Is Mario Kart 7 Bad? 

I think the reason that most of MK7's new additions were brought into 8, is because they were all so good

Mario Kart 7 is such an underrated game imo It has a great roster of courses very few bad courses and brought back most of the fan favourites And the controls are just so smooth I think its just overshadowed by the iconicness of Wii and the popularity and longevity of 8/8 Deluxe

Gliding controls in mk7 are so mutch more snappier and enjoyable to use compared to 8 and 8D's weighty feel.

one of the gimmick you forgor to talk about is the new lap system on some tracks, being the 2 wuhu tracks and rainbow road. basically for those who don't know is instead of taking 3 laps of the same layout you have one huge track with 3 "big checkpoints" adding a lap to the lap count by passing them replacing it great addition ngl

for anyone wondering, the reason why wuhu island and mountain loop and rainbow road are so long, they’re all one massive lap long split into 3 sections

And now the online multiplayer for both 3ds and wii u is closing on April 2024, it really felt like mk7 and vanilla mk8 will be forgotten.

If it had VS mode for single player, this would probably be my favorite Mario Kart.

The real reason it is so forgotten is because it's a 3DS game, I literally can't cite a franchise where the 3DS entry isn't the forgotten, looked over one. Pokémon XY, Smash for 3DS, Mario 3D land, a link between world, New Super Mario Bros 2, ... I think being one of the most recent handheld just made a lot of RU-vid influencers did not really took this console seriously as opposed to the Wii for exemple, and the fact that it is seen as not remembered is amplified by being talked about this way. I wish the console as a whole was more respected because as someone who grew up with it, it has an incredibly solid lineup of game and feels very complete.

MK7 rainbow road always gives me chills lol. Slingshotting around the rings of Saturn, ramping off the moon's craters, and then getting shot out of a canon and having to dodge asteroids as you close in on the finish line... It's honestly the best level in the game for me

For me, the fact that this game has no VS mode has killed its replayability.

MK7 still utilizes the glider feature in the most interesting ways in the series with the unique skips it enabled.

My only gripe with Mario Kart 7 (besides Waluigi not being in) is the lack of a versus mode. It was always a nice option to pick an individual course to race on rather than playing through a set list with the grand prix. If this game came out today, people would have absolutely been angry with it's exclusion.

I played MK7 quite a bit as a kid and it was one of the first Mario Kart games I played too. I think it’s still memorable and I really think it somewhat holds up today and is a decent entry into the series. This game certainly was the foundation for Mario Kart 8 and it still has aspects that are seen in later entries.

Did y’all know that the real reason why Waluigi is not in MK7 is because the developers thought he would be “too scary for the players” Players are more scared of the piano, big eel, The Creepy Moon, and more than Waluigi.

My biggest flaw with Mariokart 7 was the fact that were was NO single-player VS mode. Because of that, I haven't wanted to go back and replay it. Even though you could add 7 Ghosts to your time-trials to make it feel like an 8-player race, it got boring pretty fast. While I do agree that there were a lot of good things added to this game and later brought into MK8/MK8D, removing a key single-player feature has made me view the whole game less favorably.

The biggest thing nobody talks about is how much better the core engine was in 7 over 8. Idk what they were cooking with 8, but gliding is way more hand-holdy and limited than 7, to the point where it just feels like a cutscene, and being underwater hardly handles any differently in 8 either. 7 had a far superior engine imo.

The course selection theme is still one of the best to this day-along with Wii’s. Especially since the theme builds up as you progress through the character, kart, and cup/track selection

This game holds quite possibly the largest staple in my childhood, its so underappreciated man! Playing it everyday in my 5th grade lunch with my entire table doing 8 player local multiplayer was such a blast! And being the best at the table along with one of my other childhood friends was such an awesome feeling because we were always a hot topic when it came to who was better or who was gonna take the lead that day, so many good memories were made playing this game everyday, and the fact that you could still play through ds download play even if you didnt have the game was such a cool thing to add for those that didn't or couldn't get the game themselves! Call me nostalgia blinded but this was honestly one of the best games ever introduced in the series and my personal favorite. AND ROSALINAS ICE WORLD!!!! UGHHH!

It's honestly not a horrible game as the retro track selection is fantastic. It's more that its new tracks (except for its Rainbow Road, Music Park, DK Jungle, Wario Shipyard and the Wuhu tracks) aren't as memorable compared the other games in the series, and the glider mechanic was fine but not game changing in a sense, except for vehicle customisations, which were cool. I think as well when you have a game sandwiched between 2 of the most popular, loved and best selling games in the Mario Kart Series being Wii and 8 Deluxe, its chances of being popular do decrease unfortunately.

Mario Kart 7 is the middle child. It came directly after the most popular game in the series, and directly before the current game that never seems to die and took all of 7's innovations. It's basically always going to be looked down on as lesser despite being an important step, arguable more important of a step than 8 was.

