@@Brianycus Even Street fighter only gets a new game a console generation Resident Evil gets a new game every year I kind of hate Resident Evil to be honest
Capcom is 100% at fault. We've done everything. We've bought MM11, we've bought the legacy collections, we've bought the Kotobukiya model kits, we've bought the art books, we've bought games that were made in the vein of Mega Man, we've developed fan games, we've bought and read the comics, we've done EVERYTHING. There's nothing left to do on our side. We have money to throw at it, but they won't give us money to throw at it. At this point I think Capcom needs to just let go of Mega Man and sell it to someone who will work with this IP.
Hm. You are half right, in a TL;DR, Capcom doesn't advertise Megaman as this must have game, also it does not help tgeae games cab be cleared under 2 houra if you are casual, ad the games themselves are 40$ minimum. People of coursw lose interes ans the only way to make MM gamwa interesting is to do a pseudo open world with quest like MMZX
The problem with companies is that they don't want to invest. They want guarantees which means a very narrow, formulaic system.. It's impossible for every game to be a banger. Sometimes a team needs practice. Something can't improve if it's not given opportunities to, and something NEVER improves or grows if it's left derelict.
Even if a game does not exceed on sales and breaks even, just having decent sales is good enough, overtime, the game stays on the market and keeps selling after its release after years. There's just no lose to it.
@@invader2867 that's not how it works. A game worth is tested within the first few months of its release since that's when it makes most of its money per sale.
The problem isn’t if megaman makes money, it’s if it makes more money than capcoms other products Capcom has a lot of franchises. Many of them have been dumped even though they were well liked or possibly made a profit. At the end of the day, capcom will put more resources in monster hunter, resident evil, and street fighter because that makes the most money. The other franchises they’ll throw a bone once in a while, or in the case of project justice about three decades.
Don't forget about Devil May Cry. I think the main problem is that, in the last five or so years, Capcom has focused entirely on the development of AAA games, leaving aside the development of smaller titles like Mega Man or Ace Attorney. It's very different from what other companies like Square-Enix or Bandai Namco have managed to do, i.e. making big and smaller games, and a total opposite from what Konami has managed to achieve in Japan with Momotaro Dentetsu (a low budgeted title, based on an old IP from Hudson Soft, that has managed to sell millions of copies) Street Fighter is an interesting case, since while the series is the most famous fighting game of all time and it sells quite well, it doesn't actually sell as much as other games like Mortal Kombat or Tekken, but Capcom has succeed in reviving the brand and with 6 it seems they have managed to attract both a hard-core and a casual auidience. Though sadly, outside of some hardcore fans, Darkstalkers never had enough fans to guarantee a new game, and very few companies can actually maintain more than one fighting game series, even Namco has put less emphasis on Soul Calibur, and instead they have focused primarily on Tekken. Only SNK seems to be able to make multiple fighting games (KoF, Samurai Shodown and Fatal Fury), though that's because out of all the games they used to make, people associate SNK mostly with fighting games, and they even admit that they want to diversify their repertoire.
The more time goes on without a new game, the more I feel Mega Man 11 was just Capcom throwing us a bone after the many cancelled Mega Man games in the 2010's. Now, 5 years after Mega Man 11, there's no word on a Mega Man 12, or any new Mega Man games at all.
I almost feel that Capcom made MM11 just to piss on Inafune, maybe in their minds they weren't thinking that it would sell but in turn it just opened a Pandora's box.
@@virtualpellot933 Or maybe just to say, "hey, look guys, Mega Man is not dead!" It's weird how they went from milking the Mega Man franchise during the 2000's to more or less killing the franchise after Mega Man 10. From one extreme to the other.
@@NeoKokoro20 I don't think they should do that same mistake of dropping an annual MM game, but now it's worse due to nowadays Capcom drops RE and/or MH practically annually and only that, hardly anything else! At least during the 2000s they weren't over reliant on just MM games as they worked on other stuff and they could experiment on new, original IPs/games.
Apparently the reason for why there has been no mega man 12 is because of the fact that mega man is nowhere near as popular nor influential as he used to be so Capcom just doesn't want to put in the effort into making a game that they think people won't buy.
@@ashuraomega1000 So basically Capcom's claims that MM11 and Legacy collections sold "great" and that they are "satisfied" and "working" on a few MM games were just lies as usual, correct? Maybe they said that and filled people with false hope was to keep people of their hair and draw fake smiles when in reality that wasn't the case at all isn't it?
Crazy as hell that we’re in a world where Sega is actually gonna give us new games for Jet Set Radio, Crazy Taxi, and Golden Axe, to name a few, but Capcom just will not do anything with Mega Man despite the fact that there are clearly people out there that still love these games.
