marlin used to be my one of my favorite parts of watching this game. when it was new the best thing was watching people find new tech and combos and Marlin was one of the dudes who would always bring that stuff to tournaments.
Yup, I Won against him and his response to fChamp who was sitting behind him was “I hate this game, anyone can win” after I stomped him with Nova/Frank/Wesker
8 years later and I'm STILL getting goosebumps watching that side TAC doom combo. I like to go back, watch this video, and remind myself of why I started playing fighting games. because of SWAG COMBOOOOOOOOS
MarlinPie pretty much found that TAC concept before the infinites were found. He invented the Doom TAC infinite. The only difference is when he landed he did rocks with Doom instead of landing animation (again this was before the infinites were found). You have to remember that before EVO12 Marlin was doing really cool Doom combos that everyone loved seeing. He was well known waaaaaaaay before this match.
Sol Badguy Marlinpie is the swag master to bad he stopped I liked Zak Doormamu Combo better to bad it's a small character only combo but he made made firebrand he started all the unlockable firebrand swoop setups with Dorm and Doom he basically made Aplogyman current team
Sol Badguy yeah him and combofiend showed how marvel should be played in their 11 game set combo was always my favorite it's hard to watch the new meta of UMVC3 because all we realty see is bland doom combos Dante Vergil Morgan Magneto same teams over and over again nobody searching for new tech they just use the BnBs
2:47 is the best part of the video. the commentators are so animated about the fight. he manages to keep his air combo going after landing back dashing twice jumping to low punch!!!
He has multiple projectiles, one of which fills every angle of the screen except vertical, he is capable of extremely long high damage combos completely unassisted; it's even possible for him to OTG in a single combo three times unassisted and still connect with any of his hypers if he chooses. His boot dive has very high priority, making it nullify most counter attacks and is still safe-recoverable a feature no other character has. And all three of his assists are valuable.
Awesome assist, easy to learn combo that links either a lvl1 hyper or a lvl 3. Can combo in air off an TAC. Projectiles with decent durability. Awesome air dash. What else do you want from a character to make him look top tier?
His molecular shield can extend combos, his plasma beam assist has multiple hits and knocks back which creates unblockable attacks for several characters such as wolverine, and Hidden missles controls the environment, giving your team a safety blanket your opponent cannot attack through and can be used as an extremely effective OTG in the middle of combos as well as extend combos that would've naturally ended sooner. He even has high life to boot. Basically he has many strengths and no weakness
In the UMVC game Marlin pi made the (Doom) TAC Infinite notorious. Look up marlin pi doom infinite. Now I dont know if youve ever played the game, but doing these specific combos after an air exchange require Extremly specific timing and TONS of practice. Some TACs, are harder than others depending on the character. Doom's is undoubtably the most seen but really started with Marlin Pi. And in this video he does what I have never seen before continuing an air exchange in the middle of the screen
You have to air dash in order to keep combos like that Doom TAC going on. Sure it may be flashy but what else would there be to do if he didn't air dash in order to continue attacking?

This was one of those moments where it was awesome and I don't mind them using it here. It IS overused but they said it only for that moment, not degrading how much of a compliment it was.
Character with two amazing assists, ground bouncing special, access to long ass flight combos, easy combos that a shit load of damage, air dash cancel-able normals, self-otg normals that link into more combos. Do I need to say more?
the best part about that combo is how james was just like "oh just gonna do it in the middle of the screen like that huh" all regular and then the crazy fly cancels started happening and he loses his mind lml
he kinda invented it in the guide it has the tac m&m's finish with the laser but that's it, Marlin Pie must have figured out the beam juggling and well everything else!
There are quite a few characters with TAC Infinites in this game like Nova and Storm. His contender for best is debatable (he is easily zoned out by of all characters, Sentinel), but it is undeniable that Doom is one of the best utility characters for meshing well in any team.
If you manually tech a partner in, you lose the red health. However, if you TAC, or DHC into another partner, with remaining red health, they will still keep it. It's pretty useful.
