Years ago, I helped the township of Sierra Vista, AZ develop its municipal composting system (via a grant to the UofA). They took treated sewage sludge, city park trimmings, and restaurant waste, put it all through a grinder, then into huge hedgerows. Those got steaming hot and were turned on a weekly basis. The resulting compost was then recycled to the parks and some of it was bagged and sold. We never fed it molasses but I do wonder if things like pharmaceuticals really broke down. Hmm... so much science still needs to be done. But, we'll try our best, make mistakes, and hopefully learn from them. Thank you for being on the leading edge of this next scientific/ wholistic revolution.

I will never import municipal "compost" again. I did that last year - got some "free compost for town residents" - composted local yard waste. Spent a full day loading and hauling it to the house, finished spreading it just after the sun was going down and a light rain was falling.. Came out the around sunrise the next morning - beautiful dew drops glistening in the morning sun! A beautiful sight from the back door. Except that is wasn't dew drops. The "compost" was full of broken glass - like thick, aquarium glass that the rain had uncovered. I can't speak of the possible pathogens, but for the rest of my life, I will never be able to walk barefoot in my garden again. Sure, it's anecdotal, but check things out carefully. I will regret not doing so for life.

Finding good clean compost can be a challenge if you are looking to buy some. I have search all over my state, MI, and found 1 decent place to get it. Unfortunately its a 2hr drive from me. I did find a place much closer for vermicompost, but im not sure how good it is. And its $700 for a qubic yard.😵
