole says he's the GOAT just from features. Let's discuss the track! #jcole #teegrizzley #hiphop
Cole is the best rapper alive. And what’s crazy is his feature run started way before 2018 with joints like “Knock Tha Hustle” with Cozz or “Things Change” with Omen. I think around 2018 is when people just started to notice it fr. Even with him backing out of the beef I still think he’s better than Kendrick. And don’t get me wrong I love Kendrick. TPAB is an album that saved my life and I could go on for days. But If we talking about bar for bar as a MC and lyricist putting triple entendres together, schemes, vocal projection etc. Cole is clearing everybody. I can guarantee that Cole been wanting to lock in with Kendrick like how he did what Drake just show everybody. You don’t find it weird how it’s never been a Cole and Kendrick song with them just rapping together? Not just a hook like Forbidden fruit or one rapping over the others like song like “Black Friday” But an actual song to see who is more witty with the pen.
Don't need that... It's just different styles... I'm pretty sure kendrick can throw triple entendres on his music too if he wants so... But his style is just different.. He's more artistic with his delivery and more raw with his bars.. They're both great we don't have to pick one.. It's just that kendrick is Jordan and Cole is magic.. 😉
Bar for bar, I think J Cole has had the best feature run of any rapper ever. The diversity of hip hop subgenres that Cole has been tapping into and successfully bodying the songs is undeniable.
@@gringeroid Okay not gonna disagree, but… Cole been doing a lot of gun talk recently like he ain’t college educated lol folks arbitrarily pick and choose what foolishness is acceptable based on bias.
Cole is bodying every feature. No one is touching in pen. I don't care what people saying about some rap "beef". He doesn't have to attack a fake friend like Kenny to cement himself as GOAT. Some of y'all forget Nas washed Hov with Ether and then he came back with a wack diss and apologized for it because his mom said so. He is still in your top 5 rapper list for some of y'all
I think this song is fire. I never listened to J Cole before I just always heard a lot of hate about him but everything I have heard him on he is fire. I think he is really nice. I mess with him and I can't wait for the fall off now
@@kevink01639 no I heard him and lil boat. I stopped listening to rap for a long time because I didn't like the mumble rap and I'm not a Drake fan. I fell back in love with rap during this battle and all these breakdowns so I have an idea what they are talking about and meaning for the most part
Is every time Cole drops a verse yall gon keep rehashing the battle? Damn lol It was not that deep to me. He didn’t want to diss his friend. Ok cool. Can we talk about the songs? Do yall really like rap? He’s rapping and it’s good!
I have to give it up to J. Cole cause to keep going and each and every time your bars go up and up and up…you can’t deny it that he is one of the best. Salute Rob 🫡
My problem with the big 3 natrative is its based on popularity. If we talking straight bars then guys like King Los, Joyner, absoul, and Locksmith deserve consideration.
Sir no offense I mean this with all the respect no one is checking for King Los, Joyner and Absoul like that they are great rappers but Cole, Dot and Drake can rap so you are wrong
@RobMarkman Do you feel that Cole is sending a message with the features that he is choosing? Saw that theory online. I think features should be icing on the cake
Feature wise? Sure. I give Drake more credit for never ducking smoke with anyone though (unlike Cole) and Kendrick made it clear he’s the king of rap now by washing him
@@Jimmyjones151yes, but strictly who's rapped better out of the big 3, its cole even if we didnt like him backing out for his inner peace. Lowkey i think backing out took more balls, cuz he had to know hed get clowned by doing it. It woulda been easier to just keep running with it and keep being fake knowing he loves Kdot like a brother
On a separate note, can I ask if you would really want Cole to address the beef on The Fall Off like you said? He has been working on this album for 5+ years and it’s highly anticipated, and it seems like it was pretty much finished before the beef. Him diluting the album and detouring from its potential story and message by adding a song or even a verse about the beef may hurt the overall product. I think he should leave the album in its purest form how he originally recorded it, and if he ever does address the beef it should actually be in an interview, as there’s only so much you can get off in a verse.
