Oh yeah, I switched from over 10 years on WordPress to Joomla 5! So loving Joomla 5, with just a couple paid components I added and it's now way better than WordPress. Thanks for your videos, I appreciate it.

No problem, i think the main reason people prefer wordpress is because of the community behind it, but joomla could have the same if more people got on board!

well the thing is the Joomla is the only 100% completelty community driven cms project where the users the community also own everything not like Worstpress or Drupal that have private owners that can sell the project in future or use it to favourice its private companies besides it "community"@@wtwb

Sure, Joomla is free, and so is JoomShaper’s Helix. I paid for Helix Ultimate with SP Pagebuilder Pro. I think it’s around $100 for 3 websites per year. But, isn’t necessary.

I use WP and Joomla, however when a friend asks me about which is better CMS to build a commercial website, I 99% of the time recommend Joomla. Example, You can install multiple languages (no plugins needed like WP) but most importantly, the way SEO works in joomla in my opinion is superior to WP.
@wtwb
@wtwb 10 месяцев назад
I agree, i think sometimes WP is too dependant on a number of different plugin providers, i think J5 is gonna be a big player in eCommerce as well. So it should be good future alternative.
@creatorofimages7925

That's because you probably do not know how and what a SEO actually accomplishes and that's absolutely ok. SEO is good if you want localised search result priorities etc. but if you want high reach, then WP does the same job as you and in the end, you can actually define your own SEO rules, no need to be dependent on WP or Joomla! And by the way: You can increase your own pagerank via a self-programmed python script that imitates one or more browser clients connecting from different IPs and have macros running, that type your website in google search it and click your website, when it is found. I recommend disabling your robots.txt file for that to avoid any blockade just for that purpose and if done re-enabling it. :) Lastly: Don't be too dependent on some Web Design Software, learn how to do it yourself (yes, it takes time but is worth it).

I wouldn’t give SEO tips if you’re referring to black hat SEO. Its the best way to get blocklists and do more damage to your site.

I use Joomla! and write my own scripts and programs for enhancement but I would never dream of writing such a superficial and condescending comment. What do YOU know about the people using WP? One big problem that Joomla! has is that a big part of the community is toxic and thinks they are better. Reality is: Both have their dis-/advantages and that's basically it. Noone is better, just because he/she chooses Joomla! over WP. It's prejudicial and small-minded talk.
@creatorofimages7925

imho joomla has the upper edge over wordpress at least since version 3.5. the only thing that is still better in wordpress is handling, caching and delivering images
@wtwb
@wtwb 11 месяцев назад
That’s interesting, in my experience i think the 2 worse things in Wordpress are the image handling, and Cache. The uploads directory is a complete mess in wordpress, also if you add images manually they don’t show up in media manage unlike joomla which reflects the true results of the image folder, it’s soo much easier to structure and organise files into seo friendly hierarchical folders. Cache is really down to the plugins you use. Also as a bonus disadvantage also how every plugin runs on both admin and site majority of times seems flawed, and the database storing everything under posts table.

In this video all I used was the default Joomla theme "cassiopeia" which should be the one when you install it. the grid was done by using the article module, which displays articles from a specific category. Does Joomla have some tools to create something that is called 'Custom post types' with custom set of fields in WordPress to jump of beyond simple articles? Like Custom Post Type UI or PODS something similar? Because tools like 'component creator' for Joomla or something similar - have bad UX
@wtwb
@wtwb 9 месяцев назад
Component creator can be used that way, but ideally its actually used for building custom components, so youd use it to create like booking systems, custom user database, and crms, in Joomla the alternative to wordpress custom post types is just using categories. All your pages will sit centrally under articles, but when you create a page in your menu instead of having archive-posttype you can just have an article category list, and if you want a custom template on that, create an override in your template/html folder then your menu you can just choose that overridden layout

Joomla is much better as a technoloty - designed with OOP, MVC everywhere, well structured extensions, much more hooks and 2-3 times more features (in base installation) compared to WP. BUT WP has: 1. 10 time more plugins. 2. 50 times more free plugins. 3. a lot of "cheap" web-developers on the market 4. WP doesn't change UI each 3-5 years - very important for clients. I personaly bet on WP, as it is more frinedly to the end client.