Not just Mega Man, I can't see Capcom making new games for some of their old games like Dino Crisis, Final Fight, Star Gladiator, Rival Schools, Commando, Gun.Smoke, Captain Commando, Strider, Cyberbots, etc. They've focused mainly on their big franchises that have been huge hits worldwide, like Resident Evil, Monster Hunter, Devil May Cry and Street Fighter
@@pablocasas5906 Some of those, I get at least. Good as they are, games like Rival Schools and Captain Commando never got a lot of traction at the time of release and are only really remembered by people who played them back in the day-or in the case of Captain Commando, if you really liked MvC2. But Mega Man was a Capcom mainstay and breadwinner for actual decades. I get they have other series that exploded in popularity, but that’s because they didn’t get like a row of games cancelled all at once. It’s insane to me that, outside of 11, the newest Mega Man game I can think of is a mobile spinoff.
@@SoggyHotDoggyI cited some obscure and old Capcom games because I think they have the potetntial to get revivals, in the vein of what SEGA recently announced. In fact, back in the early 2000s, Capcom tried to revive Gun.Smoke as a new game being developed by Angel Studios, the same studio that managed to port Resident Evil 2 to the Nintendo 64, they went so far as to sent one of Capcom's main artists, Akiman, to the U.S. to make concept art, but in the end Capcom cancelled the project but let Angel Studios to keep the IP, and they were later acquired by Rockstar and that Gun.Smoke revival became Read Dead Revolver, which its sequel became Red Dead Redemption, so that means that Capcom have plenty of old IPs that could become huge AAA franchises
Capcoms not half bad though, i understand being angry that there is nothing for MM but atleast we get things like monster hunter and even a new Dragons dogma. Idk know how many people know about this but Capcom also has a very cool indie game called shinsekai, i would like to see a new entry here as well. It was a really creative underwater metroidvania
If it's not a dude throwing hadokens, super agents killing zombies, or monster hunting, it seems like they don't care. I love Megaman. MM11 did well but for some reason they are only chasing the money with their big 3 franchises. A new Strider, Final Fight & especially a new Bionic Commando (my personal favorite series 😎) would be sooo awesome
It really seems that Capcom, and most Japanese developers that aren't Nintendo, SEGA due to its recent announcements and Square-Enix, do not care about that much about developing smaller games, instead focusing only on AAA games maketed for the West. The same thing happens with Namco in that they just focus in big franchises like Tekken, while other games like Pac-Man or Klonoa being relegated to having remakes, while other franchises like Ridge Racer haven't had a game in years. I know that these big companies like to prioritize big game that will bring in millions of copies sold, but they should diversify their ouput with smaller titles and try to revive some old titles. SNK have said that they're exploring the possibility of reviving their older games like Athena/Psycho Soldier and Art of Fighting Ironically, Konami is one of the few Japanese developers that managed to make a million-seller with a new version of an old Hudson Soft title with Momotaro Dentetsu, which became their best-selling game in Japan
I wouldnt say MM is dead, but rather CAPCOM isnt striking while the iron is hot. Tens of millions of people, myself included, bought that NT Warrior Legacy collection, so clearly people love the series and the franchise in general. A smart person wouldlve had a new game ready and waiting in the event that the number of units sold for the Legacy collection was positive. They couldlve had something ready to show in the Gaming Awards so the Idea of Megaman stayed in our minds in the New Year. Not to say that cant still happen, but why drag their feet.
I feel like they don't understand that Mega Man can still give them profit, so long as they stick to a reasonable budget. MM11 works because it was done in that manner and sold really well. Plus, when you tihink about it, Mega Man is like the Metroid of Capcom now. It can still ring profit based on the circumstances of that franchise.
That's backwards logic. Companies are not unhappy to miss out on cash, they're unhappy to pour in millions of dollars and only be treated with entitlement, that the investment should be a public service. As if "just having a game ready" is nothing. They invested in the past to put all these creatives together, to create and HAVE these briliant IP's that they can now preserve and spread to NEW audiences. That's the whole point of owning something, that it keeps makng money. But the same West, that created this overbearing "intellectual" property economy of usury, now says that monetizing somthing you own is LAZY. That you should conjure up more and more investment money until the probablity of investments failing reaches 100%. If you like the idea of a title being created ONCE, and then the company just keeps working steadily for ever and ever for a pipeline of new iterations, to have "a new game ready", that's been done. That's the basic economic model of USSR and China, and that's also how art and science grants by governments keep non-profit work going on.
Anyone miss that Street Fighter X Megaman PC Game? I wish that would get ported to consoles, you would think Capcom would milk that since they love Street Fighter.
@@Majinhero Then I mixed it up with the 38 million units sold in the franchise overall, not that it matters. Either way, enough people bought it ot justify another game.
