what about at the dinner when she orders clam chowder and the waiter suggests that the woman doesn't get the chowder cause he asked for clean food. the waiter acknowledged her

But it could be the same way on how Tyler was getting beat up by the guy who owned the bar

@@scornful008 I want to advocate for the "Marla Singer isn't real" theory but at the same time, you can tell he sits in his seat and she sits in hers. Not only this, but also the hallway scene when people are going to check on Marla in her room because they think she's dying. Marla calls out to them and they acknowledge her as well from my memory. The final example is Marla being swarmed when she gets in the bus that Narrator tells her to get in and the fact she got carried up the stairs by the henchmen in the final scene. They were fully interacting with her and with Narrator. This means they're 2 seperate entities, at least in my opinion.

@@KaiTheAussie that’s true. You’re probably right it does make sense.

People seem to forget that we aren't seeing the events unfold. We're seeing the events as told by the narrator. 😉

marla is acknowledged by the therapist n the waiter. ya vid conclusion is him embracing his feminisms. sounds SUPERWOKE. but the final visual is of him n her. WATCHING the result of his suppressed SUPER tyler masculinity. men with no dads, at the start of film. men being men together and working together. with a SUPER feminine female. POWER ANIMAL. this is the duality of humanity, endings visual. the result of his work is there for us all to see. she has to be there to SHE IS HIS POWER ANIMAL. OR IT COULD JUST BE A FILM. n you can read into it, oat you like with whatever views you have. IT'S A THEORY. just like evolution. it's not evolution facts is it. i dont really care if she's real or not. helen nails her performance. n this is still 1 of the best films i have ever seen. 10 out of 10 all day long, :-)

Marla's neighbors called the police/fire fighters for the suicide attempt...they did that for someone who isn't real? What about the space monkeys who all get up and follow Marla when she gets on the bus---are they imagining her too? How exactly did she order soup in the deli? Sorry, Marla is Fincher messing with you.
@joeymadstoned

So I agree Marla is real, but the bus scene argument you make isn’t the best. At this point the space monkeys are going after the narrator because he’s turned his back on project mayhem so it could simply be that the Marla we see on the bus is the narrator and the narrator we see watching the bus drive away isn’t real and is simply his imagination

The exploration of identity always fit best as the explanation of the movie for me. Jack's repressed masculinity and exploration of that part of himself as "Tyler". But when in the support groups the masculinity, faced with immediate death, doesn't matter and it's fitting that that's where we first meet Marla. Characters preparing for death or life-long battles with diseases requires emotional support and emotional intelligence. It's unglamorous but when putting in the work, Jack sleeps like a baby when helping others and is in turn helped himself. That's kind of the central conflict of the movie for me, Tyler has some answeres but following that path leads to unfathomable destruction whereas Marla's part of introspection, loneliness, community and caring is a much more difficult path to walk but it's the one Jack embraces in the end. Jack becoming Marla and trans-narratives - that's a bit of a reach, but as an exploration of the limits of masculinity it has a lot to offer. Loved the video. Tons of details I never noticed in the movie, well made and to the point while being very interesting.

Eh I feel like if we accept this than then entire movies ceases to exist. Everything is in jacks head Marla the house Robert Paulson the space monkeys everything is fake I don't buy it. We can hear in the background one of the support group members say see you next week marla. Are we supposed to assume jack is also physically showing up to groups as Marla before he really knows Marla?

I consider myself a bit of a cinephile and often pick up on details in movies my friends don't. I really appreciate the subtleties that film makers put in their movies. But you have shown me some remarkable details I missed in this masterpiece. A Like and a Sub for you! Look forward to seeing what else you're going to show me.

Crazier theory, Marla is Tyler's skewed view of Other random women he meets in life. Picture him having one sided convos with women he meets in life.😂

@joeymadstoned
@joeymadstoned 13 дней назад
Interesting theory, but Marla is 100% real. Tyler’s one rule is to not talk to Marla about him, that’s because she’s real and talking to her about Tyler will cause the narrator to become aware that he is Tyler. If they are all the same person there would be no issue talking about to her about Tyler because his broken psyche would’ve just gone along with it

1:40 you can see Marla's reflection and Tyler's reflection but it does give you a clue about the scene.

1:20 Marla did have a reflection in that ending scene. The lights are shining straight down so the light barely reflects unless they are really close to the wall.

ooorrr perhaps youre forcing our modern-day perception and acceptance of transgenderism and somewhat new considerations about gender in general on a movie from a few decades ago because hey, why not, it COULD fit...but it probably doesn't. youre forcing it here. if this movie was anything other than a biting critique on toxic masculinity and the stigma of mental illness AT THE TIME then we would have heard about it...why would someone create a work of art about transgenderism and not say ONE IOTA about it? for a future which they can't know will exist? unlikely.
@OsX86H3AvY
@OsX86H3AvY 3 месяца назад
dont get me wrong - i DO think marla was another alter-ego and was sexualized throughout the film of course but that doesnt point to transgenderism. nothing in the film does. it was progressive and memorable and unique but it wasn't prophetic.

He wasn’t having sex. It was Tyler and Marla having sex. Aka his two identities having sex aka him masturbating
@Jerry_Gallo

pretentious and stretched, you cannot force a theory this way. Marla is acknowledged by the guy in the support group that is trying to approach her one moment before Jack does the same by the woman in the second hand clothes shop by her neighbour that calls the police when she tried to commit suicide by the waiter in the restourant by the space monkeys when they kidnap her in the bus just look at how Tyler's interaction with the surrounding are managed in the movie and the theory collapses.

"Tyler" interacts with people too
@nise8531
@nise8531 3 дня назад
The simple fact that Tyler can also interact with people proves that this theory holds some water. The narrator is bat shit crazy. If we see two people interacting that doesn’t mean it is real. He isimagining it the same way he imagined Tyler
