I was working at LeBonMarché, which is owned by LVMH, every saturday at 11am Bernard Arnault would arrive with Alexandre, its was part of a weekly tour across Paris of all the major flagships of the group, from LV to Guerlain, to meet all of the teams, employees, the clientele etc, He trained his son since he was 16 and he did the same for his older kids and for sure continued with the youngest, that family is very serious, those arent just nepo babies, in France we have never seen them in tabloïds, going to insane parties or clubbing, i mean of course they go to fancy events, but its always very much like work events where they represent the family, they are very discret, its very much like royalty...

I believe nepotism has levels and grades. Your father getting you a job with the union because he is well respected--nepotism. Your mother putting a word in because she runs a Fortune 100-nepotism. Being a VP of a global luxury company because your father ow nits parent company--nepotism. Different levels and different grades because each parent’s reach is different. They may be beyond qualified, but what nepotism gives you is proximity to opportunity. The ability to learn from your father at 16. The ability to be surrounded by brilliant business minds. Work-life is about being able to perform job functions, but it is also about networking. Nepotism gives you an edge. If you can keep/maintain the job when any other person would be fired… that is nepotism in its purest form.

true. in the Philippines, if it's a family owned business it's not nepotism. However, if you are a politician and you put your family members in key government positions, or in a private company you promote your relatives to a higher position even if someone is more qualified, then it is nepotism.

@Dee___.. it’s a problem in white dominated countries mainly the us and sometimes europe. 1- people care if rich peoples children have a cheat sheet in life 2-it is very unlikely for a poc in the us to have extreme wealth especially from a company because a) no generational wealth because of slavery and immigration during the industrial revolution b) no connections to rich people because of that separation due to racism. more people are noticing how things work and being able to do something about it so thankfully things are changing. sry this is so long 🩷

Nepotism is only bad when they put people that have zero qualification in charge of vital governmental departments, which in my country’s case ruined the economy back in the 80s. Modern days nepotism by a CEO of a multi billion dollar company will not affect you at all. It is indeed not fair, but life is also far from fair.
@JE-ws7zu
@JE-ws7zu Год назад
The best thing he can do for his company is ensure his children become the CEOs… the alternative being that a bunch of unqualified children inherent the controlling stake of the company when he dies… in way over their heads with no clear roles is a recipe for disaster. This way, all the children are in their own decision-making lane. When the time comes for them to inherit the majority stake, they will all be experts in their respective roles… it’s honestly the best decision to ensure LVMH’s further stability when that transfer of power occurs. (Just think of all the messy family disputes and resulting company collapses from not having this type of stricter succession-planning).

It is definitely privileged to have a parent like that raise you and give you opportunities to obtain those qualifications, that's unfair but part of life. That being said I think as long as they are qualified and hardworking then it's as fair as nepotism can be. Edit: also I think the goal to be a nepo parents in this way. To secure your kid's success and raise them in a way so they actually can do the jobs you can offer them instead of leaching off your money? I've worked under company's where the ceo would put their lazy, privileged child in charge who had no clue what they were doing, would barely work, and basically run the place into the ground. I don't think that's the case in this families situation. They all have a lot of education and basically started learning about the companies from childhood. By all accounts, they all work very hard and are very successful and respected. But I just wanted to say that's definitely not always the case!!

Usually the families of business do try to prepare them earlier on to eventually be able to take over or hold some sort of position in the business but it doesn’t take just 1 person for it to operate to begin with so it’s almost a non issue imo. I know a kid who’s probably going to inherit a large business but it seems like his family is raising him to understand business and finances at an early age to be prepared. Other families don’t do this and some kids run around with degrees they wont do anything with and front fake business ventures to appear like they’re doing something in life.

