Munich is the only place in the world where you see someone with a surfboard and someone with skis in the same subway 😂 Doesn’t matter what time of the year
@@drakunusrcmaniac8708 Correct, way more likely. There is a small place in downtown Munich where you can surf. But nobody does it in winter! Also, noboby still going skiing in times of global warming, will use the subway, since you can't go to skiing place by subway.
@@einundsiebenziger5488 sorry, but I have regularly taken the U-Bahn to Hauptbahnhof where the trains go zu Zuspitze, Obersdorf, etc. Not in the sommer though.
I don't wanna be biased, cause I lived in Munich for more than a year, but this city is incredible. I like the vibe, the architecture, the foood and its variety, how amazingly green this city is and everything is available there! And you can't ignore the fact that the Alps are right around the corner. Of course we know about S Bahns there, not perfect, yeah the city can be chaotic too, but overall - the city is incredible, honestly, my perfect little world!
Fun fact: Munich is one of the least green cities in Germany (only rank 74 out of all 79 German large cities). It is the most dense and concreted over city in Germany, according to statistical data.
Because America thats why. In my neighborhood the driveways are maybe 35-40 feet long, yet people will pull up to their mailbox to check the mail before they pull their car into the garage. Seeing an American walk more than 5 feet is like watching a pig fly.
@@Name-kd5jj Right, I seem to forget that ^^'. I mean, I'm as unathletic as they come, but I actually wouldn't shun a nice walk like that, nor do I have a problem with running errands by bike. Nothing but fresh air and lazy motion to untangle one's thoughts and set one's mind at ease 😊
@@Name-kd5jj You know, in Germany we phrase it thus: "Es gibt kein schlechtes Wetter, nur unpassende Kleidung" (There's no bad weather, only bad weather gear) But then again, German weather is pretty much on the well-balanced midrange, we usually don't get many weather extremes (or at least we used to). ^^
@@LunaBianca1805 Oh here where i live its either hot and so humid if feels like you walked into a sauna, or cold and cloudy with very strong winds. We get about 2 weeks between summer and fall, and between winter and spring where its nice. Well sometimes we do, sometimes it switches straight from hot to cold or vice versa.
The way you can tell someone's a true Munich local: Serve Händlmaier sweet mustard with your Weißwurscht! The way you can tell they're not: Drink Weißbier from the bottle. Because the fun about Weißbier is the foam head and the "Hefe-Schock" (tiny swirl of yeast residue) you pour into the glass with the final drop of beer.
Your videos are so professional. Do you have a whole film crew around or are you a one man show in shooting and editing. Impeccable quality and narration.
As, a small town guy, I really liked Frankfurt. The skyscrapers are a beauty to look at, the city is very busy as it is an international hub for travelling. You got many bankers there as it is the financial heart of Europe. The guided tour at the airport was also amazing.
Oh my god. I was really shocked by this videos first 10 seconds. Not only did I discover the yellow building I am living in for 10 years but at a second glance there is my car parking right next to you. That really came as a surprise to me. Nice video about Munich but you have to come back. You missed that much, not only the surfers on "Eisbachwelle".
Oh well, I live in Munich, since 1991. Tell me about it! I can share a story or two … I am a bit sad that you were only fed the "touristy stuff", like the naked people tanning in the Englischer Garten, Chinesischer Turm, "bavarian breakfast" … Granted I am not a bavarian, but I've lived here for the past 28 years and I have learned that Munich is so much more and has so much more to offer. But I like that you were shown also some intricate details that are not so well known, like the "golden pathway". But there is sooooooo much more to see and experience. Maybe I should write an alternative guide to Munich. Off the beaten paths … Actually that`s a good idea. Munich from the viewpoint of a non-bavarian who has lived here for a long time.
Please do write the alternative guide! I live in Munich since 2011 and can't imagine any other cities in Germany I would want to live. I do get tired of my friends and visitors asking me to show the most common or popular tourist sites.