Grippy wasn’t bad, but honestly the group thinking behavior in rap blogs is what killed Cobain’s project. The entire grippy song is ass. Most of Cobain’s wave is ass. Instead of keeping it a bean, blogs took the easy route and poured the hate onto Cole. 6 features this year - he’s 5/6. How can one listen to any cobain song and think “my this verse was good?!” Fisher was ass too. When the wave finally disappears NY go treat that man like Designer. That grippy feature from Cole will be the highlight of that man career. And every rap blog ruined it by making it seem like Cole destroyed that weak ass song. Cobain ain’t nun to do with it huh?…
And cole was actually spitting bars on that track lol, is it niggas didn’t like the subject matter??? I think that’s what it was.. I respect the verse tho, shit show his range and how he keep hop on anything and adapt
@@MrASAPAB a lot of people agree, but it’s cool to engagement farm and keep all these weird narratives in the eco-system. Rob’s hella credible, but he’s biased against Cole. Every outlet that screamed on Grippy more than they highlighted MDL exposed themselves. Ain’t seen enough “Cole got his masters.. from Hov” talk, grippy banter everywhere. This year has been terrible for hip-hop if not for Dot curb stomping Drake. Cole dropped an independent mixtape with no marketing/fanfare or lead single. Sold 250k 1st 2 weeks and then the media turned the discussion off because of the beef…
@@kierrickedmond Cole backed out of the battle, that’s all anyone needed. He survived years of Cole makes sleepy music and F-J. Cole chants - he’ll be alright. But pay attention to how easy it was for Pump/Purp to create an entire sub-culture of hip-hop built purely on hating what Cole represents…. Dot just dropped an untitled song and said “Folks don’t hate me, they hate the man I represent.” HAS COLE NOT FACED THE SAME CRITICISM? The difference is the Rob Markman’s, the Justin Hunt’s, the Fantano’s don’t do for Cole what they do for Dot. Capes blowing in the breeze! One min, his college fanbase is losers. The next min he’s preachy. Next, he shouldn’t be rapping about this. Next, he should be protesting more. Oh he protesting, well he ain’t protesting hard enough (Noname). Oh he responded, how dare he (Queen tone)? Kendrick responds on MMATBS - NOT ONE PEEP of backlash…. Funny how that works huh…
Hey @RobMarkman I respect your opinions man. Keep up the good work. But let's not fall prey to recency bias. Kendrick's features in the last decade put him much ahead and above J Cole. A few examples (notable for the complex execution and musical risks he took on them): 1. Autum Leaves (feat. by Chris Brown) 2. Fight the Feeling (feat. by Mac Miller) 3. Buried Alive (feat. by Drake) 4. THat Part (Black Hippy remix) I respectfully don't see J Cole beating this small sample of Kendrick's genius. Kendrick simply has more range (see his 2 CHainz collab - Momma I hit a lick). Just my $0.02. Keep it 💯 Sir
A decade is 10 years, sir. Take Care came out in 2011. That is 13 years ago. And Kendrick’s features do not touch Cole’s the past decade. i.e. American Dream, A Lot, The London, Johnny P’s Caddy, All My Life, The Secret Recipe, To Summer From Cole, on the street….the list goes on. Oh and A Plate Of Collard Greens is from this decade I think? More range? Those are all different styles. Radio friendly (All My Life) K-pop (J Hope), r&b, lyrical with soulful samples (Johnny P, Collard Greens), club banger (London), street bangers (A Lot, American Dream). C’mon son! “Cole flow is cold in any genre. With many combinations, shoot like that boy sponsored. By Under Armour, reach, you a goner…” I’ll even add Purple Emoji, No Sleeep w/ Janet Jackson and Pretty Little Fears to my list. His r&b collabs are amazing.
@@papagibbles I think I was wrong to frame it as a recency bias thing. My point still stands that if we did a VERZUZ of their features alone, K dot come out on top.
@@DanieladeyemoYeah man, I disagree. Also forgot to mention Off Deez and Knock Tha Hustle remix. Kendrick has 6 or 7 GOAT features. Cole has like 20. Hell, he’s not even top 3 on 1 Train and Drake got him on Poetic Justice and Fuckin Problems.
Yo Rob, I think you MAY have missed something with the Bruce Jenner line. Cole from the south and we call our aunts, “Aintie”. Idk how to spell it how we pronounce it tho 😂. So the “I’m him, they ain’t” line might be a double E!
It's real real sad how everyone just forgot about Andre 3K's features... I swear on everything I can't name a single verse from him that's below an 8. He has incredibly high highs without Cole's lows, he paints beautiful pictures with his words, he's arguably the most versatile one out of the bunch, his writing in general is impeccable, not to mention his untouchable flow and wordplay game AND he ages better and better... I get that Cole has much more quantity, but to completely leave Andre out of these conversations when his verse on Ross' Sixteen completely wipes some people's discographies? Maaan... Anyhow, loving the work Rob, cheers man! I'm still pumped for The Fall-Off!
Cole don't care lol he just going to run up these features sell his albums and retire and still will be one of the GOATS and Cole don't have to address sh*t.
cole features have been undefeated for a while now... man, i feel stupid af for even trying to knock cole for the apology, but i admit getting caught up with groupthink & the hate bandwagon. he's definitely had missteps with 7 minute drill & grippy, but there is no denying the man's pen. i always loved cole for staying true to himself & what he feels is right. would love to see cole & dot go bar for bar on a 3 track LP.. the 2 best swords in the game today 😭
I respect your transparency and introspection on your videos. However you approach your content moving forward, just your thoughts are pretty insightful.
