AsSalamalaikum. I really enjoy MMA. I wantedto compete when I was younger. I came from a wrestling and karate background and, was inspired by the Gracie family in the 90s. I told my parents that I wanted to become a professional MMA fighter. They both yelled at me and told me to continue my medical studies. 😅 I did. I think my body thanks me for my decision. I should add that there are haram things in pursuing a medical career too (student loans, medical ethics decisions, insurance,etc.). We Muslims will just strive to do our best to avoid the haram, insha'Allah. And continually beg Allah for forgiveness. Jazak'AllahKhair Dr.Naik.

Please comment on modified martial arts like shotokan, no contact karate which limits injury, and where you score points just getting close to the face without actually punching an opponent

Would competing in MMA still be haraam if you’re competing with the intention of being the best fighter you can be for self defense purposes and to also pass that knowledge down to your children for self defense purposes as well?

For Self Defense, It is beneficial for us so I see no issue of it as haram. But as a sport its harmful agreed and causes serious health damage as well as hurting another human for money, which is worse if it is not a combat situation and the opponent is a muslim.

I also have a question that is it permissable to learn martial arts in army or special forces?

Many of the Sahaba were warriors. Warriors train and when they trained they used wooden swords in practice. This would hurt each other. They were warriors. If a person learns to fight, isn't it the same?

I completely Disagree. Boxing and MMA are in the category of practical martial arts. It means they work in real world scenario. so if they are completely haram. without practical martial arts Muslims become weak and they can be dominated by others who know these martial arts. and the sole reason that Boxing and MMA work is because we practice them in real fights against the opponent who's putting 100% of his force to counter the technics that we learnt and the more we compete the more this art evolves and stronger we become. I can accept that it is haram if someone intentionally harm his opponent when it's not necessary for example when he is down and Referee is stopping the fight or it is haram if someone continue the competition against doctor's order and do extra harm to his body . But other unintentional harms are the sacrifice of learning how to fight how to defend yourself properly and must not be prohibited.

I am boxing for 4 years. Right now when I saw this video, I found out that it' s all haram, but I am National Champion and part od National Team. My coaches have a hope in me already. Should I give up and focus on job, education, career and find another dream or not ?

Everyone makes sins, we are humans but try to keep your haram private for Allah to not expose them on the day of jugement if you don’t want to sincerely repent. What actually bothers me the most is when boxers after knock off and wining the combat say on their socials Al Hamdoullilah. All praise to Allah for knocking down someone? I just don’t get it…

With my experience in MMA and WRESTLING, is equally dangerous. you have to train hard to be able to fight with your brain and your body. Then we go back to the time in the past of the battle, those people had to fight with dangerous weapons right? Then think carefully, how can I just enter the cage or ring if I am not training? that's going to be different for me if I don't practice that sport! so I had to train really hard and I got hit more at training than at a combat. So how can they fight with dangerous weapons in the past without training hard ?? And we say, if a war come to a your country and you dont know how to fight how can you save your family?? Some will say you can train but don't do combat, but i said in the beginning that i got hurt more in training then in fight!?

Ahh, people get it wrong. The pain we get there is very temporary. The injury stays for only 2 days and it's gone. Also, it's beneficial cause it gets you fit, fast good reflexes, and technique. and there's a reason why we hit in the face, the reason is that it doesn't matter how strong are you, if you get hit in the face, you'll get knocked out. So, we boxers usually depend on techniques. May Allah Forgive me but I can't live without muay thai.

As a Muslim we have seen people for example the 10 companions who were given glad tiding of Jannah in this dunya, they had NOTHING! and we have even seen the staunch enemies of Islam given everything. Dont let your definition of success be corrupted by this world real definition is in Quran in detail..moreover, if you really wanna follow a successful and best human example of a Muslim then Prophet Muhammad (sall'Allahu alayhi wa salam) is enough to be our role model he is the best of best of best and BEST and imagine this was actually acknowledged by my creator and your creator himself SUBHANALLAH so as a muslim we dont need anyone to be our role model. Many make the argument that Music is idle talk even if the music is about Islam. None of the MMA fights are about Islam. All of the MMA fights have music when the fighters enter the octagon (even Khabib who didn't even use music about Islam). All the fights involve face hitting. The fighters don't cover their awrah. The commentators are engaging in idle talk about a fight that has no significance.

I am a muslim professional muay thai and mma fighter and I dedicated all my life to martial arts and Islam as well. If what I do it's haram than I will convert to Christianity as I think as well that Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him has done too many bad acts during his life as history teaches.

Mr Naik the next time please don't use expensive items it is also not good in Islamic way I guess , don't use apple iPad, better use some cheap one or a Samsung which is cheaper than apple