Even if they think Mega Man is outdated, a Mega Man Legends 3 would be a no-brainer. Especially cuz his name = cash. Blow our minds. I think developers need to stop restricting themself by the past and allow things to naturally evolve. Mario Wonder is a great example of this. It switched up a ton of things in the formula, but fundamentally, it still feels and plays like a Mario game. It's like they're not even trying or inspired anymore. Or make a fully 3D Mega Man X title 🤷🏻♂️ Glad you brought up Legends 3 too tho. I think it's also because Inafune's leave... No one was as adamant on releasing Mega Man as that guy. It's like... They hope we forget about Mega Man or something.
If Mega Man goes down, it marks the end of an entire internet era So much of the more vintage gaming community revolves around Mega Man Let's keep shooting our lemons, Mega Man fans
I’m hoping for a Mega Man World Legacy Collection because we were gonna have one alongside the original anniversary collection way back when but it got cancelled
I often hear that the reason why Mega Man 11 was created to begin with was because Capcom wanted to spite Inafune for his failed attempt at making his own Mega Man game. And as the years go by, with no real news on major game announcements, I can't help but be black-pilled on the Blue-Bomber himself.
@@227someguy It could possibly be that too, but if that were to be the case, I'd agrue we'd have an X9 by now because of how well the X Collection Sold worldwide.
It's actually hard to greenlight anything the execs or shareholders consider to not be profitable, they don't live in the same dimension the gamers n devs do, they see the whole industry in a different way to profit than just give what the fans, unless they let a small team do it with low budget is mostly impossible any fan demand will be done, ofc it depends on company to company but the consensus is how much they can profit considering how much they'll invest, it includes possible deeds with other companies in case of sharing some rights to something n the localization n platforms and the price n marketing etc
MegaMan is like Astro Boy, Mecha anime, Sentai series. The problem is that all of those things are becoming less popular in sales. Unless they reinvent him like in Legends or when they partnered with IntiCteates, I think we will see occasional cameos, gatcha games and a handful of releases until then.
Megaman 11 was the highest selling game in the franchise's history. It doesn't sell as well as Resident Evil, but 1.6 million units is nothing to scoff at.
@@dr.ramilo84 It's not going down, it's just niche. It will never go away, but, it's not going to be as big as it was before when robots were what we thought was going to be the future.
@@nicodalusong149 I agree that mecha anime is kind of a niche genre nowadays, it seems like the only mecha shows that still get attentions are those which are sequels to old franchises, like Gundam, Macross and Mazinger. That, and the fact that there aren't a lot of animators that can draw mechas by hand, most shows outside of Gundam rely to much on CGI mechs I don't know how can I can compare that with the Mega Man series, outside of the facct that it seems Capcom has relied too much on AAA games since the last 5 or 10 years, and have almost abandoned the developent of smaller games. It could be attributed to the fact that game development has become even more expensive since the transition to HD, which means that smaller and shorter games. I mean, back in the 8-bit and 32-bit era Capcom's gaming lineup was incredible diverse, nowadays they only focus on AAA games like Resident Evil, Devil May Cry, Monster Hunter and Street Fighter
Megaman legends 3 was the way to go and the 3DS was the perfect platform for it ): still can happen on switch or next nintendo console or wherever though
I think the issue with Megaman, is that Capcom feels like they've already done everything they could've done about the series, I just think they're lacking ideas how to evolve the series while keeping it "Megaman".

The one thing that gives me hope is that Capcom's investors specifically asked: 1. Are there going to be more collections after the success of the BN Legacy Collections? 2: What's the future of the IP Capcom mentioned both the success of MM11 and the LCs as well as the fact that Mega Man is one of their "historic IPs". They even said that they're considering how to approach future projects, meaning that the interest and plan is there. Also, the fact that the investors want more Mega Man means they pretty much have to at least be aware of the demand. I think it's a mixture of COVID slowing down work and Capcom's risk-averse model of pumping out RE and MH non-stop to support them during COVID. I mean, the BN Legacy Collection was supposed to be announced much earlier than it actually was since it was supposed to coincide with the series' anniversary. It seems like Capcom is still lagging behind in terms of their non-AAA IPs since it's been all hands on deck for the last few years. I'm confident that there will eventually be a new, original Mega Man game. I just don't know if it will be soon or in the next several years. Depending on if Taisen got canned or not, we could be waiting a hot minute for the next entry.
Have you heard the development teams comments on Mega Man's absence and how Mega Man 11 came to be? It's pretty interesting. It sums up to nobody wanting to take the mantle when it came to Mega Man because of the legacy behind it. And when they had gotten a director, before the games development he made them play every Mega Man game, including X6. Pretty cool how dedicated they were to delivering a great game.
@@Brianycus you probably have to take in to consideration the high expectancy from fans. (especially with the millions of mega man fangames) we may have unintentionally set the bar Too high for Capcom.
