I'm not a huge fan of the Lelit aesthetic on the lower end machines. Why do they make a 57mm portafilter for starters? The boxy shape and plain brushed steel finish are not appealing to me. However, enter Mara X and it's a completely different story. I think it's one of the sexiest looking machines with its beautiful black or white matte powder coating and solid timber accents! But looks aren't everything, so is it smart too?
Well, there are a lot of little features that help make this machine perform at the top of its gain. For the coffee enthusiasts who are looking up at Lelit's Bianca but can't afford it, the Mara X gives people almost the same experience albeit a little diluted.
There is an option to upgrade at any point with the Flow paddle controller kit. This allows for home baristas to enter the realm of flow profiling and pushing their extractions to the limit. There's other features that are unique to the Mara X and while they aren't as amazing as features on other machines, they will suit the barista who isn't looking for the best of the best but rather, an acceptable compromise.
but what do you think? If you don't have the biggest budget, is the Mara X the answer to your dreams or are there other machines you prefer for the same price?
I apologise for the audio, we lost the lapel mics audio so we had to use the back up mic on the camera and it was a loud, busy heavy traffic day and so the audio cleaning was a nightmare.
Also, if anyone has a better understanding of the priority switch and why the machine needs both the PID and the priority switch please let me know. I can't see a good reason why they chose this, but I can definitely see why they NEEDED it.
As always, whatever your choice, enjoy your brew!

I am super passionate about coffee and educating people on all aspects of this amazing drink. I love bringing the stories back from the other side of the world about how they grow and process the coffee differently on each farm, in each region, and in each country. I also love helping baristas around the world make better coffee for themselves, whether they're at home, professional, competitors and or even just venturing out into the wide world of coffee.
