I’ve only ever played 3 as a kid, but I’m planning on starting with 1 in the collection. As someone who never really bothered running from any fights in 3, I have my doubts as to whether I’ll even include the escape chip in my folder in the first place. The only thing that worries me slightly is that I’ve heard that ghost Navi bosses aren’t set location encounters, but random encounters instead.

My personal tips: 1: When starting the game, multi hit chips and thunder based chips are great. Multi hit chips are good when you are having trouble getting the timing right for counter hits, which stuns the enemy and doubles your next attack. Thunder chips also have an added effect to stun your enemy, making hard to hit enemies easier to deal with. 2: Don’t worry about getting a high rank on a boss when you first encounter it. They’ll appear as a random encounter in special areas after you beat them, so you can easily get their boss chip after you have better chips. 3: You never want more than one or two program advance combos at once since they’ll clog your folder if they don’t mess well with each other. 4: Don’t worry about grinding for money to get every upgrade early on. You’ll be swimming in zenny by the later half of the game and can come back to buy everything you wanted. 5: Don’t be afraid to use the new cheat mode when traveling the net. Random encounters proc often and it can get annoying. If you are trying to get to your next story beat or are having trouble with a puzzle, go ahead and turn it on to make it go faster.

Okay, while I'm a new player, I'm the sort to enjoy blasting things, so I've got Max Buster on, so nothing too useful for me, and I started at 1 since...well why not? I like hearing stories, and figured it would be fun enough. I do remember when I was a...younger adult(I'm old go away), watching the NT Warriors series...though I'd forgotten the name, I decided to youtube the intro. Still think the Cartoon just called 'Mega Man' has the coolest intro of them all. That's not just my nostalgia, it's a kick but intro, for all the simplicity of the lyrics. All that said, well presented info, with a lot of interesting visuals that don't have spoilers in them save maybe an enemy type or animation or two when it's appropriate to the bit you're talking about, which doesn't happen often as you're giving good, general information. Excellent work. Have a comment for Al-Gor-ithm, Praise their Ones and Zeroes, PRAISE!

A warning for compression codes in BN3. Unlike BN5 and BN6, you do not have the option of uncompressing a navi-customiser part. This is especially concerning for a few specific pieces like Sneakrun and Fish, which have a one-tile notch that is lost and actually makes them harder to place on the command line.

Pretty much you can turn it on/off anytime anywhere, when you turn it on, your megamans auto attacks will one shot all the enemies instead of just doing 1-2 damage. When I enter new areas and boss battles, I play normally, but I found it to be very convenient when exploring area's i've already been to as i dont feel like battling those same regular enemies over and over again and it gets those battles over with very quickly. Some tips from my childhood playing MMBN3 too much so it mostly applies to that game (though after playing the others most of it will also apply to every other game 1) don't get too hung up on getting the S rank against boss navi's the first time round. While it is possible to do so with luck on your side to get a fast enough time and getting knowledgeable/skilled enough to avoid all the attacks... sometimes I don't think it's even possible to get their unique chip. Yesterday I was even playing the legacy collection and doing repeated runs against Beastman trying to get a feel for the game again, eventually got the S rank... and no chip, just the standard zenny reward. And you don't even have access to Higsby's shop, so it's very likely that whatever chip folder you have, even at it's most optimal, wont have the firepower to even get S unless you roll your first turn well and get an antidamage out. Thankfully, just by exploring the net you'll find key spots in areas after story events where boss navi's appear a second time (and after a certain period of time they'll respawn after you beat them again). So you can unlock their mega chips and even better versions of them if you get a S rank or face their stronger designations (Beta, Omega etc.). Tip 2) Those defensive chips he mentioned are also really good because sometimes they are the key to consistently using the most offensive chips in the game - some of them needing objects like a block in place or a hole in the floor (Bolt and Fountain/Salamndr respective). Tip 3) In any of the games where style change is a thing you'll want to remember that you have no control over your first element, its always random, and certain style types are either impossible to get right away (Bug Style/Shadowstyle) or are very tedious (Guts Style). If your wanting guts as soon as you hit the story point where styles are unlocked and are mad enough like me you can make the playthrough slower by intentionally leaving enemies low and finishing them with the mega buster (and even then I suspect that I'll mess up and still get too many invisible points towards team or custom), you can find the point right before the style change happens and grind low level Mettaur to death, or you can do the sane thing and just wait till you know whether or not you got what you wanted... because if your looking for a certain element (which all have different pro/cons + unique charge shots) your going to grind again anyway... I'd probably advice option 3. Don't be me. Don't gamba that both of these things will align the first time and make your first return playthrough in the legacy edition or an older copy hell. Or make a first time run unenjoyable.