I was always severely disappointed in Mario Kart 7 because of the lack of Single-Player VS, the #1 most important mode in Mario Kart history! (Tied with Free Run from MKSC) I mean come on, really! When E3 2011 showcased Mario Kart 3DS, I was really excited for it, got me thinking that MK7 would be above average, when in the actual end, it was (and still is) the complete opposite of that, being below average! When I found out that MK7 lacked Single-Player VS mode, I was very pissed & devastated because not only was that a completely unnecessary downgrade for the Mario Kart series, but also because never prior to Mario Kart 7 was there ever a handheld/portable Mario Kart game that lacked One Course Race modes in Single-Player gameplays! A huge disgrace to Mario Kart's modernization & evolution! Not to mention it was recently patched out of the blue in 2022 without even fixing any of it's actual problems, including the one I just ranted about. In conclusion, I actually am really happy for people who somehow manage to enjoy this game, but I definitely don't see how Mario Kart 7 could be considered underrated, given how not only was the lack of Single-Player VS Mode a game-defining problem, but MK7 was also actually one of the best-selling 3DS games in the world, that's not necessarily to say that it's overrated though, but still. And yes, I know that Mario Kart Double Dash also lacked Single-Player VS Mode too, but that's a whole different story that I'm not gonna explain right now, since this comment is already way too long enough as it is.

Mk7 gave us 3ds rainbow road, so I automatically forgive the game of any faults.

I know it's just a brief thing at the beginning, but "infamous" means it's well known for bad reasons, so it wouldn't make sense to call MK Wii infamous I see a lot of people make this mistake

MK7 is so much fun. This and DS are probably my favorites. I love how CTGP-7 has giving it even more life.

Mario Kart 7 isn’t my favorite, but it was part of my childhood, I gotta say it is a pretty great game if I’m being honest.

The biggest problem MK7 has is that it's probably the grindiest game in the series, which is crazy to say since MKW and MK8 exist. Otherwise, it's probably the 3rd best game in the series, behind Wii and Deluxe.

I do like some amount of 7's original tracks, but I remember when 8 came out and I realized which tracks from 7 came back, I was kind of indifferent since none of those were really the tracks I liked to go back to.

The most underrated thing about it are its battle maps they were the best and I really wish they were brought back for mk8d

I have a lot of nostalgia for Mario Kart 7 (and the 3DS in general), sure it was inferior to both MKWii and MK8 but it’s not total shit. It had some cool concepts and great new tracks (especially the Wuhu Island tracks and Rainbow Road). I was constantly playing this game on my 3DS during 2013-2018 before I got my Nintendo Switch in 2019 since my family gave away our Nintendo Wii. MK7, along with Super Mario 3D Land, was my most played game on my 3DS since it was one of the only games I had and I’m surprised I never got bored with playing it 24/7. I never touch my 3DS nowadays since I now have my own Wii and Switch, but it’s still a damn underrated system with a library of really good games that don’t get nearly as much recognition simply because of where they come from. At least MK7 doesn’t have the coin item.

I liked it. The music was dope, the gliding was fun and so were the mini games. Also, the music where you're choosing your character is awesome. I love how the more choices you make, the more complex the music got.

The two Wuhu Island tracks are the best and most unique tracks in the history of Mario Kart. I really hope they add at least 1 to MK8D in the DLC

I just opened Mario Kart 7 for the first time in years yesterday. This video coming out today is the world telling me to play more of it.

This game was the best at high school. I spent so many lunchtimes racing my friends.

This game was the first mario kart I owned, so it is very important to me. I think my favourite thing it did for the series is the 3-section tracks like Wuhu Island Loop and Rainbow Road.

I think we need to expose more people to actual bad games cause MK7 isn't even close to bad. No mario kart is even close.

The retro track selection of Mario Kart 7 was pretty much perfect, and I say this as someone who can nitpick with the best of them. However, the game somehow included literally ALL my most-wanted retro tracks, I couldn't believe my eyes!

What people don't know is that it's pretty easy to accidentally lose all your Mario kart 7 data

Man I grew up on this game and Mario Kart DS, these two games will always be in my memories.

I remember when I was a kid in the suburbs having my friend come over to spend the night with his Nintendo 3DS and we played this and many other games until the sunrise! Good times, if only I could go back

One day when I visited my dad for the weekend he brought me to the kitchen, he walked up to the fridge and reached for a small box. It was a brand new 3DS that came with a copy of Mario Kart 7. I played that thing so much. Even 8 years later in my freshman year (2020) my friends and I were playing Mario kart 7 with everyone owning a different version of the system with me still using my original 3DS. I beat and my first Pokémon game (Pokémon Omega Ruby) on that 3DS, and it was genuinely an astonishing and an impactful experience. A couple years ago I got a 2DS XL for Christmas and retired my original 3DS. Currently it sits in a box of trinkets in the closet of my dirty lil apartment. I love my 3DS :,)

I mean in MK7 what feels different from 8 and why I like to go back on it is the physics. They are so different and allow for more satisfying stuff to be done. Like, in 7 the water physics were much more exaggerated than in 8, the floatiness is more present and it can be offputting when going back, and same for the glider which allows you to do some real funky stuff at times, nothing like that to be done in 8 except for motion glider and that electrodrome 200 wr thing.

