This current era is blessed because the NBA doesn't allow contact with the Hand Checking and Forearms in the back! I’m 45 now. So I grew up with Jordan. I loved the NBA I thought. When Jordan retired it became boring. I tried to watch Kobe, iverson, lebron, joker and it’s not interesting at all. I was a fan of Jordan. I couldn’t miss a game as a kid. No one could fly like him, move like him or control a game like him. He was the greatest show on earth.

You know the NBA got rid of zone defense in 1957 because they didnt like players sagging off their man and not comitting to defense. Illegial defense basically gets rid of that by forcing a player to stick to his man. And you were allowed to send double teams but it had to be once the player got the ball. But you forgetting one thing, the defense back then was more prominent. You could handcheck your guy and have a center camping in the piant without the 3 second rule. The rules have changed the game so there is less defense and faster paced offense with fewer pauses in the game. You’re most likely going to get a foul called today. The amount of 3 point shots attempted and made, the spacing and rule changes to defense and the “gather step” (an effect of AND1 and Streetball) I think are why we have so many high scoring games and crazy blowouts. In the 80s, 90s and early 00s defense was a more important part of the game and blocks could make the difference in whether you win or not. Defense has never been flashy or that exciting but great defense makes great offense look even more impressive. Also, it wasn’t about being “disrespected” when you get dunked on. The NBA needs to compete with changing attention spans. They can’t lose viewers to their phones every time there’s a pause in play. They need exciting plays to happen on both ends of the floor constantly. I'll explain to you why everyone jumps. Because before around 2008 coaches and general managers controled the league, Not players. So if you didn't jump and you didn't show effort you would be on the bench or even possibly traded. As far as the players being more skilled today you said it so you need to prove that. There's no hand checking today there's no defensive 3 seconds today. But the FG % is the same today as the 90s. And the 3 pt % is only 1.4 % higher today. So they're definitely not more skilled shooting today. If you're talking about dribbling and handles and how big men are more versatile today and can dribble and shoot from outside, thats true. But you need to understand that big men in the 90s were not paid to dribble or shoot outside they were supposed to be down in the paint.

Jordan would average much more than James Harden, he is a completely different killer comparing with harden. I know that players now are more skilled, atlethic and better shooters, but the defense now is worse. The current way of defending would fit MJ's game, with no hand checking and a lot of space, he would average 40 to 43 ppg. More free throws, more 3 point, etc

I'm not gonna say that you're necessarily wrong for thinking Lebron is the GOAT, but I do think you lack information. There are two things Lebron has over Jordan, and that is assists and playing longer. Literally everything else relative to his position Jordan was better at. And no, I'm not talking about the semantics of who had a better team or who had better competition because that shit is stupid and entirely up to interpretation and feelings. Not to mention that how good a team looks is almost entirely dependent on if they win or not, so it automatically punishes Jordan for not losing in the finals and makes his competition look worse than they actually are.

Players are more skilled today, but they have the advantage of so many rule changes. Put it this way: Take any superstar from 2024, and make them play by 80s or 90s rules. Take away their zero step, their gather step, their hezis, their eurosteps, drawing fouls by leaning in. Then on defense, add the hand check, hard fouls, big man camping in the paint. Oh, and players have to dribble on top of the ball, otherwise the dribble is a carry. This will take away any 'bag' that today's players have. They would look just like the 90s players. If you gave 90s players all of the above (gather steps, hezis, carrying, eurosteps etc)... imagine what MJ could do with all that. That's why it requires nuance to compare eras. This current era is very skilled, but the rules favor offense and entertainment. I don't mind all the athleticism, but keep in mind some of the most unathletic players are cooking the league right now (Jokic, Doncic etc). Both say it`s way easier to score in the NBA than in Europe. Just look at how much NBA players struggle in FIBA competition.

This video doesn't tell you that you were likely to see about 5 of these plays from him EVERY GAME. I'm almost sure someone has already recommended MJ best rare footage vids; I'm sure you'll find those interesting. He wasn't my fav player, but i know he was the best, and no one player before or after him has given me enough evidence to change my opinion. The fact that you repeat some of what you hear without doing your homework and knowing the history of the subject shows here; but keep an open mind and keep on learning.

It's not that players are more skilled now. It's just the NBA requires a very different skillset and due to the rules that skillset is a lot flashier and quicker. Even the types of defenses and the strategies on D were different. The physicality required players to be bigger to withstand it which in turn meant they were less agile. So someone from today who appreciates the agility and quickness has a hard time appreciating the different game and the skillsets that game required.

All done with hand checking and no defensive 3 seconds. Which makes it even more incredible.

Man, great players always make other players look stupid. See Curty did that to LeBron dribbling him, he did that to Gortat. LeBron did this to others. But you also have to admit that there is no more traffic in the paint, that defense is not a priority today, the NBA commissioner wants to change or return some rules because of ease. Today you can walk, put your hand under the ball, these things give advantages. People from the past have a different view of what a fun game is and even today those who run the game are worried, soon one team will score 200pts in a match, soon everyone will score 70pts, the defense needs to have a chance again. Sometimes the regular season feels like an All Star game. When NBA players play FIBA basketball, they can't do it the same way. They're still good, but they don't score 70pts and they can't even score 80pts in half time, because the defense is more physical and they're the same players.

