I finally broke down and got my first bottle of Joseph Magnus Cigar Blend Bourbon. The high price tag scared me, and many others, away from purchasing it. Can this whiskey live up to its hefty price tag? Let's dive in!
I admit, I am not usually a big "Cigar Batch/Blend" fan. They tend to use amburana casks and can be overpowering. I was drawn to this bottle, because they do not use those barrels. It's finished in armagnac, sherry, and cognac barrels. Check out the full episode to see how this one tastes!

Hi there, Master Blender Nancy Fraley here. Loved your review! Just wanted to say that the ages of the Bourbon in batch #152 are actually 8 year, 16 year, and 20 years old, using both the 36% MGP and Barton's from KY. The light color is coming from some barrels that spent their maturation life high up in the rick house. Also, the only real finish is in the Armagnac barrel. I add a small amount of the regular JMB Triple Cask to the overall blend, which all then goes into the Armagnac cask.

Absolutely agreed on the Peerless DO, that’s a monster of a finished bourbon for ~$90. I’ve got multiple batches of Cigar Blend from 23 all the way up to 130 and I love them all. At this point I don’t think I’d buy another bottle until my current bottles are empty but it’s a flavor bomb that doesn’t disappoint if you’ve got the cash to blow on a finished bourbon. Great review!

I have batch #93 that is fantastic. I picked up Old Elk Cigar Cut and Starlight Cigar Batch, which are good, but no comparison to Joseph Magnus. 🥃

I enjoyed the OE, but Starlight was too much sweetness and flavor. Also, it sours in the glass after a few minutes. I enjoyed the JM, but the pricing is just too high for me.

Thanks! I’ve seen these a bit more often for retail in recent months. Maybe they are making more? Or, maybe people are finding out exactly what I did - it’s just not worth the price point. 🤷‍♂️

This blows away Peerless Double Oak IMO. I’ve had 4-5 different batches of JM Cigar Blend and they are all amazing in their own way. Great channel - Cheers!!

For a bottle that costs that much, I would always try it first (if possible). That’s my philosophy, but there’s also something to be said about the thrill of tasting an expensive bottle for the first time. 🤷‍♂️