Unfortuntately but I am confident they will deliver. Kinda like how they don't want Ace Attorney to die out with how much they want to bring more for the series@@valkyriehero6271
Fun(?) fact: Protoman is Megaman’s older brother and Roll is Megaman’s younger sister so that means the Megaman is the middle child which is the only logical explanation as to why Capcom keeps forgetting about his existence
You know its sad when even SquareEnix of all companies has started releasing sequels to their legacy games such as the new Mana game and Saga game announced. They remade each Mana game over the last few years to gauge interest and it clearly succeeded so a new game got greenlit. Saga had no such thing but they still greenlit a new project for it regardless. Wish Capcom would take notes instead of releasing the same 3 games over and over (SF, RE, MH)
I so want to see the Archie Comic series of Mega Man continue. I would definitely kill for a Battle Network revamp featuring new mechanics such as better graphical interface instead of white textboxes (akin to the futuristic look of Mega Man Zero), better variety of NPCs, a more epic storyline that lives up to the X series, bigger battlefields instead of the 6x3 grid you're restricted to, plus more.
How to know if Capcom will make a new MegaMan game: A)Can they sell the same game at least twice to customers? B)Can they sell it as live service? C)Can they sell you a NES length game at 50 bucks with 25 bucks worth of DLCs?
I am a newcomer to the MegaMan games. I love MM 11 and it inspired me to buy all of the other collections for my 3ds and my switch. They better not let this great character die! He awesome.
Welcome to the community, Justine! There's a lot to like about MM. ^_^ And honestly yeah, it would be a shame. Still, fans make a lot of work to show that it would be very difficult for Megaman to completely disappear.
But yeah. I think Capcom’s main focus for the Mega man franchise is to get all the Legacy Collections out there and test out if Fans and causals/ newcomers are willing to buy them. I’m kind of a bit nervous as to how they are going to make a mega Man Legends legacy collection. Will they simply port all 2 games (Including tron Bonne?), have them Remastered or give us the option of both? Will they also give out Analog Support for the first legends game ? since it didn’t support that controller option back in the days of Early 1997. It’s unheard of.. As for the StarForce Collection how will they Handle 2 Screens? Will the top Screen transition to the bottom one or can you switch between two etc?
Not entirely sure as there were elements of the game that required extensive touch screen inputs (e.g., drawing symbols on Mu Guardians, SF1 in general, etc.). ZX and ZXA could get away with having a smaller bottom screen that could have touch elements activated with a button command, but Star Force requires some reworking (like how the Star Force DX fan made patch fixed things).
People that want a high budget next gen Megaman, you're not getting that not without some major compromises because if they want to blow a lot on this franchise, they're not making a 2D game, they're making a 3rd person shooter Megaman possibly an over the shoulder 3rd Person shooter, at best, you're getting Ratchet and Clank, maybe Zero May Cry but at that point they'll just make DMC6. I suspect it's because of that, Megaman is stuck in limbo, everyone is probably going to war in Capcom with how to bring this franchise to the modern age. If Capcom really considers Megaman as a tier 1 franchise they will not waste Megaman to make a AA game even if they will make a AAA game later on. But even if Capcom doesn't consider Megaman tier 1, I still don't think they can make AA games for it because I don't think they want to make AA games.
Yeah it's unfortunate that the Mega Man franchise is in this state. Not that the franchise is completely dead or anything, but rather the fact that Capcom won't actually push the Mega Man series as much as they push their other franchises. Hopefully one day Capcom will realize how much money we're willing to throw at the Mega Man series 😆
Capcom has an easy gold mine with megaman X, Legends and things like Starforce. If Kirby can still be successful, Sonic making a whole revival, and indie metroidvania games like Hollow Knight and Metroid can thrive, damn sure Megaman can. The lore is there, the characters are there, and the gameplay is most definitely there.
Exactly. They need to bring him back and at leat finish some of what he started. The only series to have a proper conclusion was Mega Man Zero. The rest need their closures too.
i always loved megeman, but i think its too hard for kids these days. they cant stand dying and starting a level over and they dont want to work at getting better at anything.
Fans are going to have to make Mega Man X9, Mega Man ZX3, and Mega Man Legends 3 at this point. Last point, The Mega Man X5 Addendum and X6 mod projrcts needs to replace the orginal games going forward. Makes the games feel and play smoother.
Make megaman a metroidvania. Nonlinear levels. Power ups like wirh rush that allow you access to special areas. Places you can't jump to yet or a wall you need to destroy. This would be a GOLD MINE. Like what konami did with castlevania. Symphony of the Night was a paradigm change.
Well we did have an Mega Man Metroidvania like game with the ZX games. But they weren't all that impressive honestly. Legends is also an Metroidvania like game and it's pretty good.
