Today I’m in south western Malaysia to visit the beautiful port town of Malacca (Melaka). Melaka is known for its unique east and west history. It has had historical affiliations with the Portugese, Dutch, and English during its rise as a commercial centre of trade. These days it still is a popular trading hub but increasingly known as a famous tourist destination. Join me on this journey of Melaka and don’t forget to subscribe for more exciting Hussmeister adventures. If you have any questions about my Malaysia vlog, please comment below and I will get back to you. Enjoy! #malacca #melaka

Nice, nice town, Melaka. I've been there so many times and still have some friends overthere. I also suggest a nice walk all along the channel in the direction of the new town, where there are some peaceful coffee bars and green spots to repair from the hot. The historical centre is not super big but extremely nice and well kept, with some microscopic alleys where you can amazingly get lost easily. The food court area in - damn, I forgot the name - not too far from Jonker Walk, on its left, if you cross the bridge and you turn left, it's the best place where to go for eating. Well, all in all a top must see in Malaysia and a perfect place for relaxing, if you dont mind too much the pink tuk tuk whith hyper loud child songs :D Cheers from Mario, Italy, KL :D

Hello friend 👋🏼 Thank you for that great information. Very informative ☺️
@shaifulmukhelas947

The statue is of Saint Francis Xavier, not St Paul. St Francis Xavier was a Jesuit who came to Malacca to spread the gospel during the Portuguese rule (1511-1641). When he died in China, his remains were brought back to Malacca and were buried in the church before the Portuguese moved it to Goa in the 1500s. His remains are still in Goa and incorrupted. But his severed hand is currently kept in the Vatican. That is why the marble statue lost one hand: a tree branch fell and broke the hand that was sent to the Vatican.
@hussmeister
@hussmeister Месяц назад
Hello friend 👋🏼 thank you yes we have already identified that correction about the name. There seems to be condlicting information about the hand. Some people say it was a tree and others say it was lightning. Either way it is a good story. Thanks for watching the video 🙏🏽☺️
@shaifulmukhelas947
@shaifulmukhelas947 Месяц назад
You're welcome ❤️ yeah, I even heard the same thing, too - either a tree branch or a lightning. But I'm more convinced by the tree since the tree where the statue stood has been there 100s of years before the statue was erected. Anyway, if you had passed by the Pahlawan Mall before the A Famosa ruins, the mall was built on the original site of the first western hospital in Malacca. The Portuguese built two hospitals - Hospital dos Pobres for the poor folks and Hospital de Rei for the high-ranking officers, merchants and nobilities. Both were destroyed during the Dutch Siege in 1641. Across the mall is the Postal Museum. Before they built the Dutch, the site was a convent for Portuguese nuns and there was this urban legend about a young nun and a Portuguese soldier who would have their nightly tryst. When they found her pregnant, they bricked the nun alive in an outhouse and the soldier was executed. It is said that the pregnant Nun's ghost has been haunting the museum ever since.

@@hussmeister if you asked around, you'll find more stories that even the locals are unaware of - especially from the Portuguese period. If you were there on Good Friday, you could have witnessed the Senhor Morto procession where some members of the church that you just visited would carry a 500+ year old effigy of the dead Christ in a glass coffin around the city. They've been doing it since the 16th century. I was there in 2017 and it felt like I was in Brazil or Portugal.

@@hussmeister if you were in KL, there's one place you should check out. It is called the Lee Rubber building. It's an art deco building near the Petaling Street and used to house a big bookstore. During WW2, the Japanese Armed Forces police (Kempetai) used the building as their base for interrogation and torture. One of their victims was an Australian lady named Doris van Straaten. It was said that Doris was pushed to her death from the highest floor and to this day, no one knows how her remains were disposed. That is one mystery that only a handful folks in KL know.

The British took over from the Dutch as a care taker but since they have to give this back when the Dutch sorted their problems in Europe and British reluctantly wanted to give this back to the Dutch and therefore they destroyed all the walls and left only this front door but later the Dutch change their mind and decided to exchange Melaka for a British colony with same size in Indonesia and eventually the British found themselves regret they destroyed the walls around the fort.
