If you’re looking at raw stats, it’s not even close. Luka had better Pts/G, Reb/G, Ast/G, and efficiency than SGA, Brunson, and Ant. American NBA players and sports commentators are biased toward the physically talented young players. They think that to the MVP you need to have highlight dunks and a high percentage of three-point shoots. Basketball also requires skills in rebounding, dribbling, setting picks, passing, and most importantly being able to breakdown defenses. The European players are just more talented in all the skills that basketball requires. Jokic has been the MVP because of the all-round skills he has and also because the Nuggets have worn a championship. Luka will most likely not win the MVP until Dallas wins a championship and they force the biased voters to recognize his greatness.

In a way they are right to ignore Luka. Because the genius is in his own league. The best basketball player and entertainer in the world, who revitalized the interest towards NBA all around the world. Jokic is in his own league too. The second best player in the world. After them the competition starts… for the first place in the third league. This reality is not convenient for the current agenda but that’s the reality. US media is biased towards US players, and that is to be expected especially in game like basketball. It is not always easy to admit that outsiders like Luka or Jokic are better than all that home grown talent. It's a specific type of racism among black folks as well when it comes to white people who are doing well in what has been categorized as traditionally 'black spaces' (whether what we're talking about is basketball, hip hop etc., and whether the hate is coming from black commentators or the average black fan). Here's specifically what I've noticed over the years. If someone is good enough to participate and maybe even be pretty good (ex: a white role player in the NBA or someone who's good enough to make the all-star game a couple years/ the #3 member of a championship Big Three) then they like him. But when it's a guy who's a legitimate threat to lead a team to a championship, win an MVP, become the best player in his era, then they hate that guy's guts. Was like that with Bird back in the day, it was the same with Dirk and Nash later on and it's the same with Jokic and Luka today.