I wouldn't want BN6 since they have definitively ended that series, but a Battle Network Zero would be nice. Like, Star Force can be looked at at "Battle Network X". Much like Mega Man X did for classic Mega Man, Starforce took what Battle Network did and updated it to the standards of the DS era. So a new Battle Network would take that next step much like Mega Man Zero did to build on what Star Force gave us for an even more modern take on the series.
But make it have the same tone as the X series and make it have a actually story that doesn’t have repetitive cutscenes after a boss fight like ToTk had
What's interesting is that the answer to why Mega Man currently has no new games is apparently simple, since apparently Capcom has stated that they're still thinking about what to do with the IP and sadly, Kazuhiro Tsuchiya leaving the company might have contributed to more uncertainty as he was the current ''Mega Man guy'' there. Thing is, this also rises the question of why Capcom didn't have any foresight on what they would do with the series if MM11 was a success, specially since Mega Man's comeback was the main selling point of that game. It makes you wonder if Capcom ever had an interest on long term plans with Mega Man to begin with.
If this is the case, which makes a lot of sense, then Capcom should have considered the possibility of revival, especially for the franchise that helped them put themselves on the map.
mega man 11 is now officially the best selling mega man game of all time. i myself actually ended up buying 3 copies of mega man 11 cuz i lost my physical copy for a while and got a digital one and then my son who is 5 wanted it on his switch too. so i dont think mega man is dead at all they just need to start making more games
I played the first Mega Man at age 2 and grew up during the series' golden age. From MM1 to MMX4, the games' core gameplay remained very close to perfection, and by then the amount of MM games was already very high. I did enjoy 9, 10 and 11, but they were totally based on that perfection from the early 90s. The attempts to "innovate" with the later X series completely failed, and I doubt they want to take that risk with the regular series. It's either "more of the same" or trying to fix what's not broken, so I kinda understand why they aren't cranking out MM games. Also, it's a pretty refreshing idea that a super popular game series actually comes to an end. I hate how people just expect every franchise to go on forever, with younger people not even playing the earlier installments. I used to be a big fan of Metal Gear 1, 2 and the first three "Solid" games, but then it got out hand - now I don't even want to know how many games there are under that banner. The Zero and BN titles also kinda repeated themselves enough times already. As for Legends, I think the 2nd one was a noticeable step down, as the charm of the first one was its atmosphere and other immersive qualities. Legends 2 didn't feel like a connected world at all, just a collection of different types of "levels," and the story wasn't great, either. I don't think Legends 3 is a sure bet, it could easily be screwed up.
Platformers are hard to sell. they just need to find a format to integrate it into today. Platformers were popular in the 90s early 00s like mario/sonic. Megaman needs to evolve like those did
The thing is it did evolve and did a very VERY good job in that department. It was called Mega Man Legends. In terms of a 3D platformer, they weren't ambitious enough with X7 and that's why that one failed. And also Wonder is a really good 2D Mario game. @@slimyyetsatisfying6637
Except it does. Mario may be Mario, yeah the name sells, but it's been a long time for a proper evolution to a 2D Mario game to happen until Wonder. And look at Wonder now. @@pftmclub

Supposedly there was a Rockman Taisen or Mega Man Match leak. In the same leak there was mention of an Ace Attorney collection and Dragons Dogma 2. The Ace Attorney collection is like less than a month after release at the time of posting. And dragons dogma 2 is out. So there’s some hope but I’m not holding on at this point.
I'm just gonna be positive and say its just taking a lot of time to get a new game out. I mean personally I'm in no rush as a lot of fan projects satisfy me as far as been a megaman fan goes.
It’s unfortunately a problem with a lot of the larger third party companies. They’re only interested in gigantic AAA titles. Mega Man 11 wasn’t even a full price game, they see it as a “budget” series.
Considering the Insomniac hack, we cannot forget Rockman Taisen/Match. Also that unannounced game for next year may have been Monster Hunter Wilds, but because it got delayed, Dragon's Dogma 2 got moved to that position.
My guess is that they're trying to bring all (or at least several) of the mainline games to a form easily accessible on moderns platforms before doing anything new. Which does make some sort of sense, they're not going to make a X9 for only the 4 people who bought 19 years ago to buy, and people who aren't already fans wouldn't go through the effort to check theses games. however, if that is indeed their strategy, it would be better to alternate between collections and a new game here and there.
@@emperormegaman3856 The problem with Mega Man is that creating new ideas for powers ups is not easy. MM 4 and 5 are examples of games where some of the power ups are disliked. You know, on the topic of the Legacy Collections...I was HOPING that Capcom would make a Mega Man collection based on the semi-obscure Game Boy games...but in color! Sure, they seem like just shrunken-down ports of the NES games existing at the same time, but some of them (mainly III, IV, and V) have their own unique characters and bosses: the Mega Man Killers. Yes, I know they were going to do that in the GBA days, but since they cancelled it then, they could remake them now on a new engine for the Switch, PlayStation and Xbox! Do they not know how much money that would make them...or how many people would smile when they get to play these games in a new form?!? Heck, even Mega Man Maker cares about the Game Boy games. Maybe we can even get the fabled Mega Man VI (6) made just for a nostalgia trip?
