less moving parts is always better!

This is probably one of the absolutely best explanations of bearing versus journal and it's relation to spool. THANK YOU!

Very interested to see what you can do with the carbon wheels. Exciting stuff!

yeah gonna be awesome. we are going to dyno it vs the same exact unit with billet compressor and share the results. there will be a whole video about that very soon !

This is why I'm still going journal bearing on my future turbo for my k24 civic awd. Journal bearing lasts longer too because of that extra oil between the shaft and cartridge, it cools down the internal temps of the turbo, less vibration as well because the extra oil acts as a shock absorber. Correct me if I'm wrong.

lol you are wrong mate. this video explains why ball bearing is better in the long run. but it also explains why journal bearing is not bad, and is not gonna spool any longer or slower than ball bearing. performance wise - they are the same. reliability wise - yes ball bearing has it's advantages in the long run. This video was intended to provoke the misconception that journal bearing turbos are not good or has a slower spool time. and show the difference between ball and journal bearing systems.

@@IchibanEngineering ah okay, thank you for correcting me. I don't know why people always say journal bearing are worse and spool slower. Me personally I love journal bearings for the price and still perform like a ball bearing just depends on the impeller like you said and turbine wheel. I've seen too many Ball bearing turbos just grenading..

This is not even a debate i can’t believe ppl are making debates about this! After years of trial and error this is why we make bearings for the exact reason on whats going on with journal bearing metal rubbing on metal wearing out parts! Now when you elevate that shaft and catch in the middle with a (bearing) what it’s exactly designed for to spin its inner race while outter staying still holding shaft elevated away from the shaft thus rotating shaft not wearing out! If anyone knows bearings is that there are really smooth and take no effort to spin and spin and spin and keep a rotating mass spinning for minutes on end effortlessly! This is not even a ? You know why they make journal bearings cause the cheap companies prbly 3 guys in india pouring castings into sand need less parts to build keeping overhead down. Its the cheap companies that make journal bearings!

I agree on some parts. But as far as why some companies produce journal bearings still, is to save the costs. The ball bearing that I hold in that video cost about a $100 a piece. So two of them + making a special bearing sleeve it adds up. If i were to advise to a end user, go with a ball bearing %100. On heavy trucks however, where huge turbos are used, or marine equipment, journal bearing is more suitable. The reason being that : 1. the larger the ball bearing the higher the costs - and on these size units the costs are sky high 2. larger ball bearings can not go to high speeds like smaller ball bearings, they will fail and currently there is no solution for that. So on really large units, I am not talking about cars or any private truck, but industrial machinery , journal bearing is still used.

Hi, how much does it cost approximately this carbon fiber turbine wheel for a CT26 turbo ?