@SquareballoonCoUk
@SquareballoonCoUk 5 месяцев назад
I have found Joomla developers to be cheaper than WP. There are more free plugins because WP forces that. But the paid plugins are generally more expensive. Generally the WP ecosphere is bigger so they have more, but I've found components in Joomla that I couldn't in WP, so it's worth knowing both options. I've generally found support better in Joomla and less glitches from major Joomla component creators (and more appetite to fix them quickly).
@Hackwar
@Hackwar 5 месяцев назад
The thing is, you also need 10 times less plugins to achieve the same result. Why would I need 10 times more plugins/50 times more free plugins, when all of those only do what Joomla ships with out of the box? Regarding the UI: Joomla has stuck to the same UI for 10 years (during the 3.x versions) and only has made some changes with the release of 4.0, with no intentions to change everything again any time soon.

As a user i am screaming "Stay away from the Joomla!". I cannot stress enough how bad the compatibility of this cms is. It can (and it will) break at updates, you will probably need to rebuilt your website between major updates and sometimes even minor. Even build in functions will bug for no apparent reason. If you do not have a full time developer behind, stay away! As a developer Ill probably say go for Joomla. Sometime I will get paid for updates, add functions or move you to another cms.

WordPress can also have similar problems. I think the main issue here is more so the developer who builds the site. building a website which is reliant on plugins can always cause issues, and without a strong support network often can lead to delays or issues when updating. WordPress has less of this issue because of the size of the community. Id say useability sometimes customers find Joomla easier, but also on the opposite end they find wordpress easier... it's really just a preference.

Does anyone know if it's possible to build custom pages on Joomla using HTML, CSS, and JS... or is that difficult because maybe Joomla is structured too much on using page templates and components? Thank you! : )
@wtwb
@wtwb 7 месяцев назад
Joomla is designed to be able to do this, within any template there is an HTML folder which can be used to create seperate templates of different components. All menu items run from a component view, and these views can be uniquely overridden in your templates, so realistically if you have a single article menu type, you can create an override and fully just use html, php, css and js to build the page how you like to. Would a video on this help explain it?

@@wtwb Hi and thank you very much! To get right into my idea: I have for a while wanted to have a web presence of some kind that is as follows: An e-commerce site that doesn't dispatch digital products via download (because it's too easy for digital products like that, like a PDF or image set for example, to be passed around for free after it's purchased). Rather, the website should have previews on the pre-login pages, and once a user/customer logs in as a paid member, they can view the content in its full form. The content in this case would be animated comic books. You can use HTML, CSS, and JS, to load a background theme on the product page, turn the pages, and in each page, for each panel of the comic, the panels are to be animated. The animations are not very big, but rather, maybe 10-second looping animations in MP4 format (since I think GIF format is much larger). So, to summarize: customer logs in, clicks on a comic to read, and can interact with it by toggling background music, turning pages, and again, the panels are looping videos of maybe 10 seconds or so (there is no audio other than the background theme, which can be toggled on or off). It would also be nice if there was a play/pause button to go from animated comic to still comic. Lastly, it would be nice if there was a way to block right-clicking on the website and to block print screen, too (once again to try and deter piracy). That's what I've been thinking of doing but I don't know what platform is best and if it's worth it because selling digital products on a website I think is more costly than just doing it via Amazon or Gumroad, no? Thanks again!

First, I can't imagine any serious client be satisfied with the admin UI, it's obviously better then it was before, but it's still horrible and nowhere near intuitive and easy to use WP dashboard. However, all of this doesn't really matter, because seeing the market share for both WordPress and Joomla, this is not a serious competition to be honest. The only thing they are capable of (except for some competent people) is reciting solutions, that have been posted in English forums and being assholes to people who just started out with it and ask for help in the DE forum. A complete shitshow, so to speak. If anyone German here seeks assistance: Don't visit the DE forum, it's full of self-perceived Web Developers a.k.a. people that forked the Joomla! Your opinion is valid but I’m taking it you’re someone who doesn’t really understand how to code. This comparison is done this way because it’s been matched to the way the Joomla is built. If i built then 2 different ways then it’s not gonna be fair. There are both simpler ways to build on both platforms. This is just the route I’ve used for this video. To say Joomla is dead is plain ignorance because we can see the millions of sites still using it. If you compare to wordpress the market share is far less, but compared to other CMS it’s not. I appreciate if you think you can do a better comparison please do. I encourage a better conversation about both especially if you think your knowledge is superior. Thanks for your comment and view