About a year ago, some internet sleuths found that Capcom had updated placeholder domains for "Mega Man 12-15". Of course that doesn't mean 4 more Classic games will be made, it's just a standard copyright practice, but it's pretty much what's kept my hope for a new game alive. A myriad of perfect opportunities have come and gone since... Capcom presentations of anything but Mega Man, a quiet acknowledgement of Mega Man's 35th anniversary. I thought maybe it'd come once all the Battle Network Collection/XDive promotion was out of their system, nada. You make some great points, but as a jaded lifelong Mega Man fan, I'll believe it for 2024 when I see it. We'll probably just get another collection before anything new 😅
"In my restless dreams I see that game. MegaMan Legends 3. Capcom promised to take us there, but it never did. Now we're here. Waiting for Capcom." ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I'm actually pretty okay with it right now. I'm fine with the franchise goes into a hibernation because if it was revived right now it would be completely butchered, like so many IPs are now-a-days. Let it rest until they know how to make it profitable and after the current era
Why there aren't any new megaman games? It's simple. Capcom basically ran out of ideas for making megaman games. They've done everything besides a 3rd person shooting game like how Nintendo did with Metroid Prime. At this point in time i wouldn't mind if Capcom did an all Mega Man fighting game with gameplay like the Capcom vs Marvel series.
This makes me sad knowing Mega Man seems to have nothing cooking over at Capcom, another IP that had promise too and even could have been a "neighbor" series to Mega Man, Viewtiful Joe is another IP Capcom just dropped the ball on..what are these people doing??
It's pretty simple. Megaman just doesn't sell like Capcom's other games. People are always very vocal about wanting new MM games, but when a new game comes along, they withdraw to their hiding holes and there's zero hype around the game. I was a MM fan when MMX , MMZ and Battle Network were all still getting new entires, but people just didn't care. I feel like that continues to this day. They only care when they can blame a big company for not giving them something. Negativity is what keeps people happy, not new games. I'm just glad if we keep getting a new MM11 quality game every tens years or so. That's still something.
It still hurts me that they axed Legends 3 back then. I remember how excited I was when they announced it and picked up a 3DS because of it... just to get disappointed big time as they wouldn't like one of their main devs leaving the company. To me the following years in that regard felt like Nintendo with Smash Bros. and their Amiibo as well as SEGA with those Archie comics were the ones who really cared more about the series than Capcom themselves. As for Shooting Star 4... damn, would that have been an awesome story judging by the concepts they had with Subaru talking to another Hikari and stuff. Bringinng back DASH/Legends with a legacy collection would work great these days too since these days we are used to dual stick controls and those games were often criticized for its tank controls that Capcom also used to fix for those Resident Evil remakes. The guy who took the lead for MegaMan 11 sadly left the company, so who knows what happens next? I picked up X Dive Offline on Steam when it released and I sure enjoy it but it's still something else from a regular mainline game due to how levels are structured and weapons are used.
What MegaMan is lacking nowadays is innovation. Don't get me wrong. I loved MegaMan 11 . But remember back in the day when the super Nintendo came out? Capcom blew us away with MMX. Then we got to experience MegaMan's first transition to 3d with MegaMan legends. And then there's the zero series which was like MMX but different. Fast forward 2018 after the franchise had been lying dormant for years, Capcom decides that we need another MegaMan 2. Capcom should move on and do something new with the guy instead of popping out MegaMan 2 clones all over the place. At this point everybody is kinda sick of classic MegaMan tbh. We want that trademark Capcom innovation we used to see decades ago. Or even just another X game would save the day.
Even if you want to argue that the franchise isn't "dead" per say, it's become abundantly clear (especially in recent times) that mega man as a series is nowhere near as popular and influential as it was back in it's peak in the 80s and 90s. Which is a shame because mega man has a lot of potential stored in his vault but Capcom just refuses to do anything with the character. I imagine that if they attempted an animated film similar to the Mario movie they could regain a lot of the success mega man used to have back in the old days.
