Murad, a friend from the Middle East, and a native Arabic speaker, looks at the only four references to Muhammad found in the Qur'an (Surahs 47:2; 48:29; 33:40; and 3:144), and points out how none of them refer to Muhammad at all, but most likely refer instead to 'the blessed one', who could very well be Jesus.
If this is correct, than Muslims cannot use the Qur'an to support Muhammad's existence in the 7th century, and one of the foundational pillars of Islam begins to fall.
