Maybe Woodward’s ‘amazing’ ability to cut great sponsorship deals was due less to him and more to the club’s reputation under a residual successful Fergie and team 🤔
gregoryw9 isn’t that common sense lol they don’t want to sponsor United because Ed Woodward is the ceo lmao they wanna sponsor them because the club is world wide😂
You still have to market yourself well, look at Liverpool in the early 90s; I know they weren't doing well but they were still MILES ahead of United at the time in terms of trophy count and popularity because their dominating of English football was still fresh in the memory, but they never marketed themselves in time and by the time they did start to pull their finger out and capitalise on their fame and popularity it was too late, they had been left for dead by United both on and off the pitch and despite being the far better team are only now starting to catch up off the pitch
@@clydemacauley1554 They're main income for Manchester United. If they go somewhere else then Board doesn't get as much money meaning they'll actually start caring for success (: Hit where it hurts if you want change, simple as that.
@@urielizaguirre9208 Yeah, Liverpool's owners actually care about winning. The Glazers don't. The Glazers are what Hicks & Gillet wanted to be, just using the club as a license to print money.
@@richardlobo88 "no performance on pitch so we use $ to lure players" -> those "gold diggers perform poorly" -> no performance -> use more money to lure players it's a cycle
@Sylvester Banini You do realize there's a football video game that sells near billions of copies? A little game called -- FIFA? The market is so big that there's 2 games for pete's sake
United have scored 5 goals in their last 7 league matches. That should give you an impression of where they are right now. Edit: Including Europa League and Carabao Cup, that's 7 goals scored in their last 10. And if we don't count penalty shootouts, only two wins.
You guys are so fucked. But you either live as a United fan or die knowing you're plastic AF. I'm a Liverpool fan born 91', lived through multiple rises and falls, and seen my club finish 6th-8th multiple times not so long ago, yet I had absolutely no doubt on my support and loyalty. Don't abandon ship now you glory hunting fucks.
MKAY Thanks for Subscribing Have a nice day! Can I just say, it was the shittest game ever, our problems are that we have no creativity and no finishing power up to. That’s all Woodward and the glazers fault. Although Ole might be losing now, at least he has a plan for the future in who he wants and what he’s doing
bobbywrtm Tampa bay never get close to,the playoffs either. In fact they won the Super Bowl the year the Glazers bought them and steady decline since...maybe Utd are in for the same.
*Hmmm... And they're only 2 points above the relegation zone... I guess we've all heard of the term TOO BIG TO GO DOWN but that might be a possible scenario if things don't change...*
In football nothing is too big to fail, on field success is the sole reason why any club becomes big in the first place and to build a business on that club staying big while not taking care to maintain on field success is a recipe for disaster.
TBH, I'm hearing/seeing more and more comments about the possibility of relegation, fans seem to be quite serious about this and who can blame them considering the way Utd are playing.
@@SubjectRandom21 These are man utds next few games: Liverpool, Norwich, Brighton, Bourenmouth and Spurs. A team that can't beat Rochdale and can't score. The games after Liverpool are against opposition that will 100% see an opportunity to go at Utd. Brighton just beat Spurs 3-0. Norwich have rattled City and Liverpool. United's form rn is like a struggling Wolves that can get something from the top 6 but struggle everywhere else. That's relegation form...
Please do a video on LaLiga finances. Like why it makes less money than bundesliga? And why many clubs in LaLiga are very poor than other clubs in other league. Please do a video on that
Think they had tv deals in which Barcelona and Real Madrid got huge portion of it because most watched teams in la liga and other teams lower down table only getting a fraction what they are getting compared to England where it is fairly disturbed that’s why feel sorry for those teams because they don’t earn much money anyways then league is doing that
I’m not even a Utd fan but that comment from Ed Woodard is absolutely sacrilege! Furthermore it is unforgivable and clearly demonstrates he is unfit for his role. Whether you like it or not Manchester United is an institute of sporting excellence, not because of their global earning potential off-field but rather because of their dynamic exciting footballing prowess on field. We are witnessing the implosion of a shining era and the epoch of incompetence and stagnation. Another great & informative video. I’ll add the book to the reading list.