megaman will always live on, as long as loyal fans keep it alive and healthy. As long as you continue to keep talking about megaman, he'll always live on
I seriously wonder why tho. Like Megaman 11 and all the legacy collections have been such a modest success so far. Not a insane success boom like MH or Resident Evil that would warrant kicking Mega Man into high gear again with AAA budgets, making it 3D and whatnot, but more than enough success to warrant another new Mega Man that is just more of the same good stuff that the series is known. Like an X9, 12 or whatever else with solidly amazing level, character and boss designs with creative level themes that use clever ways to use all your sets of abilities you gain throughout while adding staples we know and love like item hunting and such, would be a dream and reflect the modest, financial success the franchise has been getting as of late. I'm not a game dev but I'm willing to bet that is not that expensive to make a Megaman game like that, at least not as expensive as Monster Hunter and Resident Evil has been getting so, yeah, idk why they haven't done or announced a new one. Like even a tease, a Capcom dev saying something like "yeah, we're still working on new Megaman projects" or something. Anything (please)
It doesn't hurt their budget either and it can MASSIVELY be their biggest profit because of how much people have been asking for more Mega Man titles. Legit if you show us a teaser of X9 and say we can pre order that same day, it would be the biggest pre order sale in Capcom's history. Look at Metroid Dread alone for that.
@@Brianycus Exactly Metroid Dread is what I was think of. Everything the series is known for, refined. Just a reaaally good Metroid game. Nothing else, and I bet it did not cost that much to make
Great video, a summary of everything i thought about the current situation of megaman. I’ve been a fan of the series since i was a kid playing megaman zx on my ds and, yeah, i love how the legacy collections gave me an opportunity to discover the games of the series i didnt have the chance to play, but we gotta move forward, we need capcom to treat megaman as his other ips, one or two games a year, if we want megaman to get his long awaited revival. Capcom surely tested the waters with the legacy collection, but now it must make the bigger step forward, actually revive in modern terms the series, continue on the path they started with megaman 11
after 6 months this video still relevant , no news about new game not even leaks or rumors all hopes and dreams are dead, what the reason that stop copcom form making a new mega man game , they are cheap and there is a solid fan base that will buy them so no money loss and mega man sells merchandise also
They don't sell anymore. If they want to make Megaman relevant again, they should re-invent the wheel for the franchise. One example is making a combination of Megaman BattleNetwork with Pokemon GO. So you play on your mobile and make your own Navi, and fight "viruses" on the streets. You could also duel other players to win a random chip from their deck or whatever. If they want to use more material, they could have players buy chips with QR code for their phones to scan and use in-game. And this is just BattleNetwork, there's a lot that can be done with the rest of the Megaman series.
Thats what I'm saying. Being him back in ways that will slowly gauge the interest back but without using the collections to do it. And they do sell, it's that Capcom doesn't push it much.
@@andrew1435 The problem with Mega Man is that creating new ideas for powers ups is not easy. MM 4 and 5 are examples of games where some of the power ups are disliked. So it's only natural that Capcom might runout of ideas for mega man. So Capcom needs to be sure if the next MM game can be as good as 11, before they make it.
@@orangeslash1667 I don't disagree. However, you would think we would hear something about the development of a new game. Mega Man games are exactly AAA games and it has been 5 years since we got a new game (no, I don't count compilations). All you hear about is they are thinking about it or whatever. No actual progress.
A little late to the party here, but X and Zero are two of my personal heroes in the terms of what they fight for and their ideals, each of them having their own strengths and weaknesses as characters that I really like. So yes, the fact that this franchise hasn't been given more love is deeply disappointing to me. I know all of us who hold those two in high regard are hurting with me.
I'm rather surprised Capcom never released a Mega Man Maker... I know they somewhat did with the extra mode in Megaman Powered Up, teased the expanded idea with the cancelled Megaman Universe, and fans took it upon themselves to create a Maker game.
I mean to be fair they did release .EXE collection and went to the trouble to make xDive into a fully playable offline game. So he's not totally dead. They need to do a Legends Collection *with updated controls for legends 1* with Legends 3 to follow it.
If there’s a new x game, it should be Mega Man X: The Elf War. Honestly would be amazing to see just how intense this war was and the fate of humans and reploids
@@Brianycus LITERALLLY!!! Capcom has a huge gap of lore to fill there and honestly, it would be cool! To see the original x design for 22XX and seeing a cutscene of zeros awakening and resealing, the destruction, the final strike, X and Zero taking down Omega and X sealing himself to contain the dark elf, ALL OF IT
One thing I've learnt from beloved franchises continuing too long is that it's never good. I've learnt that from dragon ball, street fighter, guilty gear and mortal kombat. Megaman franchises has a properly written lore and conclusion, at least till the zero series. The only thing it lacked was a proper link between the classic, x and zero series. Best to leave it that way because if they tried to revive it in this toxic age, they'd 100% have their own agendas and ruin it. They'd try to be too clever and retcon established stories, add overpowered spotlight hog characters of their own creations like a 12 year old fan fic writer, or at any rate try to appeal to todays generation whos tastes are never good. Best to leave it be.
