Because they had already slowed down the launch twice by 2021 to where it was already too slow. Of course nobody riding it after then would notice.

Now if only they could change the restraints. Dollywood's operations were otherwise really good when I went last week but people were getting confused with the seatbelt/lap bar combo on Lightning Rod. Still though, I got to ride Lightning Rod twice and it was mostly open both days I went, that was great.

@@wilsoncarlstedt8385 The combination is definitely necessary with that type of train. I felt like I was going to fly out of my seat on the old trains without the seatbelt (and this was after the slowed launch).

It was slightly slower than previous rides I’ve had on Lightning Rod but it’s also very early in the season! So the ride probably still needs to break in. The airtime was still great tho!

The retrack from last year fixed all the jackhammering and iffy spots. It's slapping hard.

Rode Thunderhead last week and it's probably the best coaster there, super long and really intense! TT is great too, and Lightning rod is rougher than TT somehow. I promise you it's gotta be the roughest RMC ever.

The trains are brand new this year despite being aesthetically the same, and all the brake run and station hardware has actually been replaced with a new system. The new system certainly brakes harder than it used to. Anyways, hopefully that answers your questions 😅

Lighting Rod in its old form was my favorite coaster. I haven't ridden this version yet so I'll hold my judgment. But I say that to then point out that despite having my favorite coaster, that's not even the best thing about the park (in my opinion.) Dollywood is absolutely one of the best overall park experiences out there. Make sure to eat the food and watch the shows as well. Dollywood is in the same echelon as Islands of Adventure, BGW and Silver Dollar City which are basically the best most well balanced parks in the USA. I still personally prefer orginal Disneyland but I realize that's just my taste. Anyway, you'll love Dollywood. Don't just go for the coaster credits. Take time to really enjoy the park.

I think dollywood is overrated ngl the coaster lineup is on par with SDC lol

@@zacg_ Oh absolutely. I may be a coaster focused kind of person, but there’s a reason I love and recommend BGW to everyone. I wasn’t even a coaster fan when I went, and the overall atmosphere is just so amazing. I’m sure I’ll have fun regardless of my feelings on Lightning Rod. I mean, I still expect it to be a top 10 for myself, but I know my tastes in coasters are much different from the majority of enthusiasts.

@@HugeRMCFanBoY-bx3od I find SDC to have a very good coaster line up so I'm not sure that's really a criticism. But if you're trying to say that it's coaster line up isn't on the level of a place like Kings Island, Cedar Point, Hersheypark or Magic Mountain then I think that's missing the point. Dollywood is a theme park not an amusement park. I personally prefer theme parks. But if you go to Dollywood or SDC and think "wow, they don't have anything to compare with Millennium Force or TTD" then I think you were confused when you entered the park. That would be like walking into Cedar Point and saying that the park is garbage because it's dark ride collection doesn't remotely compare with Disneyland or Islands of Adventure. Again, that's not the point of Cedar Point and having an extensive coaster collection isn't really the point of a place like Dollywood, though their coasters are fun.