Feature GOATS? I’d put Weezy at the top, then Busta Rhymes, 2 Chains and Cole can fight for the other slots. Unless you’re talking about recent years, then I could see Cole 💯
this being a hiphop centered platform / pod & the name / intro being " it's just my thoughts " is perfect .. considering the use of the line in Hovs intro on The Rulers Back ( that's what the line always brings me back to lol ) don't deviate from it & don't down play it .. we don't need another name , we here for your thoughts Rob !
Fr fr j cole won the beef Kendrick sounds lost and conflicted hates the state of the culture and hip hop Dake is hiding and putting out unreleased music that didn't make the cut posting selfie J cole out here care free 🙌 😎 🔥
12:51 you probably caught it but Bruce Jenner being an Olympic runner could be an additional reference with the “stay tf out my lane” and “avoid the paint” lines (meaning the pain that separates the lanes in these races).
Wayne’s feature run is still talked about to this day. We’re not talking about this verse or the daylyt verse a year from now. Also can’t leap frog over Nas - Verbal intercourse, eye for an eye, it’s mine, fast life - Nas wasn’t even 30 when he made those.
Cole is definitely an MVP with the features. Similar to how Wayne has been the past couple decades. Like he gets on anyone's record, understands the assignment, elevates the song, and give you bars and/or substance all the way through. I think "Mvp" is the title place him under
Goat from features no way first off this killing features thing from any artist needs some serious debunking most the times they are hearing the other persons verse before they do theirs thats like fighter knowing every move you do beforehand it should be easy top it or surpass it then ppl hear the record and be like man he killed him 😂😂 yea he had the advantage to do so and that's why some of your artist don't Collab cause ppl say this stuff 🤦🏿♂️
I wish youtubers would stop pushing this goat talk. Its old and burnt. just be happy the real Cole is back. RU-vid reactors who blew up from this goat talk are these only ones still milking it
Jay-Z and Jadakiss are 2 quick names I can come up with that have better features. J. Cole might have the title for the current generation, but not all time.
No ! can the fall off be a year old before we shoe horn J.Cole back into GOAT talk? That cole verse is fire but its just bars we need action from Cole we need KOD cole with forest hills pen That apology relegated him from the playoffs. He need bars a message a theme the fall off has to offer all these things at the highest possible level just to re open the debate.
@@ogmac5651Wayne’s verses ehile lyrical he’s just spewing words. That’s the difference between Em, 3K, & Cole from him. Wayne just be talking. He’s spitting but man there is no substance. Just rhymed words.
@@Justcallmenoon what's wild about that? Wayne isn't really putting out consistent music anymore. Cole is still going and more relevant then ever and improving as each feature comes out. No shade to wayne hes still #1 with features but Cole is catching up
"He's gonna have to address backing out of that battle" 🙄 No he does not. He addressed it at Dreamville Festival. Real Cole fans understand that he doesn't have to say anything else concerning the beef. Blow For Blow is fire.
@@RobMarkmanI get your point, but I don't think he'll speak on it soon. he said on Yatch's pod that he doesn't care about the drama, just like he didn't answer the Jada/Will shit
Amongst the big 3, Drakes might be the most impactful for the rapper who features him, but If we’re talking about the most lyrical he’s the best among the 3 of them. Dot rarely ever does features and even when he does it doesn’t have that as much impact as the others. So Cole might be the GOAT of features when it comes to rapping this era. And yeah the battle was between 2 rappers, can’t hold a man that stopped rapping and went to play basketball in Africa to the same standard as the others. I feel he’s the most truthful to himself and people have to respect that
Yes he is a feature goat but this particular Tee grizzley feature doesn’t add to anything. It was a pretty mediocre song in general along with the verse. It’s also interesting he has been completely ghost, before the beef any feature he did he would promote and post on his IG. He hasn’t promoted any of the ones that have recently dropped
I don’t think it’s clever, it just sucks to be shitty to people who didn’t do anything to you. Em did it to prove a larger point, Cole’s just sucks and it taints the rest of the otherwise really good verse.
Kendrick Neutralized Cole too.sorry his features haven’t hit the same since his apology..that’s the Kendrick Lamar effect this page seems to step over …. Ak got Drake ,Dj hed and Joe have Kendrick .now this page has J Cole ..it make sense .you let me down Rob on this gloomy Friday afternoon in Jersey you let me down
@@92kevhe apologised for a leaked version that came out years later. Cole said he couldn’t even sleep after his weak diss towards Kendrick and took it down from DSP’s 😂😂 I like him more than Drake as a rapper but I could NEVER see Drake doing something like that