Well said. But in my opinion, people who choose a CMS platform like WordPress, do not want to code, if you want to code the whole website there are far better options than WordPress or Joomla. Like Laravel which is PHP like WordPress and others. I mean if you want to code the whole website why not go with MEAN /MERN Stack which is better, faster, and more secure than WordPress or Joomla. WordPress is popular because it has been a no-code platform almost from the beginning of the WordPress. And it is their main selling point. Also, I want to mention that it is easier for to client to manage. Also, the hater's main point is that the plugin update breaks the website which rarely happens these days unless you are using a plugin that has not been updated by its developer in like 3/4 years. I can do a deep dive into this topic. My main point is Now WordPress is a multi-functional platform and you can design and build any kind of website using WordPress and Page Builder also its plugin repo is far superior then Joomla. And yes I know Joomla also has a page builder but do you really want to compare Joomla's page builder with WordPress's Elementor/Bricks/Brizy? Because they are far far better than Zoomla's builder. @@wtwb

@@wtwb great video! i have been using joomla from years ago and i have been using wordpress last years and sincery if someone said something like this persona said is why people use wordpress cause they dont have many knows about tecnical issues or code or whatever. you can use joomla perfectly if you dont have idea of code, you have yootheme and they have the same templates for wordpress and joomla the same builder and you can desing in the same level. and another thing, im a seo, i have a lot of clients positioned inthe first results of google and never never never i had any of my wordpress before of any of my joomlas. the estructure of joomla is just native for the seo, the way u use the metadatas, the menus, the estructure of categories, the images, urls, etc...i cant explain everuthing in a good english but i could talk lonnng about tecnical issues between wordpres and joomla cause i used the 2 cms in spanish. and yes, you dont have to use laravel or angular, or phyton or whatever cause you can use wordpressor joomla and just code any issues, i use to do that, i shell my time, the life is easier in this way!

@@varabitwebdesign You will have to code on both CMS. WP is just making a better illusion that you don't need codding

@@varabitwebdesign this is very wrong and false biased assumption of a person that doesnt know anything about Joomla and how Joomla works. "--its plugin repo is far superior then Joomla" lol what do you mean?? Joomla has a lot of more extensions types Worstpress ie plugins than WP and can manipulate much more bcs of its MVC and development framework type Cake/Symphony like.

I spent YEARS developing sites & extensions on Joomla. I chose Joomla over WP in 2008 because it was easier to do create custom templates then with Joomla. I stayed with Joomla waaaaaaay too long. The core J team is a hot mess and product development languished since 2013. So many parts of the codebase was friggin undocumented. After years of frustration, I jumped ship to WP in 2019. Quickly I realized how much time and money I had lost f*&^%$g around with Joomla. Wordpress is not perfect but it's a real functional product that I can build on. Joomla is for people playing around or people who like the idea of Joomla but don't have to put real sites into production and support demanding frontend and backend users. The title of this vid is a joke suggesting that there is even a comparison to be made between Wordpress and Joomla. Joomla is too little, too late.

@@wtwb You're a content creator. I'm a developer. Joomla didn't "hurt" me. I did it to myself by staying too long. I know I sound like a battered wife. That d*&n crappy azz codebase battered me. 🤣

Content creator, developer, business owner.. I’ve been doing this for years. Im not even bias, i use both wordpress, joomla, drupal and other CMS, you might want to look more into the code base, it’s a lot better in J5 than previous versions. I can say from experience, security is better in j5 than wp, and so is the ability to extend it. Wordpress is a lazy framework, which isnt a bad thing considering people all the people out there with tiktok brain, not to mention the need to compete with wix, squarespace, shopify and other proprietary cms. I get where your coming from but you shouldnt be so closed minded. Its the one of the best frameworks for building custom software for organisations apart from laravel.

@@wtwb"Wordpress is a lazy framework" Dude, I'm talking CMS. If I'm going the framework route then sure Laravel is nice. Also regarding security, any cms has to be hardened based on the project. Look at the number of vulnerabilities, publish time and time-to-patch of J vs WP. You're not talking to a newbie here. I know how crappy Joomla is as an org and project. You might say that it's cleaned up its act, stopped drinking and got a job but check the charts everyone has moved on and there's really no reason to come back. Maybe I miss having to write my own extensions all the time or settle for some sub-optimal crap because nobody is developing for Joomla anymore. Classic chicken and egg scenario. Or maybe I miss trying to get a straight answer from the core team about something that should be basic functionality but is designed idiotically. You can be a Joomla hero if you want. I've been there and done that. You can have my cape.

Well from my experience I’ve seen the people and businesses still needing support in it, and that shows a good reason to continue. i dunno why it has to be a Wordpress or Joomla world when it can be a Joomla and Wordpress world. Ive got some videos coming up showing how easy Joomla can be. So if you wanna take a second thought stick around. If not i acknowledge developers will make their own choice, tbh most developers out there laugh at anyone using a framework built on PHP, even when it still has a monopoly on web technology… you cant please everyone with so many options. so each to their own i guess