I don't understand how people don't get the concept of evolution in eras. Everything that you're seeing today is built along by what Jordan was doing. He was the best of the best in his era. If he was a product of today's game, he would have access to all the history,the training and his game would be just as evolved as everyone else's. He has a drive determination and killer instinct that only a hand full of other players in the league have ever had to go along with all his skills and speed. He would do the same thing today as he did back then, he would probably just be better and quicker.

Keeping it a buck as you young fellas say. Been watching basketball for 50 years. MJ is the only player better than his highlights. He gave 110% every night and never left fans disappointed. MJ played the game when big men ruled the paint. With todays spacing and soft defense he would easily average 45. He would shoot 10 plus more free throws.

Younger fans constantly expose their lack of bball IQ. Yes in general 3-12 players on a team are more talented than in the past. But defensive rules were the equalizer. A slower player could still have a chance, less athletic players could still use their IQ. Now its just open lanes and 3 pointers, thats not basketball its a 5 on 5 3 point contest. Yes the game evolves, better is subjective. This generation is the first in my 30 years of watching basketball that is mad Jordan is the GOAT. It isn't Jordan fans(heck, there's a lot of people that hate Jordan,they still understand hes the GOAT) its LeBron fans that want to elevate him when he hasn't earned it. Double teams were allowed back then and used against Jordan. The problem was that zone defense wasn't allowed in the 90s. So if you double one player another one might be wide open. Therefore it was often a bad choice to double Jordan especially on isolation plays. The great thing about the no zone defense rule was that you could'nt just rest you ass on defense. You had to run after the guy you were guarding and follow him around the court. And players took pride in being a great defender and shutting down their opponent. Even on the playground, you might not be able to dunk from the free throw line but you could be play lockdown defense on your opponent. Teams like the Knicks were popular even though other than Patrick Ewing they were horrible on offense. But they were tough guys who were pushing and shoving and not allowing any easy baskets. And there was no such thing as loaf management back then. It was expected, especially from star players, to play with maximum effort every game on offense and defense. Anything else and you would be considered "soft". In the 90s LeBron could not have not played the way he plays today because the rules were different and he would'nt get the calls. He would have to adjust. No free lane to the basket. What is a mystery to me is that today fans are OK with flopping. In the 90s the whole stadoum would have laughed at you. I think flopping is embarassing especially for star players but maybe that's because I'm old.

The bottom line is Jordan is the blueprint for everything that most of the players are doing today even Lebron😮

MJ was not my favorite player but I was in awe of his ability to play the game of basketball. The way he played the game showed how much he loved it. He didn’t play to accumulate stats. I’m more of a MJ fan than Lebron and I like what Lebron has accomplished. Us old heads were told he was the King. We gave him a chance to show us and well…when he left Cleveland the first time and took his talents to Miami some of us old heads knew what that pick up and go play with another elite player. MJ never did that and neither did the other superstars in MJs era or even before MJ. If he had stayed in Cleveland without leaving, then I truly believe Lebrons legacy would be solidified above MJs

I think that the players in today's era have better ball handling skills, overall, than in previous eras. They also have a much larger number of skilled outside shooters. I don't think that they are more skilled defensively at all. Most of the people who played defense against MJ were just exhausted and usually gave up at some point. I don't even like MJ. He is a huge dick. However, outside of debates over records, legacy, skill, etc., which i think you can bend either way, what MJ did that still distinguishes him is that he hit hard every time he was on the court. The statement in the highlights that it think encapsulates him as a player is "I do not play conservatively, I am an all out player." It was true weather he was preforming at his best or his worse offensively he was putting the hustle in and picking it up on the defense. He was an artist, creative, and technically skilled. His lay package was crazy. He took pride in finding new ways to challenge himself. I think it is silly to assume that MJ wouldn't easily adapt and integrate outside shooting into his skill set. Getting to the basket was one of the ways he challenged himself. Hey never wanted to find himself leaning on his outside shot. I think LeBron is amazing, but seeing him play has never been as electrifying for me. He is just not as all out. I think people who talk try to diminish what he does by saying he's lazy clearly has never had to carry a whole team on their back on top of exerting the energy necessary to carry his 250lb body around the court. Yes, he has to preserve his energy, that is just smart not lazy. With that said: You spending the whole video complaining is super obnoxious, my friend. The way you say MJ fans are unbearable, I agree, but fans like you are pretty unbearable as well, lol. First understand that what you watched on this highlight film was every game!!! Jordan played every game this way and always did something that made your jaw drop!!! Ask anybody who has actually seen him play and not just RU-vid…also understand that you say it was less competition in that era when 75 percent of the hall of fame is from that era…instead of saying g the competition was bad and less skilled did you ever consider that jordan was simply just that good?? So good that he made professional basketball players seem as if they didn’t belong in the league!!!!