Probably because it's the most frustrating with the lack of map, vague directions on where to go at times, and the god forsaken invisible electric dungeon. The story was great tho and I really enjoyed being able to challenge different NPCs to Navi fights. I agree not to skip...as if you come back to it it will really be unplayable. My recommendation, buster max through it except for the boss encounters(I stubbornly powered through most of it).
@bigbadmrwolfey

As a kid I started with BN3 and I wasn’t too lost. Although seeing characters like Shun/Sean show up had me a little lost in 3’s story context. Starting with 3 or 5 or 6 would be good to not turn off newcomers, but I don’t think I could recommend it. Imagine starting with BN6 then going back to BN1, that would be disastrous. Plus aside from getting character context and plot context if you start at the beginning you can later see the vast improvements BN2 made and that BN3 fine tuned. Plus you want to build up to the apex of the series which is 6’s customization and most balanced pvp if you’re interested in that. Although be warned you can’t run from random encounters in BN1 without the Escape chip, so I can’t look down on those that use the new Buster Max and Download Special Chips (Bass) feature there. They can always turn off the Buster max during boss fights anyway for the more realistic intended challenge.

I started with Battle Network 1 and have a blast playing it, I personally wouldn't recommend starting with later entries because a series goes through a lot of improvements and when you go from 6 back to 1, you will probably miss many quality of life changes and tactical evolutions.

Got it for Christmas one year, and absolutely loved the game, even though the atrocious translations and repetitive nonsense made it unbearable to try and beat. Got BN2 from a pawn shop a few years later, loved it. Got a custom wide screen gba/NDS to play the others in the series and have never been disappointed by those

Program Advances were also limited to once a battle in Battle Network 4 as well.

Great points but I still feel like you should just do them in order to truly appreciate it , I say 1-3 us the blaster max so you can speed run through them just for story as well as the limited bass chip you can put in the game. Makes things a lot easier being that random encounters are extremely high in the earlier games . All in all play how y’all want and just enjoy the experience 😎💪🏽💯

Just a heads up, but for MMBN3, you CANNOT uncompress NaviCust programs. While this might seem trivial at first, there are actually certain programs that have more beneficial shapes, such as the Fish, OilBody, Battery and Jungle programs, which form a 2x2 square with one tile jutting out of them. The reason it's important is that if you compress them, it turns into a 2x2 square, meaning you are forced to take up 2 squares in the command line on the NaviCust, when you can fit in more programs on the command line if you aligned the uncompressed version so that the singular square is placed on the command line. If you compress those programs then it'll make certain NaviCust builds impossible without it producing unwanted bugs. (And yes, while SOME bugs are beneficial, some of them are enough of an inconvenience that you'd wanna avoid them.)

I fondly remember the NT Warrior anime and wanted to get into Megaman, but the platformers are too hard for me. I looked into battle network because I like the combat system, so I gave MMBN2 a shot, but the game is so mazey, not to mention the chip system which looks like it'll be a lot to manage later on. I couldn't continue without a guide which defeats the purpose of the game. I just felt overwhelmed and didn't want to continue. I just think Megaman games are not my thing. It's a shame, I'd really love to play a chill and casual RPG with that battle system.

I sprinted through the first one. Having played the whole series I agree that the first one just doesn't have the mechanics that became available starting in the second game. Also it's really validating to hear that 4 was the weakest entry in the series. Watching your video just got me more excited to keep playing. I'm on 2 right now, and my only gripe is that I got shield style for my first AND second style.

Styles learned are correlated to what chips you used in the battles beforehand, so you may want to use BusterMax with a folder of different chips to try to reroll

From easiest to hardest: BN2 -> BN1 -> BN6 -> BN4 -> BN5 -> BN3 (although 5 and 3 are very close, both of them are VERY hard).
@millionshadesofdarkness2165
I started with BN1 even though i heard it is absolutely garbage. I am enjoying it so far and I use max buster to shorten grinding so its been fun. The maps are extremely confusing but in a fun way since i have max buster to quickly eliminate random encounters once they start to get tedious/boring

Yeah, I'm one of those people that care about starting a series from the beginning, and playing it in the intended order, so idc what you say, I'm starting from the beginning.

3:03 MMBN3 isn't so Much a parallel version akin to Pokémon Sapphire and Ruby. Rather, its more like a version upgrade like a pokemon emerald. Same game just more features. So blue is definitely what you want to play in BN3.

You know what's funny? The first MMBN game I ever played was 6 Falzar(probably misspelled that, I didn't bother to fact check😂) I knew next to nothing about the lore of the series, including the Program Advances (or P.A. for sort). The first time I did a P.A. was a complete accident ( it was LifeSword btw), and I didn't know what was going on or what happened, I was 12 when I first played this game(I'm 29 now for context) and asking my friend from school I traded this game for didn't help. I also am a fan of the anime series(for better or worse) and seeing that my first ever P.A. in game was the same ever mentioned in the TV series really set both, the anime and game, as my favorite franchise of all time!😂👍😁

While Battle network 3 has the best story, Battle network 1 is needed for that story to properly hit. My personal recommendation would be to simply start with BN1 or try out BN6 gameplay for a boss or two then try BN1

I was lucky, the fire mmbn I played was 3 blue, one of the best. Then Falzar, a great upgrade.