Some call it nepotism, but anyone with business acumen would call this successful strategic succession planning. You could have his children inheriting controlling stake in a huge conglomerate with zero experience and zero role clarity, or you could have his children inheriting controlling stake in a company which they are all well-versed in and better yet, each have very clear executive roles within, which ensures they do not fight over decision-making, but rather lean into each other’s expertise when making such decisions that affect thousands upon thousands of peoples’ livelihoods. Nepotism is only bad when it is unearned.

rather than hate, I'm definitely jealous with the kids ahahhaha, because at the end of the day if I'm on Bernard Arnould's shoes I deffo would do the same. I mean why would someone worked so so hard and be successful in life if not for one day passing it to their children and grandchildren and so on.. We all are just an outsider, we don't know how it feel to be his children l, if they are good, hard work, decent people they must have an immense pressure of being his child, you know to at least be on his level and keep the legacy... I remembered red this about one of the richest family in Malaysia and before they entered the family's company they need to have double degrees in both undergrad and grad school (like I even struggling with finishing one undergraduate school and it has nothing to do with my parents money, it's just me the problem is me 😅..), so no one would questions whether they are qualified or not, I mean even with all the qualifications people would still see them getting in purely because of their parent right?? I'm not trying to justify this nepo baby things, but let's not just seeing it from one POV 😁

Honesty, Jean is exactly the person to be at LV watches. His personal collection is immense and whilst the Tambour is a ridiculous proposition at $50,000 (next to no true watch enthusiast will be tempted to try ot at that price when you have so many alternatives), it does stand on it's own merits.

I don’t see a problem with nepotism as long as the person taking over is qualified and won’t sink the company. They seem to do a good job. I don’t see an issue. It’s pretty normal to want your family to be successful.

It would make sense only if You didn’t use your “empire” to place your babies on the vacant thrones of another empire not founded or created by You which clearly had many qualified & hard working candidates but were & still are unable to take the throne cuz they are unfortunately poor asf.

I don't know what's unfair about it. Arnault himself was a nepotism baby too, what he and his kids got was a foot in the door which is most important. Bernard Arnault father was in real estate, and he used that knowledge for brands, housing it in shops everywhere. Like Macdonald, they don't just sell burgers, they own real estate and buy up the market.

@@luxecollective but in all honesty they’re just achieving what every parent wishes for their children, from an early age because their parents were massively successful they were taught the ropes of the businesses and apprenticed in major roles in the company. This meant that they learnt everything they could from their elders and from watching how the companies work from a young age (apparently one of the sons had been apprenticed there from an 16 years of age). And having the privilege that was awarded to them by their parents is nepotism because it is still the practice of favouring relatives, friends, or associates, especially by giving them jobs, but because the children are qualified i don’t find it wrong because it means they’ve got the knowledge and capabilities to actually run the company rather than the type of nepotism where the individuals aren’t qualified but only receiving jobs due to their relatives. what are your thoughts?
@aaron3951
@aaron3951 Год назад
Would you rather daddy not pay for his children’s education? Also, the children did not choose to be born rich, it just happened that their parents are ultra rich. Finally, even with all the privileges in the world, if one does not put the work, nothing will come of it. Guess what, they did use their privileges in their lives to better themselves and be qualified to the positions they’re in now.

We can go one step further: most lucrative corporate jobs start with a long unpaid internship which can only be done by someone with a financial able family in order to support that . That’s another way to privilege the rich .

Rich men offer their children great education to them work for them in the future. It is nice to give others a chance but I believe it’s okay to keep the money or the opurtunity in the family first. But they very fortunate to have access to wealth and education. Unless they’re doing like my boss that never works but takes full pays bigger than the people actually working.

The fact that they are qualified doesn’t mean it isn’t nepotism and by saying that it is nepotism, we don’t take away all the efforts that have made in order to get where they are today. It is simply about acknowledging the advantages that having a relative with influence gave them. Fact is, someone as qualified as them probably wouldn’t be where they are at the same age without their father So, they are nepo babies and competent persons. One isn’t exclusive to the other

I do but don’t disagree, I do because if they’re over qualified and can prove they’ve got what it takes then sure but not gonna lie, this just seems like their dad got them all nice jobs at fancy brands but also what if one of the employees can do their job better? They aren’t gonna see that position because guess what? The people in those positions have good old daddy on their side