Find a new excuse you salty probably arsenal or Liverpool fan. If you're Liverpool fan, go enjoy what your club is doing (it's not often Liverpool fans can enjoy themselves), don't bother about us, and if you're arsenal fan, just get out. Take a good look at your shit club. If you can't comprehend the genius of SAF, you need brain surgery
at this point i am wondering if they can keep themselves from bottom 10 that 0 shots on target vs alkamar really opened my eyes to how bad they really play if you compare for example how leister has been handling it self to how united have since ferguson left (since 2013-2014) you realize how bad that is .. i am not even talking about the half a billion debt they took to finance the buy only to pay on interest so far 800 million i mean this is ridiculous .. it would be like a normal human being would decide to avoid eating and instead decide to eat its own organs ... slowly
It is not so much that sponsors will simply leave, but the record breaking new bids will go to other teams and no one will bother to bid much harder next year than last year for a Man United deal. They just will not be one of the first girls asked to dance, and that will definitely affect their relative finances over the long haul.
Stop with that expired oil money crap, City is a lot more successful these 7 years than their entire history, their fanbase globally is improving because of the attractive football they are playing, and now consistently breaking the QF of UCL. It is only logical all of their income streams grow exponentially, they are a promising project that any business entities would sponsor on and any unbiased football fan would watch on. Not to mention they rake a good sum of prize money every year now
I’d love to see more comparisons to other clubs in relation to finance increase/decrease in areas. Aswell as that whether or not club costs are going up in general so not just a Man U thing. good vid tho
great video. please do one on my team Everton, i haven't really seen any serious conversations outside of our fan base regarding our yet again well below par start to the season. So much money spent and so much talent but with a lack of any real progression bar a few good results at home last season. Our fourth manager in the last three years (martinez, koeman, allardyce and now silva). Very depressing to be a toffee right now!
@NathanUpdates I honestly think the idea was getting Mandzukic or Dyballa. I think United really belived at least one of those two would come. When that failed, United could have went for something panically, but thought they had enough offensive players utill the next transfer window. (In retrospective a panic loan would have been smart choice, but I think United are now aiming for long term solutions, and they overestimated their squad depth)
The next generation of international fans won't be supporting Man U. They are lucky that their fans are loyal for now and still remember the good times.
chumpo ah German football teams have a law where the fans must own 51% of club shares (a majority), so that they have the power to veto anything their owner does. It keeps ticket prices very low, teams need less sponsorship, keeps the club firmly connected with its fans, and stops a rogue owner (Glazers) from doing what they want. They can also decide that, if their owner is not doing a good enough job (Glazers again) to vote them out of power. Man Utd could kick out Ed Woodward and the Glazers straight away under a 50+1 rule. Corbyn was talking about introducing a system like it which is good.
No, they WILL give him a lifetime contract. And they will not buy any players and just use academy players in the name of following Sir Alex's steps:) 92' class will come again!!!! (in 2092?) All Hail the Mighty Glazers, Woodward the Whizz and Solskjaer the True Special One.
If Manchester United go down to the championship, then a lot of the fans driven away will return and a lot of the idiots who go now won't bother. So in a way a lot of fans will enjoy it, the one who's love United no matter what.
Thank you for this video - I’ve been saying for years that Matchday revenue isn’t enough to cover players wages and in Utds case it covers less than a 3rd of their wage bill... I would like to see a video detailing the breakdown of Match Day revenue and how much is drawn in from - General Sale tickets - corporate tickets - matchday sponsors - food and beverage - merchandise... The reason for this request is because of a statement made on Sky Sunday supplement during a discussion on ticket prices in which one of the panel members stated that Utd could literally give the general sale tickets (including season tickets) for free and only see a 5% drop in overall revenue... If that’s the case then clubs shouldn’t be charging more than 15 quid a game as that is just greed...
