I think Michter's makes the best Ryes of all the distilleries. That Toasted Rye might be my favorite overall whiskey in general. Thanks for putting out the great content.
You guys are simply the best…. By far the best whiskey channel on RU-vid by a long stretch, simply brilliant! Just wish I could get at least 10 of your recommendations over here in Oman
Heading to Louisville and I have a Michter's tour scheduled - so looking forward to it. This is a good primer as you get the four standards on the normal tour.
I had Michter's Barrel Strength Rye once at a bar and loved it. Never seen it at a store, so honestly didn't know MSRP for that is over $100. I'll just stick to Rare Breed Rye for a higher proof rye that I absolutely love.
For those who want a similar experience to the 2021 Michters 10 year rye I swear Sagamore Double Oak is within spitting distance, only a little sweeter. I say that as someone who's had them side by side. Would be interested if anyone else has had that same experience.
I just picked up a 2024 Barrel Strength and am drinking it alongside the base single barrel, and while they are definitely related, I think there is a pretty big difference between the two. The single barrel has that light floral citrusy thing going, but the barrel strength is so much more complex. That being said. Would definitely like to see the barrel strength closer to $70. That’s supply and demand I guess.
Great video. I love Michter’s products but haven’t been able to find the 10 yr rye or the toasted rye yet. Hoping I can get one at some point or at least find a bar in my area that would offer it so I could get a pour.
oh this hurts. Of the rare ones I was only able to get the Barrel Strength Michter's Rye. I hustled to the store to get it a couple of years ago. It has been bunkered until a special occasion as it was a pain in the butt to get.
Thank you again. With me being a newbie I just can't get over the high prices. Am happy with Michter's Single Barrel Straight Rye @ $45 here in Michigan.🥃 Cheers
Thank you for this Michter's review! I am fan of Michter's (their Sour Mash and American Whiskey are my favorites). Michter's base rye offering is very nice yet lacking in the proof for my taste. Proof aside, it is very smooth and well balanced on the flavor and definitely an excellent introductory rye. I would like to see it at a lower price than the $42-49 range here in San Antonio, TX.
Data points: > Michter's Barrel Strength Rye is $130 at my store (ugh) > The regular Michter's Rye is $46 vs $27 for Bulliet Rye and $69 for Bulliet 12-YO Rye
I'd suggest trying all spirits in different glasses. Just opened the standard rye. Had it in a flat scotch glass and in a glen. The glen had the nose a bit muted. You guys didn't like the first one a little bit before this video.
I’d like to see you guys do either a Whistle Pig or Kentucky Owl distillery review…. Both are at a price point that are hard to take a chance on but I thought the Kentucky Owl 11yr was impressive along with the whistle pig 10yr. Just another thought, keep up the good work
Thank you! I am not a huge fan of the KO bourbons but as you said the ryes are pretty good! WP seems to be solid up and down the line but a bit pricey. Haven’t tried the piggy back yet though.
I just saw this video a year later, but we toured the Michter's Distillery and the Barrel Toasted Rye was the best thing we tried that day and it wasn't even close.
I may have mentioned this earlier, but a few years ago I really did not like rye whiskey, With the exception of Bulliet I avoided them. Now I look forward to trying them. Keep your mind open people, don't be afraid to come back to something.
What's your thoughts I really like the JD Barrel Strength Rye, thinking of picking up the Michter's US 1 good move. I cant find the others on your video. Cheers
@@seanthornton3475 true...I couldn't believe it when the guy I buy from asked me if I wanted a rye michter's 10, midwinter's night dram, Russel's 13 and a stagg...all for just a little above MSRP vs double or triple at other stores!!!
Bulleit is MGP, the 95/5 Kinda strange comparing Michters to a basic MGP. I suppose I might notice a similarity but not likely. I'm definitely a rye guy btw. (and wish I could get Michters at Michters Ft Nelson in Louisville for as cheap as y'all get it!) It is fun bottling your own there. So far just once, w the barrel strength bourbon. Haven't opened it through. Did you open yours? With your name on the bottle it's tempting to leave it alone. Until I get a 2nd bottle maybe.
Hey kurt, trenton and the rest of the slb crew, love ur channel, i was a die hard rum fan until u guys got me into boubon, now iam at a lil over a hundred bottles in my collection, iam a big wild turkey fan, can u review 82nd airborne bourbon please, i served in the unit for 10+ years seen it on a recent trip to indiana, wanted to try it but hesitant cause its young and i trust ur reviews, thanks for the content and u guys input
KURT - TRENTON!!! Great video!!! As soon as you said "Bulliet", I giggled a little!!! I need to try Michters, but I seem to be stuck on Rittenhouse!!! CHEERS guys!!!
Great video! I like the 10 yr Bourbon but it does not much outshine many other 10 yr bourbons that are on shelf for $35-40. But that 10 year rye is in a class by itself! The Rye is worth the over $100 price tag!
I have the Michter's Single Barrell Rye and several other Rye Whiskeys. My question to you is this. What is your take on the Barrell Seagrass? I just opened one and the proof is 120.2. It's rather smooth and it goes down very easy. Let me know what you, and Trent, think about it, please. Thank you and keep up the very informative, and funny, videos.
I absolutely love Seagrass! Keep in mind at times when a whiskey is finished in several different barrel types it may taste confusing or off putting. Seagrass nailed it with this one imo! One of my favorite old fashioned variations is .25 oz liber & co pineapple syrup and 2 oz seagrass!
I've tried both the Michter's 10 and the OF Barrel strength rye in the same day. They are not the same experience. The M10 has a level of craftsmanship that the OF lacks. Strangely I preferred the OF 100 rye over the Barrel Strength.
Totally with Trent on the price disparity. I just can’t justify 120 retail IF you can find the non age stated BS when you have Redemption 10 yr age stated Cask Strength for 80 bucks retail. The choice is easy for me, plus I love the 95/5 MGP blend.
I only know the "standard" Michter's, even that costs around €50-55 in my country, and i like it a lot. Easily my favourite medium-priced Rye whiskey. I'm not sure the older ones are even available around here.
I couldn't find a mash bill either but I did see somewhere where it said it was rye, corn, and barley. I think the Bulleit Trent mentioned is a 95/5 so I wouldn't be surprised if Michters wasn't similar.
Could you guys do a live and give the names of the bourbons you’ll test before hand so we can drink along and comment? If you have in the past I missed it.
You guys should take that Justin fellow on a pick and get him on more. He’s handsome, funny and seems like he knows a little bit. 😂😜 JK keep it up. You guys keep getting better
