Avaa. It’s funny how different this feels from Donda. That was such an exciting roll out. He felt more relevant than ever. This rollout has been defined by an overwhelming feeling of guilt while listening hahahaha.
@@uchromia it did, Peggy produced a couple tracks, I’ll be honest though it’s hard to hear his sound stick out of the over arching project but maybe that was the point
AVAA. After listening to the album multiple times, Professor Skye. M-erF-er did it again. The album feels like Yeezus to me, but somewhere in between a Redemption Arc, Midlife Crisis and Divorce Album. He's letting us know regardless of his atrocious antics in the last year and half, he is here to Stay, apparently he is drowning in Genetic Pools way too often in this record which somehow adds to Divorce and Midlife Crisis narrative. We are able to observe spurts of empathy and Beg for Forgiveness in the tracks but then in Kanye Fashion, he crash the sandcastle he builds with his braggadocio but hey, YE IS BACK! AAAAAAAAAHH. (YEEZUS PART DEUX - EPISODE TITLE)
Another thoughtful video Professor! ✌️❤️ Just want to say the minimalism of 808s is what made the bombast of MBDTF even more compelling. I agree this Listening Party wasn’t as extravagant, but if it had been it would’ve taken away from how cool the elaborate and exceptional and maximalist DOnDA listening parties were.
love your reviews! not many honest reviews without bias out there.... by the way, the number ONE at the back should be inspired by a japanese film 'Ichi the killer' by Takashi Miike at 2001. greetings from the other side of the globe in hong kong.
avaa! heads up tho, mike dean was at the New York listening party and you said in the next video you’ll discuss “what does kanye do without mike dean?” but he was around for making this album. side note: so was jpemafia. he has 4 production credits
AVAA! Glad you mentioned the detail about the Jason Vorhees lore. To add on to that, using a photo of a ye showing himself as a horror monster is super interesting to me given the genre's history of villainizing Disability/mental illness. That's even more interesting to me considering the younger white woman (who are often the "victims" in most horror media) placed naked across from him while ye is protected and insulated in clothing and masks, hiding his skin and holding no weapons. I think the cover is juxtaposing this humanizing familial relationship with the dehumanizing "othering" of Disabled/mentally-ill people in media and with how black men in America are seen by media as predators of white women. I haven't heard much of the music, so idk if the content relates back to this (maybe says something about how public image and dehumanization bleeds into his private life? Or vice versa?) Either way I thought it was worth mentioning, looking forward to the review!
Surprised you didn't point out that Donda LP1 performance had a similar minimalist approach with different color palette. This is just Vultures LP1 so i expect things to ramp up in terms of design
Hey skye, I just wanted to let you know that for some reason there is no audio coming from the left channel. Idk if this is something you can fix in post or would require you to reupload but I would really appreciate it if you could resolve this issue. Much appreciated, I assume this is yet another AVAA
I actually felt like his fit was super of the era for ye. he has been really into the enlarged look and his silhouette is similar to the round puffer. he said he ripped up 5 leather jackets to design what he was wearing, his boots btw are called bunny boots. military grade snow boots essentially. he's leaning far into to utilitarian to the point that its actually counter utilitarian. i actually never got a horror or evil villian vibe until the mask and then the whole fit really seemed purposeful
Thank you for acknowledging him as the greatest artist alive it makes me happy to hear that after all the hate I’ve seen him get recently. I’m not saying the hate isn’t warranted but I don’t like when people downplay his artistry because of his antics.
it’s a difficult situation, for Jewish people, and Jewish Kanye fans etc. and he is still a great artist which is why we need discussion like this instead of hate
I really miss the days of hiphop using Soulful / Motown type samples, with a more stripped down approach to production. The majority of this album wasnt to my taste but "Burn" offered a glimmer of hope for the future. It reminds me of the early Kanye tracks and that definitely isnt a bad thing.
when i was in high school and thought i would be a successful artist id tell my friends like like wearing a mask makes you like a deity or concept cause having a face with flaws makes you human cause of goblin era tyler the creator
8:20 - "HE HAD HIS PHONE IN HIS BACK POCKET." We have to keep our idols close. Ye has talked before about the dangers of technology and social media. He's clearly not at his best.
Kanye is putting his life into what he sees as a villain arch …… he got his teeth restructured on the caps to make himself look like jaws lmfao …. Surprised you didn’t mention it
Avaa. I’ve given it one listen. I can’t give him more than that. I am a previous Kanye West Stan and a Jewish man living in America. imo this is the worst and most dangerous pop album ever made. His mental illness, antisemitism, white supremacy now feels normalized. Because he made an album that’s basically a throw back to lots of the good stuff he’s done before. Without any mention of his hate speech except for one awful line. He’s already for sure contributed to hundreds of acts of violence against Jewish people. And likely hundreds/thousands more.
Worst and dangerous pop album made??? Man you bugging. You obviously putting his recent speeches into this review… when you listen to this album it’s an experience. Is it really commercial? No. But anyone who admires art who admire this work of Kanye.. I haven’t heard any album with this serious instrumentals.
@@fost5956 yea it’s beautifully produced. Has some tracks that could be hits (Paid, Hoodrat, Good/Don’t Die- just to name a few). IMO it’s his best album since MBDTF. Never liked Yeezus and thought both Dondas were trash. That’s what makes this album so dangerous imo. Is that it’s good and listenable. Previously his BS hate speech was easy to ignore because of his clear mental illness. What he was putting out was so awful, it reinforced his mental illness to the public. This album doesn’t feel like that. It feels put together by a sane man. Who isn’t taking any accountability or responsibility for the hate he’s put forth into the World
whatever you say he's clearly not a white supremacist, however much his statements may endorse any form of white supremacy his whole existence has been to break whole through the wall of white hegemony, thats literally what he embodies and he's one of the only, if not maybe the only rapper to do it on his own terms.
He's wearing a mask bc he has no idea who he is and when he is seen in public and treated as he is, it only increases his confusion. Besides displaying psychotic behavior he is going thru a middle age crisis. Remember what Dylan was doing when he was 45.
As someone who was a Kanye fan up until the peak of his antisemite comments. I had stopped listening cause I had heard it all so much, and secretly was hoping the new album would be good. I listened and wow it was actually the worst songs ive ever heard from him it's crazy I hated it. The music just isn't enjoyable for me.
The album was about you. You guys are the vultures lol as an artist you should have caught on to that, everybody with criticism go and do it better if you have those critiques go and perfect what you saw as imperfect stop profiting off the downfall of men in general
That jacket is a custom balenciaga bomber jacket. He covered the logo in black, removed the zipper flap and the collar. Bro do your research better next time.
Why judge wrongfully??? It’s sad to define people…. Is it your call to judge. Allow the man to bounce back the way he know how…. How do you feel about the people trying to steal his IP’s? Imma say this when men revile your name it’s only because your blessed… yeah your trying to shame sir… whatever it lacks he’ll edit. Or simply don’t watch…. Wait you need the attention so less talking about Ye day.
"Ye is not antisemitic" I'm not one to tell people not to listen to an artist for their beliefs, but saying he's not antisemitic is delusionally stupid
