Two treasure hunters are hot on the trail of $2 million worth of Confederate gold bullion that went missing in the 1800s. Four years of research leads them to believe it's buried under Lake Michigan.

They'll never find that $140,000,000 worth of Confederate gold ... unless they look inside my garage northeast of Muskegon, MI. FYI: I'm the guy who also found the Forrest Fenn treasure box .. but I won't admit it.

If some gold from the cache turned up at a coin show.... would it stand to reason that it's not in the lake ?

Michigan would spend $2,000,000 of tax money a week looking for the 2,000,000 in gold

I've known about the Abbot family in the "Unsolved Mysteries" TV series way back in d '80s. Who buried some gold treasures(Confederate gold), including jewelries in Lake Michigan in the 19th Century. & treasure hunters became crazy searching for it for decades.

I think you're right about that! It's most likely near the shoreline though, if it's even still lost. I don't care how much they bribed, it'd be difficult to find a ferryboat pilot who would set out with a train car, *loaded with gold* on the size of waves that were reported that night. Besides, one of the supposed conspirators (a union general who was friends with the Confederate general in charge of the gold) opened a bank shortly thereafter.

I know where that gold went. The last know men who were protecting it when Davis got captured split it up. A friend of mine has an ancestor that was broke before the war and after suddenly became very wealthy. How can that happen??? He got a portion of that gold!!!

So Dykstra has handed over the reigns of the search to the State? Or is he still leading the search with the States involvement? Why would he give up on his quest after so much work himself?

If he got the gold to Michigan, why not keep it, put it in his basement or attic or something? Why put it on a boxcar and send it out across Lake Michigan? Judah Benjamin confiscated a large amount of Confederate gold when he escaped to Cuba and on to UK after the surrender. I believe some of it was taken by Confederates escorting Jefferson Davis and some is still buried near Irwinville.

Whats fishy is if he was told about this gold back in the 70's why would it take 35 to 40 yrs to get moving on it? I could see maybe 10 yrs stretching it out for research or funding but 35 yrs makes me not want to believe. Fyi.......back in the 1960's someone told me where the ark of the covenant was......I think about that information often, one day I should look into it......lol

If that gold is from Georgia its quite possible it belonged to the Cherokee, I don't see how it would belong to the state of Michigan since it was stolen from Georgia. The Civil War was not that long ago. My grandfather's grandfather was in the Civil War.

This is a hokey tv show, riding the wave of Oak Island. / It was easy for me to research and find out what happened to the Confederate treasury. It was dispersed at various points for various debts. The yanks got none of it and none went to Michigan. The trail ended in Florida and there wasn't much left to divide up. Its the CSA archives that are missing and that would be the real treasure.
@truckerenoch8824

I'm skeptical of the story too, but ...If the archives are "missing" how can you (and others) claim to know 100% of the facts?

Minty was no where near the capture of Davis. He never worked for any railroad in Georgia, nor the railroad in Ohio that is alleged in this video. He was also living in Arizona at the time they claim this gold was in a box car going over Lake Michigan, so clearly he'd have had no reason to be moving this mythical gold around Michigan. It's a fun story based on zero actual facts. Troopers from his old regiment, the 4th Michigan, participated in the capture, but Minty was a brigade commander then, and was over 100 miles away at the time. The regiment was then being commanded by Col. Benjamin Pritchard.

Joe Gannon r u the guy looking for the la' griffon?
@joegannon1311
@joegannon1311 6 лет назад
But you see, that's another fallacy of their story. Rand Bitter, who wrote a biography of Minty that followed his whole life, not just his military career, says the brother-in-law George Abbot dropped dead one day in his house, thus making the "death bed confession" a bit ridiculous. I think their whole theory is them having a theory, that Confederate gold in in Lake Michigan, and then trying to twist things to fit their theory. Evidence should lead to a theory, not the other way around.

The answer is loud and clear NO! Annoying fake-show, created to make real money. Your money. Read book, fellows. That’s much more „productive“.
@joegannon1311
@joegannon1311 6 лет назад
Minty was a fascinating character, and not all of it in a good way, though this "Confederate gold" story has nothing to do with that. He was an excellent civil war cavalry leader, but his personal life after the war was less than admirable. He had an affair with his wife's sister, living a double life with two families with those sisters for years before being found out. I wrote an article about him here: thewildgeese.irish/profiles/blogs/robert-horatio-george-minty-past-imperfect-hero
