I'm Jason, a full-time British Travel Vlogger and RU-vidr who's been to 61 countries. I've been travelling around the world full-time since 2017.
I have travel series' from many of the world's best (and least) known destinations. I filmed the first vlogs on my channel in the summer of 2016 after spending a year living in China. A proper solo trip around Eastern Europe followed after graduating from University in the summer of 2017, taking me to Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, North Macedonia and Kosovo. This marked the start of my efforts to turn vlogging into a full-time job.
After that European trip I explored much of Asia: visiting India, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Pakistan, the Philippines, South Korea and Kazakhstan.
I have also travelled to North Africa and the Middle East fairly extensively over the last five years, filming videos in Turkey, Algeria, Tunisia, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Israel and Palestine.
I've travelled to North America just once as a RU-vidr, visiting Mexico in 2021. Though I have been to both the USA and Canada, this was as a child on family holidays.
In 2022, I took my first trip to Sub Saharan Africa, visiting Kenya and Tanzania, before heading to the Middle East, stopping in Dubai and Lebanon. Europe followed, covering both the Greek and Turkish sides of Cyprus, and afterwards going back to Italy for the second time to cover Milan and Sicily. I then visited the Caribbean for the first time, covering the Dominican Republic, before heading to both Brussels and Amsterdam, then covering Taiwan and the Philippines in Asia. I finished off the year with a trip around Morocco.
I started my travels in 2023 by finally visiting Paris, taking the Eurostar from London. I then headed over to Qatar for a few days, before heading to Asia, with videos following from India, Singapore, Taiwan, Japan, Mongolia, Thailand and Sumatra (Indonesia). I began 2024 by revisiting Bangladesh.

Seems you enjoyed your stay in Kolkata. You tried to show the soul of Kolkata instead of most videos by foreigners where they only see filth, dirt, crowded street and honking cars. It was refreshing to see the city from a foreigners view who enjoys traveling and capturing the beauty.

How could you miss the filth snd dirt from the beginning to the end? I am born and brought up in Kolkata and feel ashamed to say we Kolkatans know how to abuse our beloved city by throwing garbages allover. And wait for others to keep it clean! Certainly the filthiest city.

@batayangosh it's identity shame, which makes one feel inferior than others and over critical and sometimes they feel worthless. It's sad, it usually leads to negative though patterns and not notice the positivity. Not a good thing. Maybe you can try to learn more about Kolkata/Bengal ,read various books . This soil has given birth to some of the greatest achievers 😊. Feel proud of yourself please.

@@olyviaray5667 Fact and opinion are two different things. Certainly, I am not ashamed of my identity. I've mentioned the fact that the Kolkata people and our leaders are not educated enough to keep the city clean. Otherwise, it’s an international standard city with all modern amenities available. Probably that is the reason why Jason used the title “Is Kolkata the most underrated city?” For the last twenty years, I’ve been traveling around the globe. I absolutely feel proud as an Indian and as a Bengali. Rabindra Nath Thakur is always in my heart. I understand how people from other countries respect India and Indians for their spiritualism and knowledge of math and science. I am completely proud of myself for who am I, and what I do today. But one thing which I never understand is how Kolakatans learned how to ignore dog shit or garbage on roads and keep walking with the impression that everything is normal. Forget about cities in the US, just go to Bangkok, even they learned in last twenty or thirty years how to manage a megacity keep the roads clean. We Bengalis are such snobbish people, most of us are good in bookish knowledge, and we are probably the laziest in the world, conceited about our art and culture and completely oblivious about keeping our beloved city clean. After reading your comment, I can only think about the character of Dhritiman in the movie Agantuk. Long ago when I watched the movie as a young guy, I didn’t understand when Utpal Dutta told his grandson not to be a “Kupamanduk”. I know the practical meaning of that word now. I recommend why don't you watch the other city tours posted in Jason's channel, hopefully you would feel less pompous about your own identity!!!🙂

I love Bengali Cinema particularly films of Satyajit Ray, Mrinal Sen, Ritwik Ghatak, Tapan Sinha, Rituparno Ghosh and Aparna Sen. You must watch these 5 great Bengali 60s films 1) Kanchenjunga (1962) 2) Deya Neya (1963) 3) Charulata (1964) 4) Thana Theke Aschi (1965) this film was like Witness for Prosecution (1957) 5) Nayak: The Hero (1966) I also love Bengali pop rock music like Mohiner Ghoraguly, Chandrabindoo, Fossils, Anupam Roy, Somalata Chowdhury, Lalon Band, James, Ayyub Bachhu, Arman Alif, Miles, Baul Sukumar etc etc. I have a playlist of more than 200 great Bengali pop rock songs from West Bengal and Bangladesh.