Well, that's the problem when visiting a city for a short amount of time. It'll be different to living there for a longer period. Always and in every "big" city
Do you know how the the street named "Viscardigasse", where the "Golden Pathway" can be seen, is called by native "Münchner"? "Drückebergergasse" (Shirker/Sneaker Vennel) due to the fact that it was used by people who wanted to avoid doing the "Hitler Greeting".
What i like about Munich is that it has the whole Day a Hollyday Atmosphere almost every corner has a beatyfull spot, and for a Big City it's very safe and harmonic
This may be one of the best videos you've ever done! Informative, beautiful shots, everything put together perfectly with great background music. Really excited to see where you're GRAND GERMAN CITY TOUR is gonna take you next. Biased personal recommendation: Regensburg, founded by the Romans, really old, small streets in the old town, lot's of (international) students and the beautiful Danube in the middle of everything.
Check out the christmas market and city of Erfurt. This is a gem even a lot of Germans don‘t know about despite being one of our most beautiful cities.
You should take Potsdam into consideration. Very close to Berlin but defo has its own vibe. Surrounded by sooo much water. Some wonderful historic sights and the uni campus at Neues Palais is so beautiful. Also filmwise the Filmpark Babelsberg has produced a lot. A last keyword: sports. ;-)
Goslar - The old town is simply breathtaking 😍 Visit on a hot summer day - awesome! On a foggy autumn day - pure middle age feeling! I would not miss both experiences. Goslar captured my heart ❤️
Regensburg is amazing as well! You should check it out, at my uni we guided the exchange students around the city and they love it too 😊 We have a cathedrale like Cologne, a pretty old stone bridge and a lot of cozy and cool places to relax at the Danube. Don't miss the Walhalla or Weltenburg! 😊
Sooooooo glad you liked my city :-). Not sure if you got the chance (since I'm sure that this footage doesn't include everything you did) but if you haven't already and if you intend to come back: come visit us on the other side of the river. Come visit Trudering, the most beautiful district in Munich (you'll think you're back in Schwäbisch Hall). You will love it. Another really beautiful city I'd recommend for your tour is Lübeck, way up in the north of Germany.
Imo Hamburg and Munich are the best cities in Germany, at least from where I’ve been, i have to say there are cities that were unexpectedly awesome, for example Schwerin. So there might be hiding some cool places
Berlin is beautyful! Hamburg too. Klar, ich komme aus Hamburg. Lübeck ist a other old City near Hamburg. Great! Have fun hear in Germany and good luck!! 🙂
Ooohhhh, welcome to my hometown, I hope you had a great time 💜 For the BMW logo. Since my dad worked his whole life at BMW I feel confident to tell you that the logo indeed has its origins in the bavarian flag (combined with the logo of Rapp Motorenwerke, which they splitted off from). Later they had an advertisement where the BMW logo was shown in the rotating propellers of an aircraft because they got a license to build certain aircraft engines. Thats how the myth was created. There you go 😅
Is Munich the best city? No it isn't. And I'm born there. It's a great city, but so is Hamburg, Cologne, Berlin etcetera. Ranking Cities by "the best" is senseless and just attracts Trolls in the Comment-Section. Enjoy the differences of each city! I would live in every one of them.
Nice Video 🤗 Your next stop should be ERFURT on winter holiday. You would love it with it’s tiny Disney like houses and the christmas market all over the central city. There is a heart warming and a cozy atmosphere.
Leipzig isn't. The citizens there showed how it is done and basically threw Legida out of the City with their constant counter demonstration. Leipzig is just cool, especially around the time of the Book Fair and the WGT.
