Let's set the record straight: Just because an ingredient is good in your diet does NOT automatically mean it's safe OR beneficial when applied directly to the skin.
Let's take lemons:
Drinking lemon in your water or squeezing lemon on your veggies is a great way to add Vitamin C into your diet. Your body needs Vitamin C to synthesize collagen, which naturally helps to keep our skin smooth and plump.
But, following those pinterest DIY masks that tell you to put lemon or lime juice on your skin? Hard pass, guys. The pH is too acidic for our delicate skin barrier. And, the acid in lemon juice can increase your risk for sun sensitivity and can even cause hyperpigmentation in the skin.