I loved Mario Kart 7 as well. It definitely did set the groundwork for Mario Kart 8/Deluxe with custom vehicle parts, gliders and underwater sections. My friends and I had a blast with it for years. I don't understand the hate for it. I mostly play Mario Kart 8 Deluxe now, but Mario Kart 7 is still fantastic (except for maybe the rampant hackers online).

I’ve been playing alot of mk7 the past year, mostly grinding inline to get to 10k vr before the 3ds online dies. And it’s a shame such a fantastic game gets overshadowed so much.

getting 10kVR for that golden kart was a blast on this game. as far as i can remember the online service was great never really ran into many problems

Even in Highschool (2016-2020) me and my friends would play this game local multiplayer in school and on the bus to marching band competitions. Almost none of us even had the game but you didn’t need it to play multiplayer with people near you. It was great

Another thing I believe this game introduced was tracks that you don’t do laps on. I don’t remember any other MK having a track that you only go through once like Maka Wuhu and this game’s rainbow road.

Friday October 20th, 2023 I love MK7. I got the game(along with Super Mario 3D Land) on Sunday December 25th, 2011 and I still own them.

2 main issues that a big with this game No Waluigi and no vs mode

i owned a 2DS. And i lost the charger to it. But one of my friends also had a 2DS, and he had a charger. He let me borrow it, and he also gave me MK7. I spent most of my days playing that.

i think its super simple: mk7 is just overshadowed by 8 and 8D, especially since 7 is 3ds only, and 8 and 8d are on main consoles. everyone who played 7 just moved on to 8 afterwards, aside from a niche following.

I grew up with DS & Wii Mario Kart, so when the trailer for this game out, I was astonished. Beautiful game to play on a handheld. The new mechanics and vehicle customization was just 👌, oh, and Coconut Mall, plus one of the best Rainbow Road tracks!

MK7 is the most skill based Mario Kart, played hundreds of hours on that shit and almost never felt screwed by the COM, other players, or items. I will forever stand by MK7 being the greatest Mario Kart of all time

One thing I’ll say about this game’s Rainbow Road, at the end where you’re going up facing the sun, I honestly thought the track was taking me STRAIGHT TO the sun and I freaked out and fell off the course cuz I didn’t wanna get cooked lmao

I grew up on and learned to play with mk7. If only I could still play it.

I had a new item idea in my dream last night. Metal shells! In my dream, they acted like green shells but hit harder and slowed the person down for longer, but another idea would be for them to be able to hit multiple targets, either by ramming through players or bouncing between them.

i had mk7 pre installed on my 2ds, that was the first year i got wifi as well back in 2016 and i used to play it for hours upon hours with my brother. i truly cherished my time spent playing it online.

I loved 7 when I was younger, but it’s really hard to say this game is worth going back to for most when the game before and after are arguably the two best games in the series (and are more accessible because everyone owned a Wii and everyone owns a Switch lol)

There are def some flaws I would change about it (like not having a vs mode which bummed me out), but it's still one that had it's own impact

It's quite odd that on a retrospective video, there is no part actually looking at what the game did wrong. What made people really hate MK7 (compared to the others) is the lack of VS mode in Single Player, the balance issues with the items, the extreme rubberbanding of the AIs, and the lowering of the skill ceiling for the game. People were coming from MkWii and MkDS. These 2 titles are to this day the most technical Mario Kart games, they reward good player more than any other title of the series. And then there is Mk7, the most casual title in all of Mario Kart, where you get 2 or 3 blue shell in a race on average and you can no longer dodge them. The lack of iconic playable characters like Waluigi is just the tip of the iceberg. Most people didn't like MK7 because of design choices that dumbed down the game, making it feel more like a party game than a racing game.

MK7 is by far my favorite. Neo Bowser City is my fav track of all time and the first person mode was my favorite way to play any game

MK7 was my MK Wii. It was the first game ive played on the nintendo 3Ds since i got one for my birthday and my second MK game after MK 64.

I wish Maka wuhu returned in booster pass...can you imagine gliding into the sunset in full nice HD?

The problem with Mario Kart 7 is that it is Mario Kart 8. All Mario Kart games are distinctive and have a different experience from the rest of the games, but the last two games are similar in a way that makes Mario Kart 7 seem like it is just an older version of Mario Kart 8.

MK7 has some tracks I would've wanted in MK8 Deluxe's booster course pack! Hopefully some make it into the next mario kart game

I love koppa city (neon bowser city) plus i love our version name... in pal because it says that it is a city for all koppas and you can see that in the background.

Love how this and Mario Kart DS brought a lot for such small, handheld consoles!!! The DS introduced retro courses, online play, and mission modes, while Mario Kart 7 implemented customizable parts, gliders, and the ability to drive underwater.

As someone who's only ever played the console games I have no idea.