OK, Nalf, BIG MISTAKE. Dont believe him😂 NEVER DRINK WEIßBIER OUT OF THE BOTTLE! NEVER! Its worse than drinking good wine out of the bottle. There are special Weißbierglasses for that purpose. Weißbier tastes like shit out of the bottle. Just for Information! Great video by the way. Greetings from munich.✌😊
I love Munich! I had a vacation there ten years ago, including day trips to Salzburg, Augsburg, and Oberammergau/Neuschwannstein. I loved being there, and I loved the food and the sights. And I saw some great opera. Speaking of which, "La donna e mobile" in the soundtrack of a German city tour? What's wrong with you?! :-P
I really really want to move there, so when I saw you post this, I was like; "Niiiceee" Nice video and good job capturing the Munich vibes. Just a bit disappointed that you did not eat any Haxn though ;)
I am looking forward for Nick standing on a "Deich bei ner steifen Brise". So curious how he will handle it. Btw the people who are not welcome in Munich are nordic Germs, a "Moin Moin" and the people drop their hospitality real fast. :-)
I never expierienced this. :o I love saying moin moin, even tho I'm a bavarian. It hast something happy in it, something more welcoming than bavarian greetings. :)
Actually the BMW logo is designed with three colours: 1. white 2. blue 3. black 1:white--> Stands for their purity & charming character 2:blue--> Stands for their power & reliability 3:black--> Stands for their elegance & excellence Myth 1 dissolved: It has nothing to do with the aircraft engine fabric one of the founders had before. Myth 2 dissolved: In the years of the companys founding it wasn't allowed to display political/national symbols/colours on your logo.
Come to Hamburg! Its officially called the most beautiful city in the world 😉 And as the second biggest city in Germany it’s a must-see in your citytour!
According to my tastes and as far as the biggest cities are concerned, Munich and Hamburg are way up there, and pretty much on the same level. If you live in either city and you had to move, the respective other would probably be many people's preferred option (with Hamburg sometimes seen as the Munich of the North and Munich sometimes seen as the Hamburg of the South). Hamburg also has its own Englischer Garten, the "Planten un Blomen" park. As mentioned in the video, Munich is sometimes called Germany's largest Dorf (village), alluding to its supposedly more provincial/rural rather than urban vibes, which is also where stereotypes about Bavaria as a whole play into. However, I do like that it's by far the cleanest German Großstadt, and if that largest-village saying is true (which I'm not sure it is), I'd take it as a compliment. The downside, though, is the fact that Munich can ever only really grow outwards, not upwards, which severely limits the living space available, so that's simultaneously Munich's greatest hazard, gradually making it unaffordable.
Trier was officially founded as a city by the romans in 16 before Christ. So it celebrated its 2000 birthday in 1984. But even before it became a city people had been living at that location for thousands of years. So it is very officially the oldest city that Germany has. Personally I find the Porta Nigra way more impressive than the Brandenburg Gate. The difference between the 2 is about 1800 years of history.
You are right - the cities a pretty different. And Munich is really nice (BTW: Great and affordable hotel: Hotel One Deutsches Museum ). But my favorite city in Germany is Hamburg - you definitely have to see it :)
You got it right mate... Munich is simply THE BEST CITY in the world... It offers true German/ Bavarian flavour. Far better than London or Paris or Sydney. The city is just like perfection at it's peak. I'd suggest you to take the BMW factory n museum tour. You will fall in love with Munich once again. So much to learn some life lessons.... Loved this video mate...
Uuuh. Largest Building in Germany: "Tropical Islands Resort is a tropical theme park located in the former Brand-Briesen Airfield in Halbe, municipality in the district of Dahme-Spreewald in Brandenburg, Germany, 50 kilometres from the southern boundary of Berlin. It is housed in a former airship hangar (known as the Aerium), the biggest free-standing hall in the world. The hall belonged to the company Cargolifter until its insolvency in 2002."
The blue & white flag of Bavaria you were wondering about is that way because it's supposed to represent Bavaria's vast, blue & white sky. The design has two official patterns because it actually was depicted in both styles throughout its history so they've kept them both, an oddity to the other state flags in Germany. I'm a tour guide in the city but never read anything about helicopter patterns playing any role in them. But who knows I could be wrong, I discover more about the city every day I'm here!
Some commented that this aren't RU-vid videos anymore but professional short films. I agree with that. Your editing skills, choice of music, picture capturing and story telling were already fantastic and really stood out among most RU-vidrs ... but with this you reached a new hight. Especially the music-to-picture matching in this video was especially noteworthy. Let it put it that way: I''m not interessted in any sports at all, but I can't wait to see your documentary about the unicorns. ;) And regarding to your question which city to visit: Lübeck should be high on your list - but in summer only. First of all, because of the weather. Second: Lübeck is really close to the baltic sea and there are nice beaches (with "Strandkörbe") close by. There is nothing more refreshing after a long day of walking a city then a swim in the sea.
