"Mamma Mía" (1975/76) wasn't their greatest hit, also was one of their firsts the biggest ABBA worldwide hit was "Dancing Queen" (1976/77) #1 all over the world
@@eduardooscar309 If you had taken the time to read carefully what I had written you would have realised I was talking about ''Mamma Mia'' the movie is basically their greatest hits!
Of course, the film has a sense of nostalgia, especially for people of mature age, because it is designed using only ABBA songs from their golden era. The revival of ABBA's music began in the 90s, more than 10 years after ABBA's breakup. It was a couple of Australian films and some Erasure covers, and the success of the release of the compilation album "ABBA Gold" (still on worldwide charts today) This unexpected revival made Björn and Benny, ABBA's composers, agree to create a musical theater play "Mamma Mia" with ABBA songs. And its success was so great that they agreed to make this film. And for its premiere in Stockholm Sweden 2008 the four members of ABBA were present; but not in a separate photo of the four, but in a panoramic view with the entire cast (Björn and Benny at each end, the singers Agnetha and Frida in the center with Meryl Streep) Then came the second film, but by that time ABBA had already announced that they had returned to the studio and recorded two new songs after 35 years.(it was finally an album 'Voyage") and currently, with ABBA to celebrate the 50th anniversary of their historic Eurovision conquest with the iconic "Waterloo" There are also rumors of a third film in the "Mamma Mia" saga
I love how all the locals are actually the Greek Gods. You have to pay attention to catch it. Then during the closing credits they are up on a cloud in ancient dress.
not greek gods. They are literally a greek chorus. Greek Chorus is a an old theatre divice (dating back to ancient greek) of a collective of people who speak as one voice. In Mamma mia, the townsfolk act as the collective and the ending with the ancient dress is a nod to the fact that they are a literal greek chorus like the ancient ones.
This was a great reaction, so much fun seeing someone who really appreciates ABBA's music. And, yes, those were all original ABBA songs, they were amazing. (Bjørn and Benny both have cameos in this movie, btw).
Many thanks to Oliver and Huxley! 👤👤👤 I love this tale... It started out as a stage production which I saw with a Broadway touring company (in New Orleans) years before the movie. I hope you'll watch the sequel MAMMA MIA: HERE WE GO AGAIN (2018) someday, too.
Slipping through my fingers makes me cry. Makes me think of my nephews. I’ve watched them grow up and every moment they just keep growing. Blink and you miss it.
All songs are by ABBA from their original period of 1972 -1982. Mamma Mia was a musical that opened in London on the April 1999, 25 years to the day that ABBA won the Eurovision Song Contest with Waterloo. It is still running 25 years on, it was written around the songs of ABBA and there is only minor tweaks to the lyrics of some of the songs
They picked the best Abba songs for the musical. The 2007 film Across the Universe did something similar. Great Beatles songs and a great cast singing them.
Lol I'm watching this late...like "did anyone tell him?!" I see though in the comments that the album was not made fir the movie, but rather the other way around. Across the Universe is the same. An amazing story built around the Beatles greatest hits. Extra fun for music lovers 😊.
I have to thank you so much for this reaction! This was one of my mom’s favorite musical films as she loved ABBA! I still have the memory of us when we went and saw this with my cousins when I was young and then we saw the sequel together years later. It’s one of my fondest memories of her. Watching this reaction felt like she was still here with me. You have got to watch Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again. If you’re interested in any other jukebox musical films, I must recommend these: Rock of Ages, Rocketman, Sing, Sing 2, Lovestruck the Musical, Alvin and the Chipmunks tetralogy, Cinderella (2021), and Trolls trilogy. I must recommend you check out this Christmas musical film, Dolly Patton’s Christening On The Square, which also stars Christine Baranski (Tanya). 👰🏼♀️👩🏼👨❓💙🩵🤍
This is one of my favoirte soundtracks. One of my other favorite soundtracks is from Lagaan. Once upon a time in India. I kow how yoou like Bollywood movies and I think you would like that movie.
Love this one, it's hard to build a really good musical around existing songs, but this is one of the better ones, I've also been part of an Elvis musical called "All Shook Up" on stage, I don't think it's a movie yet, but I enjoyed it. If it ever becomes a movie, that's a must, haha. You always do a great job but you do a REALLY great job with musical reactions, love how you get into them!
Thanks for this video!!! Great reaction!!! ALL the songs in the movie are ABBA songs. I saw the play on a cruise ship and it was better than the movie!
They're all ABBA songs and they didn't make any songs for the movie lol. The Winner Takes It All came out in 1980. I hope you check out the sequel on your channel. I love the first, but the 2nd one is better.
I can leave you two suggestions about some musical films or films with soundtracks, in chronological order: 1- "A Hard Day's Night" (1964) The Beatles first Movie, in black and white 2- "Melody" (1971) Bee Gees soundtrack 3- "ABBA The Movie" (1977) with ABBA on Australia Tour 4- "Grease" (1978) with Olivia Newton John and John Travolta 5- "Xanadu" (1980) soundtrack with Olivia Newton John and Electric Light Orchestra
The musical is from the 90’s, also funny how you say people can’t have nostalgia for something from 2008 because it was too recent. There absolutely is a nostalgia factor for this movie and 2008 was 16 years ago. Also, you should absolutely react to the second one, in my opinion it’s even better than the first
