13:50 Pretty sure it's cannon for Tsang to try to attack the Earth Real Warriors before the tournament... In the OG movie, he attempts to do so on the ship with Scorpion and Sub Zero. This movie just put all of its emphasis on that specific plot point.
I enjoyed this movie probably out of sheer wanting it to be good or maybe the opening Hanzo vs Bi-han fight just enthralled me, but after watching it a second time and listening to your reviews I agree with everything you guys said about it, Cole was a useless character and didn't need to be there. Lol BUT in the end it'll still go on my shelf.. side note the 1995 movie was better. Lol (that could just be biased nostalgia though).
Can you just find another Mortal Kombat novel and have C. B. Smith break it down, while the gentleman tear this movie apart some more? Why is it seemingly so hard to just make a decent tournament fight film out of MK?
What genuinely takes me out of this entire movie is the simple fact that they've already established 3 great storylines with the last 3 games and you can't just come in with this shit pile and expect fans to enjoy it. I would have preferred they just take MK 9, 10, and 11 and make a trilogy of movies that are just live action versions of the stories in those games. It's a great setup for a trilogy of films.
Listening to this a year later and heard Joe say “we will” when responding to Sean saying “maybe we will cover Ghostbusters 2016.” I went searching while listening and can’t find an episode on it. Say it ain’t so! From my experience the bad movies usually make the best reaction episodes!
This was just an cash grab for that production team. They pulled one over on WB with all those lame promises that they cannot deliver on. This movie was their first impression and it was awful. If they signed on for 4 movies, someone needs to be fired 😤
@@MovieDumpster completely agree always plan on putting everything you have and making the best movie you can because there's no guarantee you're ever going to get to make that sequel
Just think about how much better this is if Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon get the MK IP? Mort all Rickbat. Use all the MK characters, Roilandize them and have a deconstructionist romp through this script. Or, I guess, this is a cautionary tale about cancel culture both in and out of the movie. The movie was fine if you watched the blood festooned shit I did as a kid. You learn to fill in the blanks with better backstory or just blank it out entirely. Thanks for filling in the blanks! I think...
I did a podcast with Big Dumb Movie on this movie awhile back after it dropped, I was mixed then and I’m mixed still. Ultimately I feel like it’s a ship than can be course corrected 🤷🏻♂️
MK Shaolin Monk 2 would had been better than this movie. Like they could've made MK shaolin monk 2 about the great kung lao since MK11 made lui kang meet him.
The actor who played Coke was good 👍 he was just given 💩. They should have just stayed in the past with and followed scorpion the whole time like the animated movie that released just before this one
I liked this movie didn't love it but the Cole character was what damages it. I think the sequel will be a logical improvement because they will see what worked and didn't work in the first. Chances are Cole will be killed in the 2nd one or they will simply shift the main character over to the game characters.