Hahaha Ive been waiting for you to do a episode on München, ive lived here for 5 years and work as a studio drummer for Century Media Records out of Dortmund. Love your videos bro keep it up 🤜
Faaakking perfection NALF!!! I don’t know how you do it but somehow manage to leave me in awe with your videos! They feel genuine and I can vicariously live through them. Every time man, you just make it a masterpiece, absolutely amazing!
Best german city is Hamburg. Hamburg is the most beautiful city of the world. You should visit Northern Germany. I can recommend Oldenburg and the region of East Frisia. It is totally different than Southern Germany.
Awesome series, but you have to visit the cities in summer or at least spring. Otherwise you will lose out how they feel in the most important seasons, with going out weather. Munich for example, biergarten in the summer is so full. Not comparible to autumn.
I know it‘s not Germany but come visit Salzburg! I think you’ll love it here. And if you get the chance, visit the Salzburger Christkindlmarkt (christmas market) at the end of november - december. It‘s one of a kind :)
As a Munich native I agree. When thick snow falls, this is the best place to be. Salzburg is beautiful. Maybe I move there if Job situation permits it. Mum is Austrian, so often I can’t decide where it’s better 😁
Hello Nalf. I live near Bavaria and i asked myself, if ever somebody told you, that you look so much like a bavarian !? Inside of Germany, Bavaria is probably the most secure state, has the best school system and the best football team and a quite clean environment ... and its neighbour "Austria" is somehow a kind of a better Bavaria :-)
Munich or "Minga," one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Filled to the brim with art and then...Then an American came along on an e-scooter (the season is over, he's back on wheels - but better stay away from old ladies) with his version of art. He complains about everything, doesn't do anything right, and then manages to get the poor, really cool surfer dudes on the Eisbach to flee. Well servus. Frowning Nalfi for that, but laughing Nalfi for Munich and your video.
Sally Anderson she didn’t confirm it, but she didn’t deny it either. As always, our little firecracker keeps information in limbo mode. She’d make a mean politician. Maybe she can solve the Brexit issue. MILLS for PM!
You should definitely check out Aachen when you come to Cologne. Cologne is a dump but Aachen is amazing. It borders Belgium and The Netherlands, has a beautiful old city and is built on Roman Ruins.
That was not BWM headquarters. BMW Headquarter is the "Vierzylinder", a building looking like a four cylinder engine, and the BMW logo is indead the aircraft propeller as you mentioned (because of BMW initially building aircraft engines) and not a helicopter rotor.
And it isn't even the largest Building in Germany. That one goes to.... "Tropical Islands Resort is a tropical theme park located in the former Brand-Briesen Airfield in Halbe, municipality in the district of Dahme-Spreewald in Brandenburg, Germany, 50 kilometres from the southern boundary of Berlin.[1] It is housed in a former airship hangar (known as the Aerium), the biggest free-standing hall in the world. The hall belonged to the company Cargolifter until its insolvency in 2002."
I highly recommend: Wernigerode, Erfurt, Würzburg, Treier, Bamberg, Görlitz, Dresden, Freiburg, Mainz and my home town Mannheim, the only city in the world where the downtown streets have no names, but rather chessboard square designations like F3 or P4. It was my birthplace (dad a US soldier) and where I have lived the last 42+ years.
Yeah, i've never actually tried this doner here in Berlin(Mustafa is originally from here). Every time i pass it there is a huge line. And i can't justify waiting in line for 40 min to buy a doner. And people say it's not even the best. I've tried lots of other ones and they are good.
Ne Leberkässemmel wäre schneller gegangen. Außerdem kommt Mustafas Döner aus Berlin, das braucht man wirklich nicht als place to go in München verkaufen.
Congrats man you've found the greatest city in Germany. Don't think you'll change your mind but maybe im biased 🤷♂️ Just look at my profile pic. Taken on Ludwigsstraße behind me is the Siegestor and I'm looking towards Odeonsplatz. I just love Munich.