They dont relaize if they made a 3d battle network game either completely rebooting or doing a BN7 that thing would sell like crazy with proper promotion.
Adding to what I said before, I wanna add this thought: When a thing is over, it gets to live on in the realm of memory, where it is pure and uncorruptable. Inevitably, whenever a franchise is kept going for too long, people start to feel a malaise. Let me ask you: does anyone genuinely get excited when they announce a new Scooby Doo direct to video movie? And here on RU-vid I've seen videos complaining that the Angry Nerd has become a passionless money-mill.... ..... But if Capcom did indeed make more Mega Man games, what makes you think it wouldn't suffer that exact fate?
Except Mega Man *isn't* over. It has not given a proper conclusion to any of its series. The only one that has done that is Mega Man Zero with 4 games concluding Zero's story. Mega Man 11 hasn't done that and it's been 5 years since then. Mega Man X8 was in 2004 and we still don't know what happened to Axl or how the X series ties itself with the Elf Wars in Zero properly. ZX3 was cancelled and so was Legends. And trust me: Mega Man is not going to suffer that fate. Otherwise it would've have been doing that for years already.
@@Brianycus I'm not really convinced by this argument. Thing is, with any corporate franchise, they "end" when the company just decides to stop making more. Its been that way forever. Jonny Quest never did get to kill Dr. Zin, Captain America will always be fighting the Red Skull, He-Man never has a final battle with Skeletor (unless you want to count the 1986 live-action movie and even THAT ends with Skeletor emerging and saying "I'll be back"), the Smurfs are still dealing with Gargamel... .... Megaman occupies this exact sort of tradition. Unsatisfying as it might be, "it ended because Capcom never made another one" is likely the only "conclusion" you're ever gonna get. At least, officially. There's plenty of fanworks (including at least one fangame I know of) which actually do follow up on hints and implications Capcom laid out over the years and actually advance/conclude some of the storylines. And frankly, Capcom's own writers are kind of terrible, and have a lot of Marvel or DC Comics-ish tendencies (most notably a bad habit of introducing an idea, acting like its gonna be significant, only to totally abandon it) so I'm all the way okay with Megaman's legacy being carried on by fangames and the like.
As much as I love Mega Man, we can safely say the series is done since it doesn't sell not nearly as much as the current main franchises. It is certainly a token of the company's history, but even though it's "dead", it still lives through many other games: using the skills/weapons of your enemies is nowadays a recurrent thing basically anywhere, and for that alone, I'm more than glad. The community also breathes life into the franchise, and in much better ways than Capcom has done lately.
Its only been 5 years, since the release of Mega Man 11. 10 year development times is the new normal. It has been for awhile now. Look at the releases for Ghost n' Goblins. Thats been roughly a 10 year cycle of releases between them.
Can you imagine the potential or megaman? 3d platformer for legends could benifit from the dmc5 devs or even monster wilds possible open world. I would love dmc gameplay playing as zero since the dudes essentially a dante with his learning system. X could benifit from monster hunter with learning attack patterns and knowing enemies weakness in what area of the body to attack.
The problem with Megaman titles as they are being made now is that each entry is lore relevant and that's what's slowing them down or got them stuck. They aren't in the mindset of throwing out 'just-for-fun' games like Battle&Chase, Soccer, or Rockboard that keep Megaman relevant while buying time for the mainline titles to be made. They're really stuck with how to proceed with Megaman. In particular, they're stuck with what to do with ZX3 and Legends 3 because lore-wise, they are connected. Theoretically, whatever system Trigger has to fight in Legends 3 is the same System Vent/Aile and Ashe/Grey will be trying to stop (but fail) in ZX3. Then there's the whole thing with Into Creates that I'm not too well informed about. As for Classic and X, their space for new stories is nearing a limit (timewise in-universe), this more so for Classic than X as only Zero can/must be removed as a plot point to connect with the Zero series (that's right, at a certain point, the X games will have to only feature X and Axl). Definitely Capcom's fault for letting Megaman's relevance slip big time. We've done our part in showing our support.
Legends 3 & ZX3 have their story already written for its self, is it that hard to fill in the blanks? Just think like these modern day globalist, its not hard >.> I also have a similar feeling towards Classic & X series. Classic should make a story where ALL the robot masters have to chip in, including mega man & company, to destroy the next threat since they end up disappearing in more or less a 100 years. And the X series might be the easiest to finish, just make 2 chapters out of it...X8 made it obvious Axel might be the new villain, I say make him chapter 1 boss, and the 2nd half be the Elf Wars, which is pre-MMZ. Of course you can even squeeze 2 games out of that. Heck they can even tie the wily virus into all the stories if they really wanted to.
At this point, is it possible if some company managed to acquired Mega Man like Nintendo or Sega. Because they could do a much better job to handle his franchise than Capcom.