Tito I really love your work...thanks for this information...quite resourceful for a young sport reporter like me ....thank you ....Man utd really in a mess ....the only thing the glazers had which was income is a drying well now ....even with 1.1 billion fans that even makes it worse
Brighton fan but I don’t think anyone, and especially united fans, realise just how good Sir Alex Ferguson was compared to the next best in world football. Yes he had a great team but united over achieved year after year and the fans got used to it. They can’t rebuild back to these glory days but maybe in 5 years + can fight for titles again. Fans need to lower their expectations like for example Chelsea fans who now realise they’re in a rebuilding process where any points they do get in the league is a bonus. Another great video btw.
332 million in wages?! Lingard, Jones, Young, Sanchez (loaned to Inter Milan but still being paid by United) ... How is Woodward & Co. still have a job defies any logic. And some "fans" are calling for the head of Solskjaer, just like with Mourinho. Moyes, van Gaal, Mourinho, Solskjaer have one thing in common: Woodward and the board appointed them. So, is sacking the manager really the solution?
We are too big to fail .. we will keep supporting MU with everything until we die ... it's in our veins trophies isn't everything .. we have a great history 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
No matter what even if I stay trophy-less all my life that's the price of love to the clup .. we will support if a financial crisis happen .. buying t shirts and attending all games if possible .. one day will comeback .. I'll wait until the day I die .. even without trophies True Red ❤️
Honestly. Some of the money spent looked like decent buys/loans Di Maria, Falco, Schweinsteiger, Schneiderlin, Miki. Even Pogba, Sanchez, Martial on paper looks like great buys. But it's all either not worked, or just fallen apart. Honestly I feel Man Utd need a whole refresh. May take a moment of not having European football to get right. The squad needs a major lift. Some good youth that actually want to succeed and play for the shirt. Even if it means not buying these 'global superstars' as it seems that's failed time after time. Because otherwise. I don't see Man utd going any where any time soon.
Nah. The man signed Bailly, Ibra, Mkhitaryan, Fred, pogba, Lindelhof, Lukaku, Sanchez, matic, Dalot, and lee grant. And somehow he managed to piss them all off.
6:19 How have they spent £99m on players since 30th June 2019 when Dan James and AWB were already accounted for? Did Maguire cost £99m once all the fees were added up?
I agree with everything in this video. Except the comparisson between how much Sir Fergusson spent against Ole or Mourinho since the market has become really inflated and players like Fred wouldn't go for around 53mil back then. Of course I still believe they paid a huge amount for Fred but as an Internacional fan I know he can be good and I'm kind of sad that most United fans blame him for most of their issues.
FRED COST HOW MUCH!?!? **spraying coffee and marmite toast all over my monitor** I'm thinking, as a Crystal Palace supporter.. Are they interested in Benteke? For.. £100m? With extras?
@@rorrt That is the game today though? Fred is a full international and is a good player. His price is obviously inflated to match and in some ways exceed the market today. Lets not forget that Liverpool paid nearly 40 for Andy Carroll and Chelsea paid 50 for Torres. It happens.
Liverpool paid 35 million for Carroll but only because they got 50 million for Torres. They sold Benayoun for 6 million, and used the rest to buy Suarez for 21 million. Let's be honest, they got shafted with Carroll but it was offset by success of Suarez.
Players don't wanna play for united. I mean it's one of the biggest clubs with rich history. I don't wanna talk about what's going on with united but they really need to fix everything from ground to the top.
They really haven't realised how fickle football fans are when it comes to foreign teams. There are probably 100,000 Man City fans in Shanghai alone, how many of them were Man Utd fans 8 years ago? Of course there are exceptions who go hardcore, I met a Leeds Utd fan in Thailand in 2010, when they were a League 1 side. But it's not the diehards who make you the money, it's the noodle sponsors and the people who watch the occasional game in the bar and buy a shirt for themselves, and one for each sobrin@ for their birthday.
When I was in Munich, Bayern played Bundesliga game against Hertha and a lot of people were in Bayern or Hertha kits. There was group of chinese tourists which entered in Bayern store and they all bought Bayern kits. By looking at them, maybe 5 people in that group would know to name 3 Bayern players.