I lived in Munich for a year. There simply is no other city like it. You will find all kinds of people from real Bavarians to Germans from all other regions of Germany to foreigners from everywhere. Salaries are very high but so are the living costs. There is no other more desirable city to live in anywhere in Germany. This is where they all flock to. The cultural offerings from music, art, theater, and comedy to very delicious food and drink are immense. Let's not forget the best soccer team in Germany. We saw some of the parks in this video. But all this comes at a price, the highest prices in Germany. Gentrification is a problem. Some older people on fixed incomes, ones who have lived all their lives in Munich, now have to line up for free food from food pantries. That is the flip side of being the most desirable city in Germany. I lived for six years in another town in Germany. It only had about 27,000 inhabitants but it also had a famous old theater that offered a full slate of opera, symphony, ballet, and dramatic performances. It lies in a river valley, surrounded by low, heavily forested mountains with countless signed hiking paths leading to many hidden castles and castle ruins. The food is very reminiscent of Bavaria with a regional bratwurst, pork cutlets and potato dumplings being the best known. There are several small town breweries nearby and one of the most famous white wine regions of Germany is next door. The theater is the biggest employer in the town. That tells you there is not much employment here. Salaries and rents are some of the lowest in Germany. Except for some of the actors and ballet dancers at the theater, I was just about the only foreigner in town. Everyone was curious to meet the "American." I felt like a celebrity. No, I am not telling you where this town is.
Great quality video! I'm impressed 🙌 As a Canadian moving in 2 months to South Germany for good, your channel has been very interresting and fun to watch. Gives a better idea of what to expect! I would recommend visiting Baden-Baden! on that tschüss 🍻 looking forward to see your next video!
Did you really use an e-Scooter while drinking or after drinking beer? You know you can loose your license for that, right? That’s basically drunk driving if you’re over the limit because these vehicles count as normal street vehicles.
Please visit Leipzig:) Very interesting historical city. I really like your videos and the way you talk about the German way of life. Maybye you would like it:)
Hi, I am from Germany and found your stuff by chance and I was first wondered about the very good quality of the movies you made. With that I mean the quality of the pictures, how you set in the camera, the copter the sound and so on. First I thought there must been a camera team behind the scene, but it seems to be, that it is just you. In addition what you are reporting about germany is mostly true and gives other people a great look to us and our tradition. I wish you best luck and hope you keep going on.....Best regards, Timo
I personally can never decide whether Munich or Hamburg is my favourite city in Germany, both very beautiful when it comes to architecture and landscape, but also very different! Munich got the Alps, the castles and colorful buildings, Hamburg got the lakes, the huge river and the sea, the harbour (so water basically) and consisits of classicism/juvenile facades, brick stone and bridges. When you are in Hamburg don't forget to have a walk around the Alster lake with all its grand mansions! In the end I think the weather speaks for Munich, while on the other hand Hamburg is more exciting with all its different quarters and night life (Reeperbahn and its surroundings is one of a kind in Germany and probably all over Europe). Can't wait to see your impressions from Hamburg!
The blue and white of the BMW roundel is maybe from the Bavaria flag. Historically there is a red and white version. But it's definitely a propeller (airplane, not helicopter).
Yeah NALF if Smoke says it´s a 5 minute walk he means the "go-time" without any deduction (Netto-Gehzeit)...but you have to consider that the whole earth is also spinning away from you all too which you then have to add for the actual walking time... (that´s what I´ve always got told as a kid by my parents making fun of me when I started complaining about any long time to walk)
Haven't you football players ever heard of the Time Theory of Relativity? How much time a walk takes is relative to how much alcohol you have been drinking.
I actually think it is. I moved here like 10 months ago and i love it. I would even say that it's the best one in Europe. But it's not for everybody i have to admit.
Objection! Munich is the least stereotypical city in Germany from a german point of view. LOL Munich is very cute. The world's biggest village. However, the coolest city in Germany by far is Berlin. No doubt about that
