White house doctor is DO

I have the same exact situation! I had the Loyola interview in September this cycle and have been on hold for a final decision since. I ended up with 9 interviews from DO schools and several acceptances but I feel/felt the same exact emotions. Thank you for being so vulnerable and sharing! DOs are legitimate physicians and I know we will both be amazing doctors and wholeheartedly dedicated to our patients.

What a coincidence 😊 well congratulations on all your interviews! How exciting to see all your hard work pay off, that’s amazing. Soak up this time & try to reflect on everything in your life so far that’s gotten you to this point. It’ll give you a good footing when going into medical school. You’re going to do great, let me know if you have any questions!

I am a program director of an only osteopathic family medicine program in the midwest and I am proud of our heritage. We have a huge interest and participation of my fine MD staff colleagues to learn more about OMT, practice the basics, and seek to understand. They in turn can supervise our DO residents with more confidence, and when appropriate, challenge them to do better. We teach OMT to our MD residents in sister sites, and they are begging for more. Though acgme and aoa merger threatens to water down osteopathic education, the hidden upside is more exposure, understanding, and collegial training... for the betterment of our patients.

I’m in an MD school but we have DO professors who are also clinicians and I’ve shadowed and worked with a ton of DOs. Some of them in very competitive specialties and perfectly capable and extremely intelligent!

Wonderful video! A good percent of physicians who went to medical school around my age are DOs. Here are their specialities: 2, Family Medicine 1, Neonatology 1, Dermatology I also know of a number of MDs in the same age bracket. Their specialties are: 2, Emergency Medicine 1, Diagnostic Radiology Of the DO physicians I'm aware of on RU-vid: 1, Interventional Radiology 1, Family Medicine To me, a physician is a physicians no matter if they have MD or DO behind their name. What matters is their competence, their ability to relay information to the patient, and their bedside manners. Though anecdotal, I went to a urologist who graduated from a top 20 MD school who had horrific bedside manners. Another specialist, a nephrologist, graduated from a non-ranked MD school that mainly sent its graduates to work in rural towns, was relatively kind and a good listener in comparison. Plus, if you receive good training and supervision during residency and/or fellowship, it evens out in that aspect.

Hi there, I want to thank you for the honesty in this video. Im currently applying to MD and DO right now, and I think the stigma really got to me about applying to DO, seeing it as a 'back up' rather than a choice I want. With physical shadowing being limited from COVID, I felt unsure about applying with low experience in the first place. I did anthro in undergrad and attend a cadaver lab rn with DPTs and I am seeing how useful OMT/OMM can be. Your story, and the way you described your time with that DO physician really moved me. It's about what we can do for the patient, not a title to show off to our peers. I submit my application the end of this month and I have my fingers crossed for a DO school!! :D

Thank you for sharing!! This is a stressful time but it also can be really fun if you let yourself let go of control. What I have learned the most is how easy it is to overlook so many important moments in life because we are always pushing for the next step. Intentionality I think gets hard for students when we are always busy. The DO philosophy, in my opinion, helps you be focused and more intentional with patients. You physically take your time to assess what’s wrong & take that extra couple minutes to see how they’re doing. It’s something all doctors should aim to do but DO’s do it well 😊

I prefer DO doctors. I insist on DO's for my wife and I, it's what doctoring should be. Treatment of the whole person, not just the symptom.

Thank you for your honest perspective. I’d love to get the name of that physician that you were inspired by at the end if you’re able to.

Hi there, I really enjoyed hearing your thoughts on OMT and especially the change in heart! What an incredible testimony. I'm applying to med school for the first time this year (commented on another one of your videos) and will probably apply DO mostly depending on my MCAT score. My biggest question has been about OMT- is it worth learning, does it work, etc. It's great to hear stories like yours. Thanks for the great content it's helpful to students like me. Question I have for you- after your experience, will you likely start using OMT in practice?

Thank you Nick! I am really glad that they have been able to be helpful. That's the best thing I could hope for out of RU-vid. Well, congratulations on applying! It is a daunting task but it also can be really exciting when you think about it in perspective. If you do end up at a DO school, I can tell you that there will be days or seasons where you'll be tempted to doubt if you made the right choice. Institutions definitely still have a bias towards the MD title. That being said, patients love DO's. I have had so many people tell me how they prefer their DO doctors because of the kindness and well-rounded care they give. You also get to be part of a movement where doctors come in different forms. You are constantly humbled and reminded to look at what you can do for the medical field instead of what they medical field can do for you. America thankfully allows this kind of diversity in medicine and I honestly do believe it is a blessing to be apart of the privilege. Now to answer your question, I most definitely will do OMT. I hope to be a part of a residency program that can mentor me on how it looks for children. Otherwise, ill attend conferences and seek the opportunities on my own to learn.

Osteopathic doctors will always have a sense of inferiority complex due to the lower admission standards on average.Having said that, if the schools were cheaper, there may some financial benefit.

Very true. My osteopathic school was the most expensive of all the medical schools in California.

This video is really informative! I have been trying to look for an educational RU-vid vid that informs the ideas in this video. 👨‍⚕️ 👩‍⚕️ That explanation at 1:31 is my favorite. Your breakdown is like the videos of Doctor Ethan! Doctor Ethan's tips are knowledgable and I actually learned a lot for my school! He is an educational health enthusiast on RU-vid and he talks about diseases. I recommend you see his RU-vid out and give Dr Ethan a like here! 👉 #DrEthanOnline

I loved the video so much! I've been trying to find for an awesome vid that informs the topics in this RU-vid video. 👏Your video is similar to the channel of Dr. Ethan! Dr's demonstrations are for sure helpful and he actually helped me a lot on finals! He is a informative med student! I recommend you check his channel out and give the medical student a like over here! ➡️ #DoctorEthanQandA

Be proud to be DO but also accept the stigma as well. You went to DO because you couldn't get into MD and that's ok. You are still receiving somewhat of a similar training as MDs (or identical). But you still couldn't get into MD school which are more competitive and requires higher MCAT score and GPA and more extracurricular activities etc.