G Yorkshire I live in Shanghai are there’s still a lot more united shirts you see than City, a hell of a lot more, or any other English club. However, how long this will last will of course depend on their success. I have no doubt things will change soon if United continue their sorry slide.
@The fastest milkman in the West Yep, that's the main demographic of Los Angeles, Crips make up 49% of the population, Bloods 37% and the remainder is a mishmash of wools (bad), wools (good) and a small Jewish population (predominantly Ashkenazi and Mizrahi).
As we ALL know, its performance on the pitch that comes first before anything else. You can't expect external brands to meet with clubs who are relegation-threatened, it doesn't work.
That was a killer blow eh which I think some people also put most of it in their pockets Then came sanchez and so on Do you really think that the special one would do those deals if the cash was his?
It really is astonishing how poorly run Manchester United are, the prospect for them to be the best club in the world is there, with the structure, history and reputaion there success post Ferguson was all there. Woodward has done exceptionally well in building Manchester United's financial dominance, but he's clearly not the right man to lead the footballing operations, to think he made such an idiotic comment as that just epitomizes his lack of knowledge in sports management. It's been clear for a while they need a Director of Footballing operations, and they've clearly been looking but they have so far not found a suitable candidate. They need to find the right man for the job as this person can make or break United. Clearly they need someone soon. My issue with them for a while has been there insistence on brining in a former player who has minimal experience, though they insist this former player has the clubs ideals in mind, they don't possess the knowledge as some do. Only Edwin Van De Sar can be considered good enough as a former player to lead the clubs vision, but reports say he doesn't want the job. They need to get someone and the right man soon, this club has lacked a clear vision for a long time, the chopping and changing has left the club with a slew of players who call suit different systems and are all on mixed lengths of contracts. The managers brought in all have had different styles and with that we've seen the club play in all sorts of ways, with that the identity of the club has remained unclear and that causes further confusion throughout the club. To fix all these issues they need a Dan Ashworth, Stuart Webber, or a Luis Campos, these guys all have done exceptionally well in creating sustainable clubs. All of these guys have bought bargain players that turned into gold or found young prospects that are currently some of the most interesting in the world, on top of that they have hired managers who fit these signings and the clubs style, all of these clubs have the structure to thrive and have done so with constant improvement. I recommend the Manchester United Board start really looking for this kind of staff member, they've half-assed it so far and its clear they need to give this there all, this will be the most important signing in the clubs recent history.
The shame is change is unlikely to occur until the finance suffer, and that is unlikely to happen soon with football is the biggest cash cow of all sports in the world, a mediocre Premier league team can easily have yearly earnings of billions, let alone a club such as United. what the Glazer and Woodward miss is that reputation takes time to build and destroy, and currently Man United is slowly sliding out of football fans interest, but when it becomes too late, it will take years to restore United to it's full glory. we need many changes before we can climb back up, we need a passionate management, talented coach and loyal footballers who value football more than changing their hair style week in week out. unfortunately none of these are likely to happen anytime soon or at all.
@@timmyfung01 Well, football isn't really the biggest cash cow in the world, the amount of investment and risk makes it not really as financially viable as a NBA or NFL, I think its financially on par with MLB currently. The rewards are there, but the NBA and NFL are bigger cash cows as the franchise makes these sports financially more capable. Even if it doesn't reach the same volume of audience its consistency makes it viable.
The transfer policy is quite simple: Continue to spend bigger than the competitors on main transfer targets. Only difference so far being that ManU's standing and potential swayed players in favor of ManU either way - that is now gone. They now spend bigger than competitors on 1B or even second shelf-options
I’m a Celtic fan, I don’t love not hate Man Utd! I don’t mind how they do, Jamie redknapp made a good point a few days ago stating he can see them becoming Liverpool and 30 years without a league win. That’s scary!
hmmer It would never happened! They have struggled recently. But not that badly! It would be a huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge shock to see Manchester United be relegated!
Yes! He'll buy the club after Glazers leave and rename it Solskjaer United. Everyone in the team will have to pray before every training to Ole Statue.