The problem is tourists don't visit the Southern part of the city. That is where most of the middle class Bengalis reside. North & Central Kolkata gives a different view of the city. It reflects the traditional side of the city. Somehow I believe the cultural epicenter has shifted to South Kolkata.

Very interesting video. Kolkata is not only India's most under-rated city but probably the most under-rated mega city in the world. On the GPO building in this video, the structure you showed was not built in 1777 but in 1868. The Indian postal service ( GPO ) started out of Ford William by the Maidan in Kolkata in 1777. The Indian postal service is possibly the most complex and yet rather efficient in the world.

Recently underwater metro rail opened running beneath the river. I believe, a big chunk of crowd is taking the underground transit system. I'm surprised to see you have never mentioned or never taken the underground metro rail even once, instead of Uber. Metro is the most convenient way to go places in Kolkata. It's a nice, clean, comfortable, modern rapid transit system and much cheaper than taking a cab.

during the British Raj 200 million to 250 million people Indians were killed. most of them killed by artificially engineered famines others were killed directly. before leaving they did partition of India which cost more than 1 million lives, created an almost permanent enemy for india and gave the power to their agents which became government of India. then that government gave away 120000 sqm of more India's land to neighbouring countries like it was their own properties. they also made the highly Indian distorted history written by British of India as official one and continued British education system which was designed to control the population without trying to revive ancient Indian education system which focused on raising human consciousness like no other culture ever had. puppet Indian govts over the years sent India's wealth Britain and to their bank accounts in Europe which in the past decade have changed drastically in india and first time it is looking like a nation which is trying to break the shackles.

Underrated 🤔🤔 oh ya !! It was India's capital during the colonial era.... City has developed a lot without losing it's old culture and charm ... The more you spend your time there , the more you start loving the city . It has immense potential to grow, but due to prolonged tussles between the state and central government the city is on the backfoot these days ,thus falling in an underrated zone 😂

the Victoria Memorial is named after Queen Victoria. she ruled over India for Much of 19th century. during this time tens of millions of Indian were starved to death by british in artificially induced famines all over India. from 1880 to 1920 they killed 165 million Indians significant portion of that happened in the rule of Victoria. it was under her rule that the first war of India's Independence 1857 happened and the aftermarth of that at least 10 million Indians were killed by the British under the watch of Victoria.

India was the richest place for the most part of human civilization. even 300 years ago India was the richest place in the world after which the Brits looted 50 trillion usd in today's money, created tension between different community by playing divide n rule and split the country into pieces without settling the border. country has had 5 wars since independence because of border issue with neighbouring countries in invading. last 1000 years India never had a 50 your period when it was never invaded/ruled by foreigners. because of these things Government of India has to spend large amount of its budget in defence.

it was planned by British to split India. after first war of independence in 1857 where all community of Indian fought against the British together British started divide and rule in India between people. very strategically split India before going. present day Pakistan was the route by which India is to trade with Arab countries for thousands of years. present day Bangladesh was the route through which India East used to trade with South Asian countries for thousands of years. both were gone so now India has become like an Island where all trade being done by sea not land. also before going Brits had their puppet governments in charge of both countries India and Pakistan so that there is always fight with between the two countries and they Never grow.

up to 200 million people died in British induced famines over the years in India. there was an untold holocaust which caused the deaths of almost 10 million people over 10 years beginning in 1857, after the first independence movement of India. at least 100k people were killed in Delhi. total population including small children of many small towns and villages which took part in the movement were eliminated. many forests were completely burnt including tribal people inside it. unfortunately Brits were the ones who have written Indian history. so these things are very much hidden

Gems of West Bengal Police yesterday during Ram Navami Processions: - Stops people from recording atrocities against Hindus. - Relaxes when bombs are falling on Hindus. - Threatens handles with legal cases for posting the atrocities - Gets openly called "biased" by the High Court - Refusing to receive FIR - But, it's way too shameless to be affected by it.

I don't know how many are going to believe me but here's the truth: I've studied in Kolkata, have lived in Kolkata, am appointed as a substantive faculty in a college affiliated to the University of Calcutta; travel through Calcutta twice-thrice EVERY WEEK, come to the CU for univ scripts verification and whatnot, my wife has a govt job pretty much 40 mins away from Victoria Memorial. YET, this is THE FIRST TIME I'm seeing the interiors of this place! 😅

That Victoria Memorial is a sign of colonialism - don't get me wrong, I studied in a Christian missionary school in Kolkata and have fond memories of my childhood but the Victoria memorial is a sign of millions of rupees stolen from India to build a monument for Queen Victoria. Totally unnecessary imposition on a poor country.

Kolkata itself is british if you do not know its story ... before that it was an uncivilized village ... britishers made this town , gave you modern education , otherwise you would be cleaning toilet of marathis by now . Kolkata is made by brittain
