During WW2 the Baltic states tried to be neutral. As you can notice, that didn't work out. The next time we go down, there will be no occupation. There will be nothing to left occupy, we go down with the country. Same as Ukraine. We will decide our own fate, whatever it takes.

Thx for this outlook of our history. But one explanation should be pointed out about Livonians. Before missionaries came to region, there where already early state formations of Baltic and Finougric peoples established in present day Latvian territory. Germans came first into contact with Livonians, who lived near the coast, and gave their name to whole region, now Latvian and Estonian lands. Baltic speaking Latgalians merged with other Baltic peoples and Livonians, forming modern day Latvians. Latgalians are still a prominent subgroup of Latvia today.

Nice, you almost got the history right. The only thing that was wrong is that Livonians aren't former Latvians. Livonians were a Balto-Finnic ethnic group living in Latvian territory (mostly by the sea and largest rivers).

I guess he meant Livonians as inhabitants of Livonia not as nation Livs name.

Hi Pedro, I'm so happy you have got the History right. There are almost no people able to mention that Poland was invaded in September 1939 by Soviet Union as well. Needless to say that for Soviet Russia Second World War has started only in June 1941. Russians all are affected heavily up to day by propaganda infuence where Joseph Goebbels could take his lectures.

Truly an amazing history listen. I’m a Texan and this kind of history isn’t typically on our radar. Because just Texas alone is bigger than so many European countries, we forget how these smaller countries get or got bullied. Just like Ukraine, which to not far from your location, is being bullied right now. Ride safe and have fun. 🇺🇸

Hey Pedro, Like you, I also was riding my motorcycle through South America in 2019-2020. My bike has also been stuck in Buenos Aires since March 2020. My TIP expired about 2 years ago. I am now back in BA, just brought the bike to a mechanic to get it running again: new battery, flush the tank, clean the carb, etc. What I’m hoping you might be able to help me with is if you have any suggestions on getting my TIP straightened out. I’m hoping they might let the expired TIP slide because of Covid. What do you think? Once it’s running should I just head to the nearest border and try to cross? Or would you try to deal with the local Aduana authorities in BA? My espanol is not very good. Did you get your bike out or is it still in BA? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks
@iPedroMota
@iPedroMota 2 года назад
Yeah, I was told you could pause it for a year because of rona through an email but never got a reply to the one I sent. It's been two years anyway by now. If they aren't merciful they might command you to hand in the motorcycle and then it's potentially thousands of euros to get the bike out of the customs impound. I pretty much figured that on return I would have to get the bike across the border somehow. There are borders inland with Brazil where you can walk across the border easy in town, maybe even bring the motorcycle along. At a south western border with Argentina the Brazilian customs wasn't on the border so you had to ride up to an office to do the motorcycle paperwork which would be perfect for this kind of situation once you're on the other side. Of course you can't go back to Argentina when it works out this way. Or you could try to find a local to go talk to customs on your behalf, maybe call them or write them an email (good luck) explaining the situation and what they think but without giving them any personal information. I'm actually very curious to know how you handle this, whatever happens let me know. Don't get pulled over by cops in the meantime. Good luck.
@timdemetris9769
@timdemetris9769 2 года назад
@@iPedroMota thanks for responding. I’ll be sure to let you know how it works out. I think I will try to get it over the border with Brazil. A specific name of the SW border crossing would be very helpful if you can remember. I think I watched one of your old episodes a few years back where you crossed over at night or something, can’t quite remember now. I know when crossing the border, Ipiales, between Colombia and Ecuador you can easily bypass turning the TIP in for Colombia,and just get a new TIP for Ecuador as they are in separate buildings. Please let me know the name of the SW border crossing you are talking about; it would be a big help. I’m not into trying to fix it the other way. I tried dealing with it in the US with their embassy people and they were no help, and my Spanish sucks, although I do try.
@timdemetris9769
@timdemetris9769 2 года назад
@@iPedroMota oh yea, and I already tried to have some locals fix it on my behalf almost 2 years ago, no luck. But I wasn’t here, it was through WhatsApp and a friend of a friend- you know how that goes. At this point I was just glad to see my bike again.
@iPedroMota
@iPedroMota 2 года назад
Dionísio Cerqueira, on closer inspection a great part of the two towns are intertwined. Doesn't look like there is fencing but there could be, though I see indications that there are crossover sections. Find a way in, park the bike away from the border, go back, stamp yourself out of Argentina into Brazil and do the paperwork for the bike after. There could be other border towns like this closer to BA but I don't know where customs are on the other side. If it's on the border it could look weird coming from Brazil to stamp a bike into Brazil (could be overthinking it though). If you go this route pick a wise time of the day to travel and ride like the goodest of riders in the world to avoid the small chance of getting pulled over. Nice that you are reunited. I'm still nurturing other plans since my 'great' perpetual journey was broken up though I do expect to return at some point.

@@iPedroMota thanks for the info. I just spoke with Dakar motors in BA. He says trying to do the legal stuff takes weeks, maybe months and may not always work out. Just as I thought. He knows of two riders who have crossed over: one to Paraguay, one to Uruguay. He doesn’t know which border crossing they took. So I will definitely take this option. He thought they turned their TIPS in and just told the Covid story, but again he doesn’t really know. I’ll let you know what happens. Probably 3-4 weeks before I attempt it.
